Bill Nye is a mechanical engineer, science educator and CEO of the Planetary Society, who hosted the Emmy award-winning show "Bill Nye the Science Guy." After a widely viewed debate in Kentucky with an avowed Bible literalist, Nye has written a primer on the fundamentals of evolution. Nye agrees that "people everywhere must be free to believe whatever they wish, but we cannot deny our students a basic science education. In the 21st century, we need to keep the United States competitive on the world stage," he says, "and to insist that creationism has a place in the science classroom is harmful not only to our kids, but to the greater world as well." Watch this lively discussion, moderated by Emmy-winning journalist Tom Foreman.

+Fordatude Fordatude Brainwashed? Really, Brainwashed. Atheists, we have come to a conclusion based on Evidence and our own thinking. Creationist's, you have been taught one thing and only one thing. Told your religion is the only one that is true out of hundreds, while the stuff in the Bible is completely idiotic. So you are the one who has been brainwashed.

+Fordatude Fordatude I can back up the FACT of how old the earth is through tests. Creationists say "oh well you weren't there", yes, I wasn't but you were not there when the Bible was written. You just accept that it is fact because people have told you it is. People have told me what I know to be fact but there is evidence, calculations, and tests that go along with it. The Bible was written thousands of years ago. Tons of things in the Bible can be proven wrong. So if you believe the earth is actually 6000 years old as taught by creationists, that is just silly. How do you think a dinosaur would be able to fossilize in that time or any other fossilized creature for that matter. If a fossil could form in a couple thousand years we would find human fossils not just bones. We wouldn't have light coming to us that is thousands of light years away. There wouldn't be trees older than what the earth is supposed to be. There wouldn't be hundreds of thousands of snow ice showing summer winter cycles in the Arctic. We are not special beings, there could be life just like us somewhere else. I'm not saying there is life in other parts of the universe but thinking that we are the only life is like filling a cup with ocean water and saying you don't see any whales. The universe is just to enormous to come to the conclusion we are alone.

+Fordatude Fordatude So from my reasoning I bet there is nothing I can say to change your mind. Like there is nothing you can say that would change my mind. I was raised as a Catholic, attended Catholic school and still attend a Catholic Highschool (souly because its one of the only ones in my area and my friends are all there). So what I'm saying is I have had Christianity all around me for all my life and I am still an Evolutionist, so an Atheist. And it's really quite interesting how my very religious school teaches Evolution and all of it because we believe it to be true. But they also teach the religion like it is true and they just don't mix. Also, I think it's pretty funny that the Pope Francis believes in the Big Bang and Evolution.

I can attest to 14:00 where he talks about pesticides. If you use only one kind of pesticide, you run the risk (higher the longer you use it), that you will inadvertently select resistance in the pest to the pesticide you are applying.

@@mnomadvfx By "kind," I should have specified "group," which is reference to their mode of action. Ie: 2,4-D and Glyphosate will both kill dandelions, but the first in Group 4 is an artificial growth hormone (makes the cells grow berserk, disrupting the plant structure and exhausting their metabolism), and the second in Group 9 is an amino inhibitor, which stops cell reproduction by stopping DNA from splitting and reforming. If that patch of dandelions ends up breeding a resistance to 2,4-D, it's not likely to also develop a resistance to Glyphosate as well, because they're two completely different modes of action. This is assuming that the dandelions are in a flower bed or something. Don't use Glyphosate on your lawn unless you want to kill the grass.

There are many scientist who are believers in God, you don't have to believe in evolution to be intellectual. Science helps connect Gods word to Gods world, history, archaeology, and science confirm Gods word and supports it. Creationism is not science. Science involves putting forward an idea (called a hypothesis) which postulates a cause with an effect. It then amasses evidence and objectively assesses that evidence to see whether it supports the hypothesis or not. If it does, the hypothesis is used to make a prediction which can be further tested. If not, the hypothesis is either rejected or amended for further testing. The key word in all of this is objective. Creationism involves beliefs which are subjective. What is worse, it bowdlerises the scientific method by only looking for evidence that supports its beliefs and ignoring or supressing that which does not. In addition, its supporters continually point to facts for which science (as yet) has no answers as 'proof' of the validity of their ideas. Science does not pretend to have answers for everything. It is an evolving, learning and adaptable way of looking at the universe. That is why it has been so successful over the last three hundred years. The old saying, 'absence of evidence is not evidence of absence' is true up to a point but absence of evidence is not proof of presence.

Evolution teaching that man came from a single cell evolving during hundreds of thousands of years is not a science. It is system of beliefs. You cannot have an hypothesis of how things were hundreds of thousands years ago, neither one has the ability to test it to see how it will change thousands of years later so as to determine the validity of the hypothesis.

To begin with, bacteria are different to animal cells. In fact bacteria could be said to represent a partial precursor to animal cells as the so called power plants of animal cells called 'mitochondria' are extremely similar to the genetic structures found in bacterial cells. So yes to answer your question bacteria also follow a process of mutation in evolution and natural selection - albeit their timescales are much accelerated due to the simplicity of bacteria vs most animal organisms.

Flying over the Nazca Pampas in Peru 2001 Dr Dennis Swift had enlisted the ace pilot Eduardo Herron to fly him over the Nazca Lines. After viewing all the well-known geoglyphs on the Nazca Pampa we headed up north to Rio Palpa Nazca which had not being fully investigated for geoglyphs. We went on an observation mission to locate new geoglyphs that resembled dinosaurs. We had just exited a canyon when Eduardo pointed, “There they are the dinosaur geoglyphs. There was a faint outline of two dinosaur-like creatures spanning some 100 meters each. As we flew over the crest of a mountain Dr Dennis Swift said unto Eduardo, what is the figure below? He replied where Senior Dennis? There below the crest of the hill to your right. Eduardo said Dennis you have made a new discovery. We shall call it the Dennis dinosaur. The figure was at least 80 meters long with a huge dinosaurian head and the beginning of a bulging body. The shadow of the plane in comparison to the figure made it look like a tiny insect in a large dark crevice. Eduardo was so ecstatic about the discovery, that it defied description. It was there right in your face, undeniable evidence that the indigenous Indians carved these on the Nazca Pampa. The Head Peruvian archaeologist, Alberto Orbabo Jacinto in charge of the Pampa and Nazca Lines, agreed that they definitely looked like dinosaurs. Alberto was interviewed by a National Geographic crew the next day. He concluded we have a new theory: the “Dennis Theory”-that dinosaurs were drawn on the desert by the ancient Nazcans. Alberto believed himself that the Nazcans must have seen dinosaurs, because the figures on the pampa were animals that the ancient Nazcans were familiar with. We now have incredible evidence that supports the ICA Stones and the Moche vases with dinosaurs depicted upon them. When you have evidence like this dating back a thousand years or two you realise that dating methods for the age of the rocks and dinosaurs are inaccurate and that all dating methods no matter how new they are, or how accurate evolutionary scientists claim they are is non-sense. All dating methods are subject to contamination and therefore limitation because we live in an open system, not a controlled laboratory condition. For example: regarding lead-uranium. You can have two rocks taken out of the ground in reasonable proximity to each other; one will have more lead in it than the other, so they will date differently to each other age-wise. Uranium decays into lead but there can be other elements in the rocks that have produced lead without leaving any evidence that they were actually there in the first place. So we have different components of Parent/Daughter elements. Potassium- Argon is also affected by the environment every time it rains. Products can be washed in and out of radioactive rocks. Remember I do these posts for the sheep not for the goats as they will always head-butt, no matter what is put before them which contradicts Darwinian Evolutionary Religion.

IMHO teaching starts in the home. If a childs parents are ignorant, or worse someone like Ham then the child will never really get anywhere in school, let alone excel. This is why there are so many Asian students that do so well in school, university and later get into great technical professions. ie their parents engage with them very early, set goals and actually expect their children to hit them. Expect nothing - get nothing. It sounds harsh, but the numbers don't lie.

Ima break this down to the basics... A refrigerator for example is complex, it needs many components in place to function correctly, it is a very complex invention. Everybody agrees that it took a man to invent it, nobody waited around hoping for it to evolve because that's impossible, the refrigerator is too complex to be made without an inventor that has intelligence. It absolutely needs a creator and without one no doubt the refrigerator would have never been a thing. Yet we humans are billions of times more complex than a refrigerator but we don't need a inventor that has intelligence? Ya see, none can unbiasely deny that I'm making sense. But if you hate god you will reject this logic, but if you are truly searching for what's the truth then it makes sense doesn't it?

Like when they are asked flat out if they believe such obviously manufactured mythology. Like the journalist debating Dawkins (at Oxford or Cambridge ) who admitted he really believes that Mohammed flew to heaven on white horse. That's right up there with the Catholic doctrine of TRANSUBSTANTIATION, where communion wafer really turns into the flesh of Jesus. Anybody who has ever taken communion knows this is not true. It just isn't. So what is the point in the Catholic Church trying to tell people it is true? I've said it once before and I will say it again and again. Religious texts are proof that religion is made up by humans. There may well be a god. Or many gods. But religions are invented by people, not revealed by gods. If it was gods, the stories would be better! Live long and prosper

This is purely and utterly false. I understand people who deny science can struggle with facts such allow me to spell this one out for you. Bill Nye has a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bill Nye has a lifetime of work in this field. Mechanical Engineering is the application of engineering, physics and materials. The definition of a scientist is one whom studies or has expert knowledge in a field of Natural or Physical sciences. Scientist then fall under another subsection to help define where they lie in the spectrum. That of a pure scientist, one whom primarily attempts to find new possibilities and explanations without regard to the practical applications. You then have an applied scientist, one whom uses existing scientific knowledge and then applies it to the real world in an attempt to invent and create. There is of course overlap between the two depending on what you are specifically doing, however this is true of everything. For example through the application of existing knowledge to a real world invention, you can in turn end up discovering new behavior within a system and thereby find a new theory., which in turn may lead to you as a scientist looping round initially into pure science before then moving back to applied science once you know how to apply this new idea. Mechanical Engineering is a form of Applied Science. Therefore Bill Nye is in fact a scientist. Is that broken down simple enough?

In theory you could for sure. Then again you can believe in god and molest children. The shit storm of Catholic priests across the world uncovered by the Spotlight story case in point So not exactly a helpful mindset to use that as an excuse for anything. Likewise even a great scientist can do truly terrible things. The scientist Haber who invented a process to produce massive quantities of ammonia fertilizer stopped Europe from starving when out of control population growth was threatening to exhaust the capacity of Europes farming resources to feed the region. Sadly when WW1 happened he helped the Germans to develop mustard gas, a poison which killed countless people before masks were developed as a countermeasure. Then Einstein whose theories on atomic energy led to the Manhatten Project, not to mention secretly giving technical aid to it creating the first atomic bomb - and we all know how that turned out. Neither science nor religion is fundamentally bad. Science is only concerned with knowledge, which in turn creates things for good, or bad. BUT.... good science requires that a persons beliefs be able to change to reflect the data if it disproves something science had once posited to be correct Religion on the other hand is concerned with narrow dogma - to go against this dogma can often be met with negative attitudes or violence whether you belong to that religion or not. This is not something you see in science - at least not for any scientist with all their marbles intact.

If you can make a 3d printer that works on the atomic scale faster than the best scientists in the world then be my guest. Such material science is possible but extremely complex - not least of which because compounds do not magically just form when you bring the right atoms together, it often requires energy to bind them and doing that without disturbing the surrounding molecules is insanely complex to manage. Evolution has engineered organisms over hundreds of millions of years that can do exactly this using set blueprints (aka DNA or RNA), but harnessing this cellular machinery to achieve the same effects is simply decades out. Once we can do this kind of thing we could have artificial immune systems generating antibodies to viral/bacterial infections from no more than a downloaded blueprint of a molecule - or generating new limbs on spec from inside the body rather than relying on transplants that are bound to be rejected.

There are 3 things that drive evolution: 1. The fact that genes that dictate organism's traits or characteristics are inherited(heredity) 2. Random mutation 3. Natural selection Evidence for #1 You could see it by yourself that one obviously does inherit biological traits from one's parent. Skin colour, hair, eye colour, diseases, etc.. that's why we look a lot like our parent. Evidence for #2 Cancer cell is one of the example of random mutation that is not benefitting the organism, random mutation sometimes could bring benefits and sometimes could bring diseases. When the mutation occurs on the sperm or egg that are going to be an embryo or baby, then the mutation become inherited.. that's why we are always recommended to protect our genitals from any kind of mutagents like ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Evidence for #3 Superbugs are one of the evidence for natural selection.. as we use the antibiotics often and frequently, the bacteria become adapted to the drugs in a way that the bacteria who can't outstand the drugs died, while some of the "mutant" bacteria who can outstand the drugs survive better and inherit their genes better that their population starts to grow much much bigger than before. Another evidence is the human skin colour, dark skin humans indicate high level of melanin in their skin that could outstand the uv light which often causes cancer.. in the tropical zone, the native people tend to have darker skin compared to people in the nontropical zone.. this is because the dark skin could help them to survive better and outlive the light skinned people and spread their genes better in the population.. and sexual desire is one of the best evidence of natural selection too that show even our behaviour is genetically inherited.. sexual desire drives us to reproduce and the one who has strong enough of sexual desire (especially male) tend to spread their genes better in the population.. that's why male tend to have a hell of sexual desire

Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when the atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product, the sensation I call thought. But, if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? It's like upsetting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London. But if I can't trust my own thinking, of course I can't trust the arguments leading to Atheism, and therefore have no reason to be an Atheist, or anything else. Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God. (C.S. Lewis)

Until there is evidence supporting a creator the intelligent person will not believe in one. +Don Cook your argument basically boils down to "If Atheism is true then I can't trust my own thinking." Since you do trust your own thinking Atheism must be false. Sorry but whether or not you trust your own thinking does not prove whether there is a god or not. It simply proves you can think. It tells us nothing about how the process of "thinking" came into being. I'd also like to add that the milk jug analogy is a completely false analogy. A better analogy would be if a milk jug was spilled, then somehow the bacteria in it survived and reproduced and eventually evolved into a thinking sentient being. That is something that is actually possible.

+Canadian Atheist Aloha. It's good to meet an honest atheist. I still find it difficult to believe that all there is is what we can detect with our physical senses. +Don Cook Hi Don, I can sympathize with your feelings. Even though I definitely am an atheist I find it hard to believe that the entire Universe exists due to some kind of cosmic accident. Nevertheless until reliable testable evidence is presented my default position is to not believe. This holds true for any supernatural belief (ghosts, loch ness, bigfoot, ferries, other gods etc). I will not believe something until there is reason to do so. I resist my emotional desire to believe in something because I'm uncomfortable with the thought of it not being true. With that in mind I respect your opinion and feelings. I do wholly disagree with your statement "I need to believe in the supernatural - otherwise it would be very sad to live in an environment where love and hope do not exist." I have a great family that includes siblings and an amazing woman who was foolish enough to marry me (LOL) as well as 2 children I'm more proud of every day. My life literally is filled with love and hope every hour and all of this comes about due to our relationships with each other, not with the belief in a deity. When I look at animals (a mother cat and kittens for example), I see animals that love and care about each other yet they have no belief in the supernatural. I would argue then, that a belief in a deity is not needed for this. I understand you believe that a deity is required for love and hope. I just don't share that. I do, however, believe that you and I are probably very much alike. We both love and care about the people around us with our entire hearts and minds. We just differ on the cause, or origin, of that love. Anyway thanks for replying! I wish you and yours the very best!

New needed adaptations don't come from mutations in the female's eggs or male's sperm. It comes from the epigenome getting its cues from the environment that the offspring are getting from mom and dad. The resulting epigenetics comes from the same system that our gene expression modifications occur. Nice story, evolutionists but it's not accurate. Eggs have this information along with seminal fluid of the male passed on to the offspring. This is what natural selection works with. This system by its logistics has an intelligent design signature. Aside from these intelligent adaptations, you have to get your mind wrapped around that there is a difference between epigenome-derived adaptations and effects from mutations. DNA mutations/mutation load can stopped offspring capability and make a new phenotype but are evolution impertinent. It's a non-sequitur to say all of the theorized macroevolution comes from mutation load. Nice sleight of hand, evolutionists, for passing this off as 'evidence' for your not-happening theory. The smoke and mirrors you have passed off onto the world would make Barnum Circus jealous. You have made fools out of millions and millions of people since 1859. There's your science and logistics, folks. We area creation. The Creator? Jesus Christ beyond doubt. Here is a definition of the epigenome in which was found in 2014 of transgenerational passing of adaptations without the evolutionary theory having a hand in it... Definition of epigenome : the complement of chemical compounds that modify the expression and function of the genome Access to the genes is controlled by the epigenome, a layer of millions of proteins and other marks that attach themselves to the genome. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/epigenome Epigenome Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

Ahh yes 99% of scientists are wrong and a book riddled with scientific flaws is right. And ofc mutations aren’t the sole drivers of macroevolution…there’s mutation, gene flow, genetic drift, and natural selection…and the existence of Epigenomes or epigenetics is far from proving the existence of god

@@DhukuAC All of the subjects of gene flow, genetic drift, and natural selection was taught to you by your mentors as 'evidence' of evolving DNA mutations. They were not. They were all gene expression/epigenome related. The theory of evolution was called factual because of its predictive ability. The expected 'outcomes' from your mentor's predictions of evolving DNA mutations ended up being non-mutative epigenome-derived adaptations. Their big precept is now found wrong. With the wrong precept, all of the concepts of evolution like gene flow, genetic drift, and natural selection become a huge misdirection. The whole house of cards comes down for evolution. Now with genome mutations...they are mere mutation load. They do have effects on appearances and ability to have offspring but are evolution-impertinent. They have no inter-relation to genome-derived adaptations. Now the assertion genome degeneration causes evolution generation is laid bare as being absurd. IT'S COMIC BOOK SCIENCE. Ever hear of someone innocent of being framed for murder? Conversely, evolution fans, all you have fallen for is framed evidence for evolution. It's all been a juggling act. Smoke and mirrors. We are a creation. That is what is left. All of you would have an opened mind for new science changing the worldview for you but the theory of evolution tampers with the moral compass and has immense amount of political science aspects to it, you can't accept it. Does the idea of forever-life as a gift without works that bad? Really? That is what you are giving up if you are using ToE as an excuse to be an atheist. Christians who believe in it? They are merely fooled but still have their salvation. Learn how to receive the free gift...the theory of evolution gives you fatalism and falseness.

@@martylawrence5532 we aren’t creation. And your points are highly flawed and they weren’t all epigenome related lmaooo…genome mutations are evolution impertinent lmaoooo…that’s the dumbest argument I’ve heard on evolution yet. Mutations are essential to evolution. Every genetic feature in every organism was, initially, the result of a mutation. The new genetic variant (allele) spreads via reproduction, and differential reproduction is a defining aspect of evolution. And no evolutionary morality is well established and has helped homo sapients survive for millennia… and no Genrtic drift and natural selection and gene flow are seperate of what you mentioned as what you mentioned is purely mutation. Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene expression that occur via mechanisms such as DNA methylation, histone acetylation, and microRNA modification. When these epigenetics changes are heritable, they can influence evolution and that’s observable even in creatures of this age. And no God isn’t real.

Jeffery N Williams Retired Army and NASA Astronaut He visited a new exhibition at the Museum of the Bible in Washington 2023. During his career he spent 534 days in space on expeditions from 2000 to 2016. He told the Christian Post “Science does not contradict Christianity [My comment: true science proves the Bible with all its sophisticated mathematical equations that could not come about by chance]. The contradiction comes into your philosophy going into science. [My comment: philosophy meaning Darwinian Evolutionary Religion which has nothing to do with true science] And your philosophy either acknowledges a God that has revealed himself specifically in the scriptures of the Bible, or your philosophy discounts or doesn’t allow for God and you have to explain the existence of everything by chance over time. [My comment: evolution is all about naturalism and the proponents of this religion will not allow a Divine foot in the door, because their careers will be in jeopardy if they do]. The history of true science grew out of a biblical perspective which was then a worldview believed by scientists. These early scientists were theologians and this is not mentioned in science textbooks to students. Like Newton, many had mathematical equations named after them. These early scientists were convicted by the Bible and they were driven to discover God’s handy work from a scientific prospective. The most successful propaganda campaign started after the publication of Darwin’s book: The Origin of Species and Preservation of Favoured Races. This book also encouraged Racism. This campaign started in the 1800’s and really started to take root in the 1900’s. Remember what Hitler said: Tell a lie long enough, loud enough and often enough and people will eventually believe it. We observe a lot of things in science today but do not really understand them, because they cannot be seen with the human eye. There are four fundamental forces in nature: gravity, electromagnetic forces which can produce electricity for example. There are strong forces and weak forces at an atomic level within the atom: protons, electrons and neutrons. When the atom was split it gave birth to the atomic bomb. Strong force and weak force at an atomic level hold the atom together, but we cannot see this phenomenon, this energy. Protons that are positively charged repel each other if they come to close together. What holds an atom together is hypothesized as strong and weak forces and that is all that can be said, nobody really understands these four fundamental forces. We do not see them in existence but they are a testimony to God’s sustaining power and Godhead, so that men are without excuse. The invisible things of him, even his eternal power and Godhead are clearly seen by the things that are made. We live in a Goldilocks environment, perfect conditions to allow for life on the earth. Design, purpose and plan are recognized in true science. Many scientists take for granted that materialism is king and answers everything by mutations and natural selection over billions of years. Mutations destroy information, life is complex, not simple as discovered by the single cell. It suffers from one thing irreducible complexity, like all living organisms it makes up. All the components have to exist spontaneously in order for a single cell to exist, including you and me, who have many systems in the body which rely on each other for purpose and existence. Man was created and called to steward the earth and therefore take care of it. It was God’s good pleasure to give man the earth in order to see what he would do with it. Divine intervention will come at Armageddon to stop man destroying himself through selfishness and greed. The world is in a state today because it has its priorities wrong. God came in the person of his Son Jesus Christ in order to reconcile God to man.

This guy doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. "Everyone that gets a vaccination and a bone set (medical science) has benefited from evolution being taught." These arguments are non-sequitur. These arguments have no correlation. Think a little people...please just think a little. Don't just accept what an engineer spews about biology because he had a popular child TV show. If he really believed in evolution then he should advocate not treating people with vaccines and fracture fixation for the fittest sake (that is why we are different, we care for people). We reward and lift up those that reject the principles of evolutionary thinking. We acknowledge the work of those that helped the needy and the surgeon that operated on those with deformities, etc. If you really believed in the fittest: Why do we have prisons? Shouldn't we reward the one that destroy the weak? Who is to say that destroying a group of people is wrong? What if we conclude they are less evolved. Do you really want this theory to be practiced?

Zxyw 0987 Right over your head I guess. Not sure what you do for a living but I'm positive an Engineer is the one who finds practical applications for science (he's qualified). Did genetics find answers about human weakness and ways too directly target those weaknesses? Did genetics give us a clear way to analyze DNA and compare species? The answer is yes. There is much more to be considered but evolutionary "theory" has been used in both medical science and to your weirder point to prove there is no difference in "people". With our current knowledge we as a species have cured disease and proven there is no such thing as race. I agree the concepts of evolution started a little racist to say the least but as science will always do, it corrected and through many experiments and observations the truth did come out. If your fine with your family and friends not using any medical science developed with concepts of both micro and macro evolution have fun. I strongly believe if we did that experiment we would find pretty quickly life expectancy's of both groups would become disparate. Put your money where your mouth is and don't use any new technology that has been developed by scientists you just don't want to believe.

+Zxyw 0987 But it's not about believing that evolution is the way of life. He is saying that he believes evolution and understand as a fact that it happened, not that we should just ignore principles and morality and just let natural selection do its thing. If what you are saying is what you believe should happen. If a dude with a gun came up to you and was about to kill you but was stopped because of "laws", would you want those laws to vanish and allow him to kill you or would you want to live? If what you're saying is what you want to live like then you should choose to banish the laws and let him kill you because he is the more superior being in that situation. Then by doing so you, you are letting natural selection do its work.. Also there is a difference between other species and us. We are intelligent. We don't have to fight each other for food like lions do in the jungle. We have a society where we have made it possible for people to get access to food without killing each other.

+Zxyw 0987 *This guy doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. "Everyone that gets a vaccination and a bone set (medical science) has benefited from evolution being taught." These arguments are non-sequitur. These arguments have no correlation.* You're wrong. The knowledge gained from a better understanding and, by association, better education concerning evolutionary theory have directly impacted advances in medicine, technology, agriculture and environmental restoration. The connection is there- a better understanding of evolution has allowed people to understand how vaccines work and how to improve them, as well as diminish their use through better public health education and awareness, all by learning about how viruses and bacteria function, mutate and how infection occurs. *Don't just accept what an engineer spews about biology because he had a popular child TV show.* I don't. I accept what he "spews" because it's currently the best and most accurate information concerning the natural world and its variance, and I accept it because he at least received an education. You might as well be saying that you shouldn't trust science teachers because not all of them are engaged in active scientific research. That's not fair, and it's disingenuous to suggest that what they educate others on bears no merits. Nye is an educator, someone who disseminates information to others so they can posses that knowledge as well. It's unfair and dishonest to suggest that what he says has no merit simply because he's an engineer and not a biologist. *If he really believed in evolution then he should advocate not treating people with vaccines and fracture fixation for the fittest sake (that is why we are different, we care for people).* "Fitness" is not measured solely through strength or resilience to viral or bacterial infection. We are a type of mammal that is biologically wired for altruism, and that gives us an advantage in settings where sticking together and working in tandem with a community increases the chances of survival in harsh conditions. We are not the only mammals that possess rudimentary or extreme altruism, either- you see it in herd animals, wolves, whale pods and even among eusocial insects. So the idea that "we are different" because we "care for people" is nonsense- other species will care for others of their own species as well. *We reward and lift up those that reject the principles of evolutionary thinking. We acknowledge the work of those that helped the needy and the surgeon that operated on those with deformities, etc.* "Evolutionary thinking" is a bullshit term that creationists use when they want to equivocate the principles of evolutionary biology and variance of species, with some delusional idea of morality that justifies the expedience of those principles based on bias. That's not evolution. You should be ashamed for being so fucking dishonest for suggesting such a thing. Accepting evolution does no grant anyone license to murder, steal, lie or cheat in order to get ahead in life, particularly since those behaviors are detrimental to community survival which is _necessary_ for evolution. But you know what _does_ give people license to kill whoever they want, steal whatever they want or lie to anyone they want? You know what gives people license to restrict the freedoms of others, to advocate hatred against those who think differently from ourselves, or to cause harm to individuals or society? Religion. And it offers some of the poorest excuses for doing so. So you'll pardon me if I decide not to listen to any moron who calls Bill Nye a fool because he doesn't accept a pseudoscientific "theory" pushed by religious fundamentalist _fucktards_.

+Zxyw 0987 If evolution weren't true, don't you think you would find some atheists who don't believe in it then? But this never happens. Why do 100% of Atheists accept evolution as true, and disbelievers in evolution are 100% theists? And why would we believe in anyones particular religious teachings when there are thousands of different religions and none of them agree with each other? They can't all be true but they CAN all be false.
