As good as Bill's body was, it was his mind that set him apart from any other bodybuilder.

I met Bill Pearl in 1985, NABBA Universe, in Britain. He was conducting a 'Farewell Tour', then. Loved and admired, greatly, among NABBA faithful. Bill Pearl was the epitome of character and success in the fields of Physical Culture/Bodybuilding. His personal example is worthy of emulating in real substantial ways. Health and personal betterment, along with integrity and knowledge give us a true reflection. 👍

I bought his book in 1987 and he changed my entire concept of fitness. Things like resting is very important, and not too much too soon. The one thing that threw me was a lifting program where its 8 months of lifting, and the 9th month is nothing....rest...I applied his knowledge to aerobic activity more than weight lifting, but the same concepts are true in both areas. At 74 I can still easily jog 5 miles, and even jog on moderate hiking trails up and down hills over rough terraine. Not as fast as in the past, but still able. Thank you so much Mr. Bill Pearl.

I was one of Bill's followers and had contact with him when I began to lift weights regularly and seriously in my early 40's. Now in my 70s, his books still are kept at hand and provide essential counsel. Bill from the very beginning treated me kindly and with respect. And, yes, the quality of his character was what impressed me most.

What a poignant interview that captures what a nice man Bill Pearl was. There have been many amazing bodybuilders. What has endured with Bill was the kind and thoughtful man he was. You can't find a negative word about him. One of my regrets is that my BB mentor ,Chuck Amato and I were planning a trip to visit Bill around the time he turned 80. Unfortunately Chuck fell ill and called it off. Fortunately I reached out to Chuck in June of 2022 and took him out to lunch at the Olive Garden to celebrate his 80th birthday and thank him for all that he had done and meant to me.

Man, I miss Sir Bill Pearl so much... He was, and will ALWAYS truly be one of the GREATS of Oldschool & Drug-FREE Bodybuilding, as well as the LEGIT Realm of Physical Culture & the TRUE Strongmen World... ONE of a kind for sure! 😎💪👊⚔️ In fact, I only spoke a couple of times with him through facebook & Gmail over these past 5 years... But I was all cool with it, because I knew he was an extremely BUSY Man who had a LOTTA business to take care of---so I was ALWAYS excited as hell, psyched the fuck up & hyped outta my mind when he answered me back! And he always DID answer me back---ALWAYS! And with detailed, IN-depth, thought provoking & awesome answers as well, to say the very LEAST! The Man was extremely polite, patient and generous with his time & business... I always appreciated & loved that about Sir Bill, and I STILL do to the FULLEST 'till this very day... I'm definitely honoured & priveleged to have known him and to have talked to him---even though it was ONLY through online messages! It STILL means a LOT to me and I'll definitely cherish those awesome & Legendary memories! And man, last but definitely NOT least... With the unfortunate, painful & SAD depparture of Sir Bill Pearl, as well as Sir Marvin Eder a.k.a. The Biceps from the Bronx, we now truly have LOST all of the TRUE Strongmen, LEGIT Physical Culturists & Drug-FREE Bodybuilders of the CLASSIC Oldschool Bronze & Golden Era.... 😞😓😥 May they both R.I.P. 🙏

PEARLS OF WISDOM “What are the keys to maximum muscular growth? In my opinion there are 3 keys to maximum growth: 1) chose exercises which involve the greatest number of muscles fibers, such as bench press, military press, heavy rows, squats, etc; 2) keep your reps relatively low, between 6 and 8; 3) execute numerous sets of these exercises”. Bill Pearl “People ask me why I don’t believe in workouts pushed to muscular failure. In today’s bodybuilding, many people believe that working out to muscular failure, is the only way to achieve maximum growth. My answer is simple: if you do, for instance nine exercises in a routine, 3 sets per exercise and every set is pushed to failure (you can’t complete another rep) it means your muscles caved in 27 times in 27 sets”Bill Pearl "My approach has always been putting maximum effort in my workouts without reaching muscle failure! Last rep should leave the gym, feeling you did a great workout, but still having gas in the tank. Because if you leave the gym totally exhausted all the times, sooner or later working put will be hell, and you'll quit" Bill Pearl An example of suggested Bill Pearl routine: Sit-ups 1×max Leg raises 1×max Bench press 5×5 Standing Barbell military press 5×5 Barbell rows 5×6 Barbell curls 4×6 Barbell french press 4×6 Squat 4×5 3 times a week routine - use 75-90% of IRM for a single lift. Note: workout 3 days a week using 75-90%. Do 1-2 worm up sets before heavy work. As usual, increase weights when possible, eat well, rest adequately and drink a lot of water.
