Perhaps you have heard of the Golden Age in Spain? The Andalusian paradise? A time when from 711 to 1492, Islam ruled Spain. We're told it was a wonderful place where Jews, Christians, Muslims, all lived together in harmony. It was a wonderful, multicultural community.
Well, this is not quite true. And there's a book been written about this subject. By the way, one of the ways to see the importance of Spain being free of Islam, is to think of a Europe that was dominated by Islam. No music, no art and sculpture, no art and painting. So this is just some of the small effects if the multicultural paradise in Spain had ruled Europe.
There's been a wonderful book written about this called, "The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise," by Dario Fernandez-Morera www.amazon.com/Myth-Andalusia... . Now, the book is laid out in a very interesting way. Every chapter starts off with the argument for Islam and then it goes on to use facts to refute this argument. Now, the Islamic invasion is portrayed as a wonderful time when cultured elite Muslims came into a hillbilly part of Europe and took it over and brought great culture. But this is simply not the case. Spain was western Rome. They had poets, emperors. They had fine municipal buildings, irrigation. They had wonderful art. It was a very civilized place. It was the Arabs who were the barbarians.
Now another argument has been made that this wonderful golden age in Spain helped preserve Greek knowledge. But that also is false. Those were the Byzantine Empire. The eastern or Greek end of the Roman Empire. What Islam contributed to Europe was to dominate the trade on the Mediterranean with piracy and to impoverish Europe and make it part of the Dark Ages. The rule of Spain was plunder and domination and harsh Sharia Law. Christians and Jews who spoke against Islam could be murdered. Also, in the Muslim community, there was a violent suppression of heresies and apostacy.
This was not a nice place to live. Here's how ironic it is, there are some writers who even say that the sex slaves in Andalusian harems were free women. I don't know how they put that together but it is an argument that's advanced. There were atrocities committed both publicly and private by a Muslim rulers. As an example, one Muslim ruler, every spring and every fall, went out on jihad raids. If Spain was ruled by the Sharia, which means that Jews and Christians were dhimmis and subjugated and this was the rule of Spain in its Golden Age. It was not pluralist, it was not secular, and it offers no model whatsoever of what we might have in civil society as a wonderful way to run our lives.
Why this paradise? Well, it turns out that there were those who hated the Spanish Catholics. Such as Gibbons, who wrote, "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire," and Voltaire. And so, they built Islam up to tear the Catholics down.
So, if you would like to know more about the truth of a piece of western civilization, read this book on the Andalusian paradise. I highly recommend it. I guarantee that it will stretch your head.

PRODOS : Thanks for the link. Warner might have mentioned specific events such as at least one major anti-Jewish pogrom in Cordoba and other "transports" from Spain to North Africa. It was such a "golden age" that Maimonides emigrated from Spain to Egypt. That said, it should also be noted that other Jews were willing to collaborate with the Muslim invaders and form up into their own units flying Star of David banners to fight against the Christian reconquista. The Jewish role in the expansion and maintenance of the Islamic hegemon also needs demystifying.

I would like to point out one thing. Muslims did not rule the whole of Spain from 711 AD till 1492 AD. On 718 AD the Battle of Covadonga took place, it was the first Christian victory. Then, Christians gradually recovered their country. The frontier between Christian and Muslim kingdoms slowly moved southwards. In 1212 the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, won by a coalition of the Christian kingdoms, allowed Christians to penetrate into the Guadalquivir Valley. In 1248, Seville was reconquered. The Nazarí Kingdom of Granada languished for 200 years until The Catholic Kings (Isabel and Fernando) defeated Boabdil el Chico, the last muslim ruler of Granada. On January 2nd 1492, Boabdil surrendered. goo.gl/images/EKTSK5

It's very interesting the book which Bill Warner is quoting. But if you also want to know more about the Islamic invasion of Spain, I recommend the book "La conquista islámica de la península ibérica y la tergiversación del pasado" (The islamic conquest of the Iberic peninsula and the distortion of the past) by the Spanish historian Alejandro García Sanjuan. It's a book which debunks the idea that Spain was not invaded by Muslims, but Islamic Spain was the result of confrontation of the Arrianism (a type of christianity considered heretic by the Roman Church) and the Catholic Trinity. According to this negationist theory defended by Ignacio Olagüe Videla in his book "La revolución islámica de España" (The Islamic revolution of Spain), Islam in Spain emerged in 9th century as a fusion and evolution of Arrianism and Catholicism. Just another example of how so much political propaganda is spent on Islam. Olagüe was Spanish fascist, very close to the Spanish national-catolicism of Franco's regime. Fascism and political Islam have always been allies. Take for example that in the Spanish civil war, 100.000 Moroccian Muslims fought in general Francisco Franco's army against the Spanish Second Republic.

Don't try to spread lies. Even Muslims don't say the crazy things you just said.: " Arianism, Holy Trinity, etc. Islam is the result of Arianism and Catholicism..." What were the other ingredients in your salad ??. Like any dishonest person, you have forgotten a small detail. If there were Moors in the civil war is because Moroccan was a Spanish colony. It is enough to present Islam as a good thing.

Dr. Bill Warner is a hero. Courage in the face of ignorance. What continues to be fascinating is how anyone give an opinion on Islam without learning from the three sources (Koran, Hadith, & Sirah) from which Islam comes. It's been said, "One person's hate speech is another person's uncomfortable truth." While truth may be uncomfortable, it must be stated, restated, and again, restated. Thank you, Dr. Warner.

Thank you, Bill, for recommending this book, and it's good to know he teaches at Northwestern in the US because the interviewer quotes some notable American scholars and Obama as saying Andalusia was some kind of harmony and not discriminatory, which is ridiculous. Why this coddling of Islam? People don't even mention their huge slave trade, harems, castrations of slaves and I've seen pictures of castrated slaves as adults who were castrated as boys, 6 out of 10 them dying. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. still discriminate against Christians. They can't rebuild churches in Egypt, and churches aren't even allowed in KSA and they can't show their religion in public. KSA last year arrested two Lebanese who went there with Bibles! I'm listening to a video with a bunch of interviews with the author, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpvdfHd6rJytac0 ...and I am now arguing with a Berber descendent who is saying things like this. I hear this kind of talk from young Middle Easterners all the time, and weirdly they don't talk about their pre-Islamic history such as in Petra, Jordan, what the Nabateans built and also contributed to Arabic script. Petra was a marvel of engineering-a piping system and pools of water in a desert. I don't know if this attributed to their whole _Jahiliyyah_ idea pre-Islam "Days of Ignorance" and stupid people or it's always about boosting up Islam. How to deal with this and American liars! He said: _"And i didn't understand why you are trying to minimize the Muslim Golden Age ? Because muslim scholars took their works from Greeks so they can't take the credit for a lot of advancement that they made in those works ? By your logic , Greeks didn't do anything because their whole Civilization came from Ancient Mesopotamian and Ancient Egypt civilizations .. This is really stupidity and provocation ,"_ _"Remmember there was no "Good Empire" or "Good Wars" if you are talking about Ottoman Empires or Islamic invasions, but at least those empires never did a genocides or ethnic cleaning like Christians did in many continent , and all what you say about destroying pyramids and temples is a lie and bs , If this was true , Western Historians won't find anything today that is related to ancient people in Middle East."_ Oh, geesh, I had a lot of explaining to do. Besides, religion doesn't make a person intelligent and the "Islamic" part of the Golden Age is really irrelevant and just another thing to bolster Islam. Religion hurt advancements, especially in the Islamic world to modern times. It's not like I grew up saying, "Christian American Thomas Edison was the first to patent the lightbulb." (Beating out Nicholas Tesla) I have talked to Middle Easterners and African Muslims, and I find they have a deficiency in their own history, can't name all the scholars who _did_ do things (though most were from Persian Empire Asian territories, now Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Iran proper, and Greeks. I mentioned that the Muslims brought chess to Spain via India to Persia. Even though games were prohibited, I guess some people still played them just as backgammon used to be big in Iraq in the late 50s/early 60s which films show when the British were modernizing it and filmed everything. He didn't mention the 80 million Hindus the Muslims killed, the slavery all the way up to Iceland, taking sex slaves from Europe, destroying a lot of art, temples, etc. He thinks that because there are artifacts leftover, and the Europeans first excavated places like Babylonia, Persepolis, the Egyptian, etc. that they couldn't have destroyed so much. This is ignorance. I know how many Greek mosaics were destroyed, especially if they depicted real "living things" such as people, real lions, etc. so the artists had to make them not real looking. Likewise, Syria doesn't have that many of their friezes left, which are now in European museums, thankfully. They destroyed many of Persia's fire temples, even building a mosque on one of their fire temples. When famous poet Ferdowsi wrote the _Shahnameh,_ the second longest epic poem after India's _Mahabhardta,_ it was to save Persian language and it's pre-Islamic history. He used the phrase "200 Years of Silence" due to the invading Muslims. There was simply a lot to destroy and they didn't go everywhere and things have been discovered from tombs or whatever underground. Big things like temples and pyramids-say like the Acropolis, were too hard to destroy with no explosives. If the Muslims had their druthers, they would have destroyed all the Greek statues, many of them nude or half nude. Even the portraits of the Virgin Mary are not up to sharia covering-her neck area is exposed, and some young Muslims call her himation a hijab, but it's not. The style of the abaya and hijab actually came from Greek clothing styles 600 years earlier and many were outdoor wear; Greek nuns with the Archbishop here still wear these black abayas. I wonder what is original to Islam besides Muhammad. In one of my videos my great-great-great-great grandmother is wearing what looks like a proper hijab, but it was for outdoor wear-farming, etc. At the same time there were nude statues and women in little hats. Persian women had similar styles. Muslims persist with modesty and purity rules. Really obsessed with purity.

Thank you for a interesting statement. A few details.. Muslim pirate's kidnapping people along European coast line and ships as far as Iceland apparently went into 1 million, where only a few had money to regain their freedom. women wearing cloth were normal in Scandinavia too. It was primarily to keep hair free of dust from ordinary work with hay and straw. Washing hair in cold water from a bucket, in a mediocre heated room were definitely not a pleasure after a long days work. Even the time for drying would often be a unpleasant experience. Many people only had water outside the house. Splashing with cold water from a bucket in tight living conditions were only done when absolutely necessary.

Qur’an 39:7, "No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another." Surah 19:19, and Sahih al-Bukhari 3286 say, 'Jesus was faultless' . . . He had no burden of sin. Only the Almighty is faultless. What right do Muslims have denying the Almighty has a faultless Son who is also fully deity AND fully human? ... a faultless Son Who alone could make the only payment for sin *big enough* the Almighty Father in Heaven CAN accept. Only He could provide that *perfect payment* your sin demands-so you can get mercy and *He remains Perfectly Just* in the punishment of all sin. Trust that Jesus obediently, and to prove His great love for you, willingly took the punishment your sins deserved on His cross, making the only payment for your sins *perfect enough* the Almighty Father in Heaven CAN accept. Repent of trusting in the teachings of Islam- you can never do enough good deeds to get mercy for even one sin.

Qur’an 39:7, "No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another." ["another" means another Believer (muslim) ] I might add also that I am not a Christian and that in the Christian Book of Revelations talks about, Jesus as being faultless but he was laden with every sin ... and 'sin' is not like people think it is, 'sin' is like a sportsman when he/she keeps missing the target and still expecting a reward for have done so poorly. Jesus hit the mark every time and his reward was his closeness to HaShem ...this is the example all humankind should mimic the desire to be close to his/her maker. Here's how ... I use Seven Noahide Rules as my example and what they mean to me I have in square brackets in each rule ...these are for me as I know them .. it should be similar for all humankind but never attributed exactly the same because I am different and unique to everyone else just as you are different and unique to myself everyone else...you thus do self-exist in a figurative way as does your's and my maker. If not then we would all be living as cloned identities, thinking and feeling alike. 1. carry out justice - An imperative to pursue and enforce social justice, and a prohibition of any miscarriage of justice. [DENY SAFE HAVEN - BRING TO JUSTICE] 2. no blasphemy - Prohibits a curse directed at the Supreme Being. [just don't be disrespectful of your maker in word and thought, and one should NEVER go about exclaiming disrespect because people have different names and ideas for what created them and WILL BE OFFENDED] 3. no idolatry - Prohibits the worship of any human or any created thing. Also prohibited is the making of idols and involvement with the occult. This necessitates an understanding of the One G-D of Israel in nature. [if that's sounds like the G-D you know with a clear conscience then don't reinvent it and tell the world you now own it!!... just be contented in that you know G-D] 4. no illicit intercourse - Prohibits adultery, incest, homosexual intercourse and bestiality, according to Torah definitions. [don't forget intercourse also relates to WHAT we communicate] 5. no homicide - Prohibits murder and suicide. Causing injury is also forbidden. [obvious no no ..] 6. no theft - Prohibits the wrongful taking of another's goods. [don't covet anything!! that means stop being jealous of what another has because then you might be tempted steal it] 7. don't eat a limb of a living creature - Promotes the kind treatment of animal life. It also encourages an appreciation for all kinds of life and respect for nature as G‑D's creation. [YUK! just stop growing meat for harvesting it's not what we were created to do!] It's not that hard is it? I mean really...anyone behaving outside those rules as far as I care can drop dead where they stand. The authority of these laws derives from the verse, "And the Lord G-D commanded it upon the man…" (Gen. 2:16). Just as Moses also commanded people obey a simple set of universal rules ...AND ANOTHER THING, please stop referring to HaShem as a male or female ...and stop making offerings even in prayer because what could you give HaShem that HaShem doesn't have already? The word I am using HaShem simply means, 'The Name' because who really knows what our maker names is...do people on other planets all speak our languages? Who is ignorant today?

All of this, every thing ever put to pen is worthless in the eyes of the Gods. Because there are no Gods. It is so very simple, when we KNOW the Universe started 13.7 billion years ago as hot gas (mostly hydrogen and helium), and there are more atoms in the tip of your finger than there are stars in the Universe. Since a very brilliant ancient Greek decided the world was made of atoms, stupidity and hate has demanded compliance to ignorant dogma.

It does not matter whether you are a muslim or not. Sharia is incompatible with Western values. Most Moderate Muslims in the US claim they only want Sharia when it comes to civil matters like marriage and they claim that it will only apply to Muslims. That seems pretty reasonable on the surface, but it really isn't if you look closely. In a Sharia court, a woman's word only bears half a man's. This rule applies to both civil and criminal affairs. Let's also remember that marital rape is not a criminal offense under Sharia. In Sunni Islam, there is even a practice called triple talaq, where a man can divorce his wife by simply repeating the word "talaq" three times, leaving the woman with no say in the matter. Most Moderate Muslims admittedly take issue with this practice, but there is nothing they can do to get rid of it. The fact that liberals were marching in defense of Sharia across big cities recently leaves me speechless. *I'm no fan of Trump. I'm a left-winger who's tired of regressive Sharia apologists tainting the reputation of the Left. **People like Linda Sarsour claim Muhammad was a feminist. If that's really the case, then how come a woman's word only bears half a man's in a Sharia court? How come men are allowed to marry People of the Book but not women? Under Criminal Sharia Law, how come a woman can't leave the house without a male guardian? How come during a rape trial, a woman needs 4 male witnesses in order for her statements to bear truth? How come marital rape is not a criminal offense? I could come up with quite a few more examples if you'd like. Muhammad was a feminist, my ass. You might say that Sharia, the Quran, and even Islam as a whole can be reformed, but they really isn't the case. The Quran teaches itself and its teachings to be perfect, complete, and eternal, and shifted for all times. How in the world do you reform something that is already perfect, complete, and eternal, and suited for all times?

Dong La Ly. A man does not really divorce a woman by saying talaq three times Mr. Dong La Ly. This is kind of typical bigotry I hear most of the time. Talaq in sharia is process that can not be explained in few lines of comments. What you have said is just one of the lies about sharia in streets. Talaq takes place in courts in islam where all parties will present their argument and a judge will then decide according to the Sharia what will happen at the end.. A man can not just divorce a woman by saying a word. If you have seen a muslim man doing that sort of thing he did not follow sharia.

They had music and art ..accapella singing, drum music, geometric art ( like the wall carpet in the video ). You complain about Arabs..Abraham was an Arab. If the garden of Eden was in Iraq..then we are all Arabs. You say Muslim Spain was not a nice place to live..where is it a nice place to live? Where is it where people are not subjugated by their gov't or by society? Dhimmis paid tax ?..well so did Muslims pay tax plus charity. A bow tie instead of a beard ? Men with beards live longer. Throughout most of history most of the people most of the time covered their heads even in the U.S.A. Remember the fifties ? Sophisticated actresses wore stylish turbans. Women wore scarves to protect their styled hair. Men wore hats. The most fatal form of cancer is on the scalp. In the Bible people pray several times a day. If you cannot see both sides of an issue and vocalize them then you do not understand the issue.
