4yrs late but it's probably because they're so comfortable. if they had a more humble/reserved demeanor and way of interviewing it would probably be a lot less intimidating and intense in most of the interviews like this where the guests typically don't know them that well and are understandably nervous. they're just way too "open"... feels like there needs more boundaries to be secure.

This is the first time I've seen an H3 interview/podcast and I really hate it, just on a vibe level. Both of their creepy bug-eyed stares at Bill, Ethan's weird sneering smile, the hyperactive eyebrows, Hila's underpitched, vaguely affirmative mumbling, her repressed, diseased coughing off-camera only to cut back to her smiling like it's not even happening, Ethan's crotch-thrusting slouch, Bill's INCREDIBLE discomfort, none of which is to even START on the CONTENT of the interview. It was only a love of Bill's work and a desire to learn more about it (which went unfulfilled, thanks to Ethan) that kept me from flinging my phone away in horror and rending my flesh from my bones in an attempt to get these two nightmare beasts out from under my skin.

I dislike Ethan's (and Hila's) interviewing style. It seems almost as if they're trying to put words in their mouth sometimes, like the questions are usually like "so you did ________ because of _________, right?" when I think they should just phrase them without their own assumptions, like "so did you do ________ because of ________?" Minor nitpick

That's literally how interviews work. It is the interviewers job to keep the conversation flowing and keep it interesting. Bill is a very socially awkward person so for him to talk in front of a camera for an hour and a half with thousands and eventually millions of people watching is quite an achievement
@DonC23
@DonC23 5 жыл бұрын
@@manawearblack yeah and Ethan kind of fell back on some of the interviewing habits that made the Bill Burr podcast a total disaster. For instance, when he said to Bill Burr " So it seems like you really love your daughter..." or when he was asking Bill Wurtz if the nuclear bombings were something he wanted to be reverent towards... just awkward questions with obvious answers that make the guest feel uncomfortable and weird. Another bad habit is when he says things like, "the wonderful, amazing, brilliant, great Bill Wurtz." He did the same thing to Bill Burr and other guests and you can tell how awkward it makes them feel every time and how much they hate it. Burr was the only one I rember straight up calling him out for it and asking him to stop. I do enjoy the h3 podcasts but there is certainly a lot of room for improvement and they could be so much better if they take constructive criticism and improve the interviewing style.

I think what made this interview awkward is that Ethan can't "read" his guests very well, and does not possess the ability to adapt to others. It's not difficult to interview a weird, eccentric introvert, you just need to do it on their terms; and notice how Bill was throwing out hints and signals to talk about things he cares about, which Ethan just ignored to be able to stick to an arbitrary script or list of questions.

Ethan really is right with just how powerful the post-bomb sounds were. The silence is absolutely deafening. Speaking as an American with a Japanese great-grandmother that witnessed and survived the Nagasaki bombing, that part really hit me like few other pieces of media ever have.

14 weeks is not impressive because other creators spend one day, it's impressive because he did all the research, music, vocals and animation of a 10 minute video in just that time, which is crazy quick. I thought it would've taken him over a year...

I think an interview should be more like two friends talking in the sense that it should be casual yet one person's hould still be asking the questions and it should feel natural. At the beginning of this clip it felt fairly natural, I mean both of them are weird people so it won't be perfect lol but towards the end it got bad

Everyone's being so harsh about Bills social skills. He reminds me of my friend who has autism. Maybe this environment was just intimidating to him. It can be tricky for those who have autism/social anxiety/etc.

Jonnie Candito how is saying he seems autistic harsh? There's nothing wrong with having autism
@SaladDongs
@SaladDongs 5 жыл бұрын
S W well that’s pretty much false. There obviously is something wrong with autism considering not only its stigma but the fact that it’s literally a genetic disorder. I’m not saying autistic people should be prejudiced though. It’s like saying there’s nothing wrong with being fat. Just cause you ignore the downsides doesn’t mean anything and doesn’t help anybody not even the affected.
@swilson6170
@swilson6170 5 жыл бұрын
Salad Dongs having a medical condition doesn't mean there's something "wrong" with you, it literally just means your body and needs are different to others. Many people with autism have advantages that neurotypical people don't have. And ever thought the negative stigma is reinforced by people like you who argue that autism is something "wrong" in KZbin comments?
@swilson6170
@swilson6170 5 жыл бұрын
Salad Dongs being fat is not a medical condition and can not in any way be compared to autism. There are medical conditions linked to obesity (e.g. diabetes), but "fat" is not a medical condition. There is no point me reasoning with you if you seriously think there is any comparison point between the two.
