Mark your calendars, everyone. The Year-End charts will finally be revealed this Friday. I still think having more than seven weeks between ending the tracking year and announcing the charts is ridiculous, but anyway, I look forward to seeing all of your best and worst lists in the coming weeks!

Glad to see ‘Last Christmas’ with a new peak, 40 years after release! Disappointed that Mark didn’t like ‘Christmas Magic’ and I get some of the criticisms, but I'm still happy for Laufey on finally entering the Hot 100 nonetheless. ‘From The Start’ absolutely deserved to become a hit for her last year. This album is one of his worst performing to date,some of it is christmas season sure but idk maybe they'll see it didnt do as well and stop milking? For context,the last posthumous Juice album Fighting Demons sold around 110k first week, this one sold 86k first week,making it his worst performing album since his debut on a first week basis . I'll note that GB&GR sold badly at first but ended up having a massive shelf life and has billions of streams total now ,to the point that it made the billboard 200 year end for every single year since it's been released so far. I'll also note that this is less first week copies than WRLD On Drugs. You can say WOD did better beecause it was 2018 ,and october,and it had Future on it ,but that is still Juice Wrld's most divisive album to this day(and frankly his weirdest imo,i mean that as a compliment,i love WOD unlike a lot of people.)

At least the holiday takeover prevented a bigger posthumous Juice WRLD album bomb. Thank goodness this is apparently the final one because it’s honestly disgusting what his label are doing. Now can they please just let him rest without further milking his grave? 🤦

Here's something about my Spotify Wrapped this year I'd like to talk about. Remember when I posted my summer chart earlier this year? Looking back, the most interesting entry on that list was Wow! Wow! Wow! by Royal Republic. For some reason, it's the song from that album I talked about the most. Point is that the reason why it's so interesting now is because despite getting into my summer top twenty, it didn't end up being one of the 100 songs on my Spotify Wrapped. It was most likely on my summer list because I made it Billboard style where I give a certain amount of points for songs based on where they are on my weekly personal charts, and that song was around during the whole season. Even if I started giving that song two listens a week instead of three after its third week of its four month run, and a lot of songs had three listens a week during their four month runs. I mean yeah, Wow! Wow! Wow! was the weakest by default of the five singles from Royal Republic's newest album, it didn't feel like one of my twenty most summer 2024 defining songs to me anyways, even compared to others songs by the same band like Electra and Sha-La-La-Lady, and it was one of the reasons why when I talked about Lovers Always Lose, I had both that "NO, THE POINT OF THIS COMMENT ISN'T TO TALK ABOUT CHAPPELL ROAN" line and that part where, not to sound petty or like an attention seeker, I admitted that sometimes I relate to Schaffrillas when he says that talking about stuff he's passionate about gets less attention than when he talks about animated family films like with right under me. But on the other hand, that saxophone solo in Wow! Wow! Wow! kills.

Billboard Bubbling Under Top 25: December 14, 2024 (Basically it's just the rest of The Party Never Ends album that luckily didn't chart on the Hot 100 thanks to holiday music, and most of the impact last week not dropping off entirely, so it will be fascinating to see what fills the space as we get deeper in the holidays.) 1. Party By Myself by Juice WRLD (New) 2. Celebrate by Juice WRLD & Offset (New) 3. Goodbye by The Kid LAROI (New) (Still part of the album bomb, just wedged in the middle.) 4. Condone It by Juice WRLD (New) 5. Love Letter by Juice WRLD (New) 6. Adore You by Juice WRLD (New) 7. Cowboy Songs by George Birge (-4) (This may be able to crossover next week if country radio holds steady or gives it a last-ditch boost.) 8. Barbarian by Juice WRLD (New) 9. Best Friend by Juice WRLD & Fall Out Boy (New) (You think that after teaming with the late Lil Peep in 2019 Patrick Stump, or the whole band, not do another posthumous collab besides the paycheck.) 10. Nadie by Tito Double P (-6) 11. Jeffrey by Juice WRLD (New) 12. Gonna Love You by Parmalee (-10) (Yep, called it last week that it peaked on country radio so expect this to drop off soon.) 13. Boys Back Home by Dylan Marlowe & Dylan Scott (-6) 14. Headlock by Imogen Heap (+6) (Given how it was able to gain during this week of all times, while it will have an uphill battle against holiday music, if it can maintain or pick up momentum then I can see this crossing over within the next month which would be very fascinating.) 15. Floor It by Juice WRLD (New) 16. Dreamin by PARTYNEXTDOOR (-8) 17. Ends Of The Earth by Ty Myers (-12) 18. Spend It by Juice WRLD (New) 19. Michael McCorry Rose (-6) 21. Oxycodone by Juice WRLD (New) 22. Number One Girl by ROSE (-21) (This will get a boost from her solo debut album, but there's no way to predict it will hit the Hot 100 given the stronger streaming numbers required during the Christmas season.) 23. Bigger Houses by Dan + Shay (-8) 24. Beyond by Auli'l Cravalho ft. But again, it goes to show just how isolated and depressing these media industries can take a toll on an artist or actor until the individual proceeds to use drugs to make themselves feel better, quit the industry altogether, or suffer suicidal tendencies that no person should ever go through. But seeing this record company release music long after Juice World has been dead for 5 years is literally like releasing music that John Lennon made 45 years back and milking John Lennon for all his worth and ruin his reputation as much as Juice World did….But I Digress.

1) "All I Want for Christmas Is You" will break Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Shaboozey's record if Billboard doesn't decide to randomly change its rules. Let's be real here. That's *not* going to happen! Mariah Carey will take back her crown within the next few years. The song just became the biggest hit of her career and it's only going to get bigger... if it hasn't already! 🤓 2) Juice WRLD's label is making the same mistakes that X's label has been making when it comes to posthumous releases. Juice WRLD wanted his songs to be released but I don't think he would like how his legacy is being milked. You'd never see that with Lil Peep or Mac Miller. Their posthumous releases and re-releases have been handled pretty well so far. Mac Miller in particular is about to have his unreleased "Balloonerism" album drop on January 17, 2025 after years of bootlegs being circulated online. Like I said last week, either do things properly or just stop! 😒

Alright, Year-End coming out on Friday. Still working on my lists, but made good progress. It is also finals week for me though, but I also only have one left. I don't want to discuss my thoughts on any particular songs that will (or probably will) make the Year-End, so let's talk about something that will not make the Year-End. I find it so weird that during the week of February 10th the songs Hiss, Big Foot, and Facts did not come anywhere close to making the Year-End. You wanna know what was close though? Selfish by Justin Timberlake. Say what you want about the other 3 (especially Big Foot and Facts) but at least they felt like moments. They were relevant and people will remember them. But almost everyone gas forgotten about Justin's comeback this year. And for good reason. It is literally the most nothing R&B song I have ever heard. It is easily one of the worst non hits of the year. The fact that it stuck around on the charts for a while is insane to me, especially since the general public forgot about it. Just wanted to get my thoughts out on that one because there was a time when I thought it would make the Year-End. I'm not saying Selfish is worse than Big Foot or Facts btw. I'm just saying that out of all of these songs, Selfish was the least impactful and least relevant.

HM: Christmas Magic- It's OK but really an Amazon Exculsive, Come On, No BOTW1: Winter Ahead- Wow, This is a really good collab, I'll put in my Hoilday spotify playlist. BOTW2: Messy- This is Really catchy, I take this I really am tired of these Shameful Posthumous Release cash grabs, 2025 we better don't get any more of these again. Song Recommendation: These Walls by Dua Lipa and Pierre de Maere Said it before, said it again: Radical Optimism is one of the worst albums of 2024, and I am not happy about it, its misutilizing of Dua Lipa, and how it utterly missed the point of the psychedelia it claimed to aim for. I hated the way that only three songs were good or above, with almost all the rest sucking hard or not being interesting enough to care about. One of those tracks that I didn't find to suck as much as the rest (aside from Maria, which was more weird than bad) was These Walls. Granted, I haven't heard the original in any capacity before this review, so I didn't hate it all that much with what little I knew about it. So I did not expect myself to be intrigued by this remix with French singer Pierre de Maere. I was introduced to a lot of foreign music last by Piran (who loved Erop of Eronder, from Belgium iirc) and Sergej (who recommended to me an entire album from Italian singer Annalisa that won me over, especially Ragazza Sola). And that's why I not only appreciate music outside the languages I usually hear more now than ever, I was also hoping this remix was good. And... ok wow, let me get this out of the way: the original These Walls was bland, even if it had great sonic elements. I feel like there isn't really anything special about Dua Lipa crying about this doomed relationship and her thinking about the ways this couple wants to keep on trying to fix this romance even though the details, Dua Lipa's performance and this rollicking nu disco groove are incredible. Dua's charismatic and expressive personality, the drum machines, pianos and reverberating synths do a lot of heavy lifting. I loved the tight focus of the beat and melodies, and the structure of the entire song was well made. Dua was able to properly express her story, where she imagines that if the walls of her home could talk, they would convince her to give up on this relationship. However, while I don't think there's anything wrong with having a premise that's not new, I feel like Dua could have used a bit more special production cues or sonic elements to bring it to the next level. I concluded that this is a great sound which could unfortunately go stale because there wasn't anything sonically special outside Dua that could excuse the generic if well told story... ...then Pierre shows up. (Continued in reply)
@piran1807Ай бұрын
Thanks for the shoutout. I definitely disagree with you that 'Radical Optimism' was one of the worst albums of the year, but I'm glad you liked the French remix of 'These Walls' even if I personally prefer the original.

@Oble_NocedaАй бұрын
(cont) Holy shit, I was legit impressed by this remix. Dua's contemplating on whether she'll give up or not amidst her fantasies of the alive walls telling her to give up already. That story was already well realized, but this remix did what this song desperately needed to do: have something that elevated it to the next level. And MY GOD, doing French again with a French singer after Fever by Dua Lipa and Angéle impressed me in 2020 certainly shot this one off the roof, blowing the original out of the water in terms of quality along the way. Pierre's voice may be a bit more quiet and crowded, but it absolutely complements Dua's richer timbre and adds a surprising amount of nuance that the original simply didn't have. Dua's pains echoes throughout the rooms, bouncing around the walls in the process. This is something the original had to its name, and one that I am so glad was kept in the remix. However, we now get a new perspective: Pierre has the opposite reaction, as he sings quietly and compresses everything in the mix, implying this fear that he's being crushed by these walls around him. It makes sense, honestly. Once you notice Dua sings louder and with more diction, almost like she's shouting against Pierre mumbling through a restrained if still pained delivery, you realize the fascinating contrast of Dua feeling empty in a room that feels like it's walls are too far apart, even though Pierre feels like they are crushing him. She's lonely and lost, while he's instead overwhelmed by the claustrophobia caused by the walls in this room they share and his fading relationship with Dua, as if he was in a small jail cell. The contrast of two languages helps this too, where you get that both their specific details of this story are so different from one another (represented by the different lyrics and far more dissimilar tongues they came from), yet they're thinking about this same relationship and going through these same problems despite them thinking that they're each saying something different. It shines a light on how despite the dilemma of giving up versus persisting in terms of this relationship being clear in the original, the information and opinions clashing in her mind weren't fleshed enough to fully develop her conflict. It turns out that in the original Dua's writing was leaning significantly more towards being pessimistic despite the bright production conveying optimism (one of the ONLY DAMN TIMES this album actually manages to pull that feeling off), but to me the remix is so much better in doing the latter. Here, even Dua still says what is happening and how she feels like she's being defeated as the walls of her house convinces her of that (like in the original), you now get Pierre still showing up for her despite the complaints he has against the relationship even with the self blame.
@Oble_NocedaАй бұрын
I mean, I guess my only problem with this is it having the Hope Ur OK problem of the first chorus being inconsistent to the rest of the hooks, but that's a nitpick. The language and differing vocal intensities provided that last special spark this song needed to get into my heart. As a result, while I still adore the original, Pierre helped Dua make this remix completely win me over. Those elements provide shockingly great nuances to this story that were never here before, and the resulting glimpse of differing perspectives provide fascinating tension I didn't realize the original desperately needed before this happened. Sure, I listened to both versions for the first time last Sunday, but I digress. And THAT, my friends, is how you do a remix. You either dip this song in a brand new soundscape to give it a different atmosphere (like Roses by St Jhn and Imanbek), or add someone who can change the original song completely, for the better (like with People by Libianca and Becky G).This song does the latter so well, as the new optimistic yet agonized lyrical and vocal additions to this song not only fit the album better, but also improve on an original song that desperately needed something more to elevate it to heights beyond the already impressive feats it achieved. Yeah, this is legit stunning. I'm not sure if it surpasses Real Groove and Prisoner (or especially Demeanor and Fever) in terms of quality, but this remix is excellent as all hell despite the structure being a bit more iffy than I would like. Fantastic song, and if this mase a deluxe release of the album it would have easily surpassed Houdini and Happy for You to be the best song on the album. Highly recommend this one.
