Billboard deciding to put the Year-End lists behind a paywall is completely ridiculous and pathetic but sadly unsurprising. Such a greedy move from them. Anyway… now that they’re finally out, who else is excited for Mark’s best and worst lists over the next couple of weeks?

Ugh, the Christmas takeover really frustrates me at times. Without it, ‘TV Off’ and ‘Die With A Smile’ would’ve been #1 hits. Maybe the latter has a chance to get there in the new year considering it’s still doing very well on the radio? Nonetheless, these are two fantastic songs! ❤

@@piran1807 As far as I know, there's no movie with Lady Gaga in it coming out next year. Also, the thing about this comment is that I originally wanted to see people look at it and go 💀 when they realize what I'm referring to. But might as well go more detail into it. Like I said two weeks ago, that 2023 Lady Gaga number one movie was the fourth most widely shitted on movie of the year. But something I didn't bring up specifically was that it was the most widely shitted on number one movie of the year because the Borderlands movie and Y'all Already Know What Film I'm About to Mention Is didn't go to number ona and that Megamind thing was straight to streaming. I was skeptical about that movie back when others were looking forward to it, and yet it stills feels weird it got that honor. It's also interesting considering how one of the other cast members in that movie also played the most popular character from a movie that went to number one during the years I made comments about them. Oh, and another actor from the movie with the super popular character starred in another one of the most infamous number one movies of the year (Argylle). At least the 2023 Lady Gaga number one movie wasn't the worst sequel to a great movie about a villain of the year.

Thoughts on a music-related thing outside the charts here. Well, it kinda is. Apparently there's five music-related movies expected to be nominated for Best Picture. Two are on every list I've seen (Wicked and Emilia Perez), and three of them are on some but not others (Sing Sing, A Complete Unknown, and The Piano Lesson). I doubt all of them will get nominated, but the fact there's still five of them still means it's a good time to be a music nerd. I personally seen 1/5 of them. Complete Unknown in particular isn't even out yet, so I can't see it even if I wanted to. And unfortunately, the one I watched is the one that's gonna spawn a ton of discourses about how it's undeserved. And yeah, Emilia Perez is a movie somebody would have strong thoughts on. As a bonus, I once found an Oscars prediction list that predicted The Wild Robot would get a Best Picture nomination. It's cute whenever I see naive people think the Oscars would allow animated films to get Best Picture nominations. People who think The Substance will get a Best Picture nom are cute as well. Apparently the Best Original Song shortlist was announced today. I'll talk about that next week. For now, it's time to talk about the seven movies I brought up. I do hope all the shortlist songs are better than that one good but overrated 2020's Oscar nominated song and one of the songs is Claw Machine from I Saw the TV Glow. Billboard Bubbling Under Top 25: December 21, 2024 (Mainly a reset button after The Party Never Ends album bomb completely fell away.) 1. Cowboy Songs by George Birge (+6) (I would say this could crossover next week, but given that country radio is all this has and has not only taken the top spot there while possibly peaking, I've got no idea if it is guaranteed.) 2. Nadie by Tito Double P (+8) 3. Strategy by TWICE (New) (I am disappointed this barely missed the charts this week, this track definitely would've stood out in a good way, solo or version Megan Thee Stallion, which I'm confused why that version wasn't credited given that version was bigger on Spotify the moment the album came out and they made a video for it but who knows.) 4. Gervonta by Peso Pluma (New) 5. Boys Back Home by Dylan Marlowe & Dylan Scott (+8) 6. Number One Girl by ROSE (+16) (As I expected this both got a boost thanks to the album but also struggled to make more impact given the holiday season.) 7. Georgia Ways by Quavo, Luke Bryan & Teddy Swims (New) (Honestly, this combination doesn't feel as bizarre for a few reasons and I might update this later if I decide to hear it properly.) 8. Presidente by Gabito Ballesteros, Natanael Cano, Neton Vega & Luis R Conriquez (+11) 9. Ends Of The Earth by Ty Myers (+8) 10. Dreamin by PARTYNEXTDOOR (+6) 11. Touchdown by Lil Baby (New) 12. Rosones by Jorsshh & Fuerza Regida (Re-Entry) (Just as Tito Double P's version charts, of course, we should have this one return based on that beef notoriety right?) 13. Headlock by Imogen Heap (+1) 14. Somethin' 'Bout A Woman by Thomas Rhett ft. Teddy Swims (+11) 15. Make It To The Morning by PARTYNEXTDOOR (New) (Yet another album cut from P4 showing up during the holiday slowdown.) 16. Bigger Houses by Dan + Shay (+7) 17. Here We Go (Uh Oh) by Coco Jones (Re-Entry) 18. Regalo De Dios by Julion Alvarez (Re-Entry) 19. Gonna Love You by Parmalee (-7) (If it wasn't for the album bomb disappearing this would've continued falling even harder given radio has clearly peaked.) 20. This Town's Been Too Good To Us by Dylan Scott (New) (Yet another example of a long extended radio push despite another one of your cuts that already had bigger significance.) 21. Santa Baby by Laufey (New) 22. I Smoked Away My Brain (I'm God X Demons Mashup) by A$AP Rocky ft. Imogen Heap & Clams Casino (Re-Entry) 23. Little Things by Ella Mai (Re-Entry) 24. House Again by Hudson Westbrook (Re-Entry) 25. Escapate by Tito Double P & Chino Pacas (Re-Entry)

1) With the way things are currently going, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" will break Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Shaboozey's record for the longest-charting #1 hit of all-time by next year. I don't know how to feel about that. It's a classic but it's older than me. A modern song would *never* be able to break Mariah Carey's soon-to-be reclaimed record unless we have another extremely slow year like in 2022! 🤓➡️😅 2) V making a posthumous collab with Bing Crosby feels weird. It was already weird when the late Natalie Cole made a posthumous collab with her late father, Nat King Cole, but she made that work. This is just... meh! 😕

Ain't No Love In Oklahoma left the charts a few weeks ago? I forgot to say what I planned on saying when it left. Oh well. Better late than never. So when I was dragged to Twisters, my biggest thought towards it was how I really liked the opening score. My favorite song from that movie is Nature's Masterpiece. When I tried to find it online, I couldn't find it anywhere. Then I found out they chose to release the film score weeks after the movie came out. I also remember topic videos in my recommended of film score from movies like that Beetlejuice sequel and Wicked even if I already brought that film up in a different comment getting released weeks or a month after the film they came from released. Why is this a thing? Why can't film score be available right away? Film score matters too!

So what's a song that has nothing to do with Christmas but still fits in that time of year? And I don't mean joke connections like the song itself being about cold weather, or it says uses the word, "holiday," in a synonym for vacation way, or it shares the name as a Christmas song like Joy to the World by Three Dog Night. I mean a song that really has nothing to Christmas, but still works well during the holiday season. I'll start. All My Friends by LCD Soundsystem and We Will Become Silhouettes by The Postal Service. Yes, I know We Will Become Silhouettes is supposed to he an objectively depressing song about a nuclear apocalypse. But dammit, the song's atmosphere still makes it fit.

I'm gonna be alone with this one and I'm not proud at all to say it. "KEKE" by 6ix9ine ft Fetty Wap & A Boogie With a Hoodie. ONLY THE INSTRUMENTAL!!! When I first heard it, these few things came to mind: Christmas, ice cream truck and straight-to-DVD (or rather straight-to-streaming in the modern era) wholesome family movies. Given the fact that it's a 6ix9ine song, that just kinda makes all those things more unsettling... But nevermind, it still sounds like it could've been used for a much better, Christmas parody song.

Even the stan problem in 2021 wasn't 2021's fault, it was a carryover of 2020. Also, Olivia Rodrigo.)

Chill, lovely and cool, unlike that bad yet unnoteworthy Trippie Redd collab) - Body Shop by Paco and Tommy Richman (wow, these recommendations all have the theme of unsanitary clutter and clunky mess, don't they? Anyways this mustard style beat meshes surprisingly well with the 2000s echo rap that Tommy boy has.) - Girl You're On My Mind by Ace Banzuelo (this funk and futuristic bass song is so damn catchy and fun. No wonder Ace Banzuelo got a lot of acclaim for his work! I suggest you listen to this, Alive and Walang Himala to understand why this man is SUCH a great producer and singer, which will also explain why people made Muli such a big hit back in 2022). - Double Wide by Gabrielle Rose (between this, Austin and Texas Hold Em, this is a FANTASTIC year for stomp-clap songs. Remember two weeks ago when I predicted that TWICE's 'Strategy' would probably make Bubbling Under? Yeah... I was right about that. It peaked at #3 over there. I do have a guess on why it didn't chart on the Hot 100 proper, but you're not gonna like it. Not too long after I left that comment, some news broke out at JYP Entertainment regarding their global girl group, VCHA. One of their members left the group and filed a lawsuit against the company. You can look up that story if you want; other people explain the whole situation better than I ever could. It's REALLY messy, and my heart weeps for those girls, especially considering how young they are. What I'm saying is, I think some k-pop fans are boycotting the company because of that very situation. If we're just going off of KZbin views, that's probably why 'Strategy' and Stray Kids' 'Walkin on Water' are "underperforming" (which is a shame, the latter song's awesome). For TWICE, I kinda get it - they've been around for nine years, we're in the Gen 5 era of k-pop, but come on! Megan Thee Stallion's on the track; that screams crossover! And as for Stray Kids, they're the biggest boy band we had since BTS; surely, we can do better than this, right?

I never actually thought about how the VCHA situation could possibly impact the chart success for "Strategy" and "Walkin On Water", just thought it was weird to release music in December because Christmas and holiday music. But that's possibly true, and such a huge shame because I really like both songs! "Walkin On Water" was the best song I heard from Stray Kids since "Back Door" and "Strategy" has such crossover potential with Megan Thee Stallion not sounding awkward on the song at all, she and Twice fit well in this mould. I hope somehow Twice could hit the chart next week, or at least last a second week in the bubbling under but let's face it. These K-pop western crossovers only last if they were consistently promoted. They may have gone all out when it was released almost 2 weeks ago but it'll probably slow down by the turn of the new year. Oh well, we can only hope.

It was simply wrong timing I believe. Tbh I was still surprised they debuted at #3 on the Bubbling Under, that just means they about 3 spots away from entering the Hot 100. If they released ‘STRATEGY’ few weeks earlier it could’ve become their highest charting song on the Hot 100. Anyways at least the song is still very great (should’ve been my 4th all caps BOTW if it had entered), and at least they’ve confirmed their 6th world tour next year

WOOOOOOW this week absolutely sucked for new arrivals! Best: Club (wow Bad Bunny just keeps on finding new sounds, doesn't he? I liked the atmosphere of Que Pasaria and Where She Goes way more but this is a moment of experimenting that worked so well! My only complaint is that this would only be an honorable mention in a better week) HM: Indigo (it's like a fusion of Something in the Orange and I Remember Everything. Neat.) DHM: Rosones (too brash and loud, I'm sorry. Dos Dias is a way better song from this talented man) Worst: Toxic Till The End (honestly, I think I appreciate the writing of the song more than the sound of the song itself. I'm sorry, it's just that I wish this had a lot more muscle to it. Apt was a lot of fun and Number One Girl was always meant to be subtle but heartbreaking, and both knew the lane they were in, whereas this just feels like it can't commit to the emotionality nor can it be energetic enough to go in the fun direction. Massive disappointment, and this honestly hurt me more than the mess of Rosones.)

'Toxic Till The End' would be my BOTW. In fact, it's a contender to be the #1 song in my personal charts tomorrow. I'm definitely in the minority with this one... 😭

ok, here we go. 3am - disaster, although toxic is still worse because this at least tries to be a bit more subtle and ends up less of a mismatch Two Years - really liked this one drinks and coffee - not a bad NewJeans percussion line but something about this isn't clicking for me Gameboy - way better than 3am and toxic but not that good. it's not bad either, though Stay a Little Longer - not sure if it's better than number one but still strong as hell not the same - eh, it's fine call it the end - great ballad too too bad for us - i think i finally figured out why this song works and 3am and toxic dont: her ballads and her most energetic songs are the best, anything in between (outside on the ground) sucks dance all night - fantastic song, not the best way to close the album so my favorite remains apt, then dance all night and number one girl tie with stay a little longer, then call it the end and too bad for us. rosie is strong, but anything that has a trap skitter that clips the top of the mix flat out sucks. toxic in particular is locked for my worst list this early. I apologize.

V was the only BTS member to have his solo entries were all-killed by BBBD OTWs (Christmas Tree is BOTW, Winter Ahead is HM, F-R-I-(END)-S is DM and White Christmas is WOTW).

‘STRATEGY’ debuted at #3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. Really sad it didn’t make the list, but still glad they made it despite the holiday songs, and it would have been their biggest Hot 100 hit if it was released few weeks ago. Moreover, ‘STRATEGY’ (album) debuted at #4 on Billboard 200 earning TWICE their 6th top 10 album, extending their record as the Kpop girl group with the most top 10 albums on Billboard 200; they are also 1 album away from tying BTS as the Kpop group with the most top 10 albums on Billboard 200.
