About time ‘Last Night’ left the Top 10. It definitely isn’t Morgan Wallen’s worst song but I got tired of it being a hit months ago. Speaking of long-lasting chart hits, it looks this week’s album bomb and the recurrency rules killed ‘Kill Bill’. Glad it finally managed to give SZA her first #1 song on the chart back in April!

I think Kill Bill would have left the chart even without the album bomb. It was outside the top 25 last week, which was its 52nd week, so unless it rebounded it would have been out anyway.

Here’s an interesting chart fact… Ariana Grande becomes the first artist in Hot 100 history to debut in the Top 10 with the lead single from each of her first seven albums. Really pleased to see ‘yes, and?’ straight in at #1 this week. It’s a fantastic song and I’m very excited for the full album in March! ❤

This is genuinely one of the most impressive chart records around, because it’s a showcase of consistent hype from the get-go *and* longevity. And don’t forget she also got a top 10 debut with 2015’s “Focus”, which was the initial lead single for AG3 (then “Moonlight”), before it got scrapped. The only current artist who could challenge Ariana is Olivia Rodrigo, who got both her leads debuting at #1 as well as in the top 10. But it’s way too early to make any predictions, as much as I have high hopes for Olivia’s long term career.

The 21 Savage album bomb is okay. ‘American Dream’ is a bit of a staggered listen but he’s definitely grown on me a lot as a rapper a lot since he first charted! Good to see ‘Redrum’ and ‘Née-Nah’ land in the Top 10 though. Definitely two of the highlights from it for me. Also, congratulations to Kali Uchis on her highest ever charting hit on the Hot 100! 😊

Given that I expect most of 21 Savage's album bomb will not last into next week, it might be interesting to check the bubbling under for what could fill in the gaps. 1. Sensational by Chris Brown ft. Davido & Lojay (=) (I expect these top two will likely chart next week.) 2. All I Need Is You by Chris Janson (+1) 3. Get Off Me by Kid Cudi & Travis Scott (New) (Very telling that this was the only song to get any traction from that album.) 4. Not Allowed by TV Girl (+1) 5. Diluvio by Rauw Alejandro (-3) 6. Tacata (Remix) by Tiagz, Fuerza Regida & El Alfa (=) 7. Poco A Poco by Xavi X Dareyes de La Sierra (+6) 8. Practice by Drake (-1) 9. Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 58 by Bizarrap & Young Miko (New) 10. Luna by Feid & ATL Jacob (New) (These next two Latin songs weathered the Kali Uchis album impact better than the others on the Latin charts.) 11. First Love by Oscar Ortiz X Edgardo Nunez (New) 12. Revival by Zach Bryan (-4) 13. Pensamientos Intrusivos by Kali Uchis (New) (She did see a bigger album bomb on the Latin songs chart FYI.) 14. We Ride by Bryan Martin (-2) 15. No Hay Ley Parte 2 by Kali Uchis & Rauw Alejandro (New) 16. Let's Go by Key Glock (New) 17. Creek Will Rise by Conner Smith (=) 18. Texas by BigXthaPlug (New) 19. Como Asi? by Kali Uchis (New) 20. La People by Peso Pluma & Tito Double P (-11) 21. WY@ by Brent Faiyaz (-2) 22. Not My Fault by Renee Rapp & Megan Thee Stallion (Re-Entry) (This got sent to pop radio so this could run similar momentum to 'Feather' if streaming ever recovered.) 23. Down With Me by Lil Tecca (-19) 24. Straight and Narrow by Sam Barber (-9) 25. Excesos by Fuerza Regida (-5)

1) Ariana Grande getting the #1 spot with "yes, and?" wasn't surprising. It was the first song of 2024 to have *that much* buzz after all! 🤓 2) "Kill Bill" lasted 52 weeks. It had a good run. I'm just surprised that "Snooze" is still around at *57* weeks! With the way things are currently going, I wouldn't be surprised if "Snooze" made it to the top half of this year's Year-End Hot 100. "Snooze" made it to #9 on last year's Year-End Hot 100. 3) It's interesting to see Muni Long finally get a second hit. She seemed like a one-hit wonder for a while. 4) "J CHRIST" charting at #69 is so fitting! 😆 5) I wonder how many songs from 21 Savage's album bomb will stick around. 🤔 I can see "redrum" sticking around. I've heard that song on Spotify several times by now.

BOTW: Redrum. A cool song, with a nice sample, slick vocals from 21, and solid lyrics. Pretty cool! HM (Tie): 02.02.99. A pretty solid song, with solid production, cool vocals, and alright lyrics. Between this and Johnny Dang, That Mexican OT is growing on me. HM (Tie): J Christ. Far from Lil Nas’ best song, but still a solid track, with fun production, LNX’s trademark charisma, and fun lyrics. Far from amazing, but still a decent lead single, and I can’t wait for more. HM (Tie): Yes, And? A solid groove, with fun production, cool vocals, and good lyrics. Not bad, I like it. HM (Tie): née-nah. A cool rap song, with slick production, great vocals from 21 and Travis, and cool lyrics. Great song. HM (Tie): Should’ve worn a bonnett. Great production, cool vocals, and solid lyrics. Absolute vibe. DM: N.I.H.E. Not bad, but pretty mid, and Doja doesn’t really fit here. WOTW: Sneaky. Just kinda forgettable and bland.

I’m shocked ‘J Christ’ debuted as low as it did. Maybe a lot of people were put off by how controversial the music video and some of the lyrics are? Anyway, the song itself is fine even it's still a watered-down version of 'Montero' for me. The beat reminds me a lot of ‘HUMBLE.’ by Kendrick Lamar too (even if I think that song is definitely leagues better than this).

Three things to note: 1) With "yes, and?" debuting at number one, Max Martin has surpassed George Martin for the producing most number-one hits in Hot 100 history. ("yes, and?" is the 24th) 2) Lil Nas X has announced a new single coming out this Friday called "WHERE DO WE GO NOW?" Let's hope the song is good and the course is corrected. 3) Also, Megan Thee Stallion will have a new song coming out on Friday called "Hiss". She's still going with the snake-motif, I see. Let's hope this song becomes a hit after Cobra unfortunately underperformed.

Album Thoughts: Saviors-Green Day I honestly didn't have the highest expections for it. Yeah, I did like the singles they released before the album, but Bobby Sox didn't get me excited to hear the songs that I haven't heard yet. That thing is a huge simp song, and it's not a compliment. There's also how it has songs with not good titles like Suzie Chapstick and Fancy Sauce. But luckily, I enjoyed it overall. Much like other albums that has a song that made a recommendation for except for But Here We Are, the song I already talked about is the best one with Dilemma. Though there's other fun songs in here like 1981, Goodnight Adeline, and Corvette Summer. Though I'm surprised by how I just like Father to a Son. Some of my favorite Green Day songs are their ballads like Boulevard of Broken Dreams and 21 Guns. So I'm surprised I don't consider that kind of song to be a highlight in this album. Still good stuff.

Meanwhile with different events that involve music, the Oscars nominess got announced recently. I was originally just gonna say my thoughts on this year's Best Original Song nominees, but instead, I'm gonna go the extra mile and rank all of this decade's Best Original Song nominees. Every 2020's Best Original Song Nominee Ranked: Bad Tier: 25. Applause-Sofia Carson Eh Tier: 24. I'm Standing With You-Chrissy Metz (Yes, I'm counting the 2019 songs. They were part of the 2020 Oscars after all.) 23. Into the Unknown-Idina Menzal (Yeah, I never liked this song. The fact this was the big Frozen 2 song instead of Show Yourself never made sense to me. I'm not a fan of the Frozen 2 soundtrack in general. I'm not a fan of Frozen 2 in general. Lego Movie 2 better.) Fine Tier: 22. Io Si (Seen)-Laura Pausini 21. I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away-Randy Newman 20. Hear My Voice-Celeste (When I was looking over the songs that got a Best Original Song nomination this decade, and I saw that Daniel Pemberton worked on this song, I was excited. Both Across the Spider-Verse's and The Bad Guys' scores proved he can provide good music for movies. Apparently he only goes all out for family movies. Disappointing that this is the one time his music got nominated at this award show. Spider-Verse's score got snubbed hard this year.) 19. Somehow You Do-Reba McEntire 18. It Never Went Away-Jon Batiste 17. The Fire Inside-Becky G (This is the best song that involves Diane Warren on the list. 7/10. Oh yeah, I also put songs with that rating in this tier.) 16. Husavik-Molly Sanden and Will Ferrell 15. Hold My Gaga-Lady Gaga 14. Naatu Naatu-Rahuul Kaala Bhairava (Yeah, I never got the hype for this song. I mean yeah, I like it. But I personally find it to be 7/10. I like the way it sounds for the most part. But the lyrics in the first verse are too nonsense for me unless I found a mistranslated version of them, and it gets weird towards the end. Is it a good song? I'd say so. But I wouldn't call it amazing. If you would put it higher, no problem, but I just don't think the same as you. Live performance was visually amazing though.) 13. Be Alive-Beyonce 12. Down To Joy-Van Morrison 11. Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)-Osage Tribal Singers Realy Enjoyable Tier: 10. Lift Me Up-Rihanna 9. Speak Now-Leslie Odom Jr. 8. Fight For You-H.E.R. (Remember how due to reasons we all know by now, award shows chose to be cowards and included the first two months of 2021 for eligibility? And one of the few that chose to be men and exclusively sticked with 2020 stuff was the goddamn Kids Choice Awards. Did a shitpost make a better decision than real award shows?) 7. Barbellujah-Billie Eilish (See! I told ya it was gonna get nominated! Oppenheimer, Maestro, and The Holdovers were good Best Pictures picks.) 6. No Time To Die-Billie Eilish 5. Dos Oruguitas-Sebastian Yatra This Isn't a Real Song. It's a Joke. But it is a Good Joke Tier: 4. I'm Just Ken-Ryan Gosling Incredible Tier (Three songs. This tier is three songs long.): 3. Stand Up-Cynthia Erivo 2. This Is A Life-Son Lux, Mitski, and David Bryne I remember that Your Song Saved My Life was on their shortlist in 2022, and I saw some prediction lists expecting it be nominated despite it not actually happening. If that song was actually nominated, I would unironically put it here. 1. (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again-Elton John and Taron Egerton (This was close to the 10/10 tier.) See ya next time when I talk about the only award show that matters, THE KIDS CHOICE AWARDS BABY! I love that trainwreck. Very curious to see what this year's movie categories will look like in particular considering that last year was one of the most Kids Choice Awards bait movies filled years for film ever. An Illumination movie with Awkwafina and Mr. Beast isn't even one of the top twenty most KCA bait movies of 2023. Wouldn't it be the funniest thing ever if the FNAF movie got a KCA Favorite Movie nomination? If it happens, I'll give everyone who sees this comment a PS5.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's kinda underwhlemed by yes, and? It's not bad by any stretch, and The production's pretty solid as a whole, but I don't like that ugly choppy vocal sample whatsoever, Ari just sounds kinda awkward over it especially during the bridge and it results in one of her slightly weaker vocal performances, and the lyrics are kinda giving You Need To Calm Down in terms of it trying to be an LGBTQ+/Self-Esteem anthem, but then smugly responding to her haters and saying "Why do you care so much whose d**k I ride?" Which given her frankly trifling-ass behavior in that whole affair with Ethan Slater, that line is.... CERTAINLY a choice. Plus, the framing of critics in the video is just obnoxious.

@@juliekeast6175 tbf, it isn't a 'BUWYG,IB' and trying to crap on something in a 'You Need To Calm Down' vein can be seen as punching down an audience that would ignore the controversies and take it in at face value. And I mean when you have Lovin' On Me and Truck Bed, there are worse enemies here.

That song is trash on moral principle alone. Idc if the groove is okay, the fact that she’s celebrating ruining someone’s marriage and tearing a family apart is absolutely disgusting. And Ethan Slater can go away too for being dumb enough to fall for her bullshit. He really does come off as one of those desperately horny theatre kids, iykyk.

If I’m being honest Lil Nas X fell off hard, the way he went from smash hits like old town road, Montero, industry baby and that’s what I want and look where he is now!

Flo Milli got her first Top 40 hit this week and I'm SO happy! She's also projected to soar to the Top 20 next week, girlie looks like she's FINALLY about to have a big hit on her hands, and I couldn't be happier! She deserves it and Never Lose Me is a BOP!

I'm shocked at how fast 'Never Lose Me' is skyrocketing up the chart. Good for her even if I think the song is mid.

Here is my question: What is your favorite Flo Milli song and does "Never Lose Me" stack up to those tracks?

And don’t forget SZA’s already been teasing an future remix of the song, so its momentum won’t be slowing down anytime soon. 👀

@@dariohernandez9967 It doesn't really stack up to the majority of her mixtapes like You Still Here Ho (Especially Conceited) or Ho Why Is You Here, but I still have a lot of fun with it.

Even if I enjoy that new Ariana song, I will say that it's one of her weakest singles for sure. Still happy it went to #1 :)

Also, its fantastic that Ariana Grande is finally making energetic, upbeat sounding pop music again. It sucks that Greedy was never a single, especially since it would have been the biggest thing ever if she released it this decade but this is a good consolation
