It’s funny, really. Elton John said two years ago that no “real songs” were popular anymore and that they were all boring, and yet the only thing he’s doing is reusing his old songs for cheap nostalgia and butchering them and making them duets while taking the personality out of the featured artists.

Elton John and Britney - "Kill me."

No joke, I heard that new rendition of that Elton John song that debuted this week when I was on a minor family trip for my mom's birthday near the end of August. I was shocked another one of Elton John's re-renditions got on the radio, let alone a re-rendition with Britney Spears of all people! And yeah, I can't help but wonder why those radio guys want to play that version and the PNAU remix of the Elton John re-rendition with Dua Lipa over the originals that work perfectly as they are!
@alex_flamer2 жыл бұрын
Probably because of radio payola. The labels make the song and they pay the radio to keep overplaying them which basically makes them hits. But really though, neither song should have been made because they have to do with marketing instead of artistic integrity.
@alex_flamer2 жыл бұрын
If the music industry is trying to make Elton John relevant again, what they really should do is put him in the studio and allow him to make a new record. Then pay to play his new material on top 40 stations. Even if he's in his 70s, he can still do it (see also, Paul McCartney who just turned 80, and his farewell tour which he still performs well at.) But I guess it might not sell considering a lot of people don't care about newer music from legacy acts and just want "the hits" from long ago.

Hey Yall, I've made another year-end list, and we're doing 2014, which I've seen many people in the Billboard community call one of the worst years for mainstream music in recent memory. For me, it was just kinda disappointing and mediocre after the excellence of 2011-13. I would also compare this current year of 2022 to 2014 in some capacity. I mean, think about it, both years started off stagnant as all heck, had Disney songs, and also had movie/TV show phenomenons that boosted the popularity of old songs. Honestly, though, I might even prefer 2014 over this year because at least 2014 had songs that were actually memorable! Anyways, let me know what yall think about this year-end list that I made! Would this have made 2014 a better or worse year for the charts? kzbin.info/aero/PLo_bTFCPxj34rJf9w9dKwbhUQqV1ozUJ2
@masterdriver1322 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on 2014 are about just the same as yours although I did think it was okay at best and it was underwhelming compared to the past few years before it. Looking at your Year-End playlist, it's much better than the original with overlooked gems and a bunch of great songs from different genres. I actually had no idea Troye Sivan charted in 2014, the earliest song I've heard from him was "Youth" in 2016. My favorite additions from your list would be "The Worst", "Headlights", "i", "Tennis Court", "Love Me Again", "Girl In A Country Song", "Do I Wanna Know?", "Bound 2", "Find You", and *especially* "3005".

The major positive is that Country has a stronger year in 2022 than 2014. But yeah Pop in both years is struggling, not even R&B can save it and Rap is struggling despite otherwise great projects.

Yeah, this was going to be bad just on paper alone)/Hold Me Closer (Basically Cold Heart but slightly better) In other words, JID deserved better.

I'm not giving a best & worst thus week because I don't care about DJ Khaled, but I will say that posthumous Juice WRLD song is dreadful in every way in terms in sound and bad taste, as for the other debuts, I'm glad Lainey Wilson got on the Hot 100 again, I just wish it wasn't because of HARDY, Nashville needs a wake up call and realize she'll talented on her own, I like Bebe Rexha & David Guetta, but I was disappointed with "I'm Good (Blue)," to me it does nothing with the sample and just goes no where, "Golden Hour" is fine, not much to say, "GATUBELA" isn't as good as "MAMIII" or "PROVENZA", but it's alright, I'm glad Lil Tjay is doing better, but I agree with Mark on a song like this, it's the reason why unlike most I couldn't get into Lil Durk's "AHH HA" and while I like "Cold Heart" and I'm happy for Britney, "Hold Me Closer" isn't great sorry. But still we should've got J.I.D instead of DJ Khaled.

Remember when I posted my personal summer chart on this channel? If so, remember how I said that not to sound like an ego maniac, but I'm pretty sure that my list will be better than how the actually Billboard Summer Top 20 will turn out since my list had no Heat Waves and STAY? Welp, they released the finalized version of that list recently and yeah, those two zombies are on it. And the sad part is that I can't even be surprised. Also, seeing You Proof be higher on that list than Glimpse of Us makes me question humanity. Virgin two zombie songs and two songs made by a white guy who said the n-word who told his fans not to listen to his music vs. Chad songs from family furry movies and Rich Minion. At least this year's song of the summer is better than any of the songs of the summer from the past ten years.

IMPO, a pretty rough, but interesting album bomb week. BOTW: "Golden Hour" (this one kinda clicked with me as the blend of Lauv and Bazzi). HM (tie): "Wait In The Truck" (very serious country tune, but I prefer Lainey Wilson to have more than just a hook here), "Beautiful" and "God Did". DM (tie): "I'm Good (Blue)" and "Use This Gospel (Remix)". WOTW: "Juice WRLD Did" (just let him rest in peace and stop it).

(Soundtrack for the readers 1/2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJislYlmbqpqa9E) DJ Khaled rode down the sky with a massive gilded bomb. "THEY AIN'T BELIEVE IN US!", he shouted with all of his usual pomp and circumstance. Khaled's triumphant cries echoed across the air and were heard by many...including DAVE, who couldn't immediately locate Khaled and his bomb, due to Harry destroying DAVE's eyes. "I NEED ANOTHER VOCAL SAMPLE, SO I CAN CALCULATE THE EXACT POSITION OF INDIVIDUAL NAMED KHALED MOHAMMED KHALED", thought DAVE. "GOD DID!!!!", roared Khaled. "AS YOU MORTALS SAY: 'BINGO'", spoke DAVE. "What?", Harry replied. DAVE's head turned around to face the bomb. Soon after that... "PEW!!!" Two concentrated bursts of pink, glowing blood were shot out of DAVE's empty eyesockets. The droplets crystallized quickly, as they were launched to the sky... ...with supersonic speeds. "BOOM!" "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT SOUND?!", Khaled wondered loudly. Suddenly, the two bloodshards hit the side of Khaled's bomb, not detonating it in midair, but derailing its' trajectory. "Oh shit, DAVE must've figured out our plans, Khaled!", Drake shouted. "NO WORRIES, DRAKE!!! I CAN GET THIS BABY TO LAND ANYWAY!!!", Khaled assured. The bomb did land...to the side of the giant spiraling mountain directly below the giant anomaly. As a result, debris from the side of the mountain flew everywhere. "Post! Amala! Where are you?!", Roddy Ricch shouted around, having separated from them. "...Roddy, catch meeee-EEEEEEEEEE!!!" "THOOMP!" "CRACK!" Kodak Black, who was riding with Khaled, fell directly on top of Roddy's neck. "Thank Jesus I survived!", exclaimed Kodak with joy...but then a big shadow formed above him. "Huh?!", Kodak wondered, as he looked above him...and noticed a giant rock, which fell directly on top of him and Roddy, crushing both of them. Other pieces of debris flew around, several of which flew to the direction of Elton and Dua. Dua covered her head... ...but nothing happened. When Dua looked up again, she noticed a blonde-haired woman stretching her arms, in front of the very pieces of debris that were about to crush her and Elton. "I was wondering when you would respond my calls", Elton spoke, addressing the blonde-haired woman. "Oh I was busy. I had some...legal matters", she responded, without turning to face Elton. "Don't you mean family matters?", Elton replied. "...not funny, Elton", she responded, still facing away from him. "Do you know each other?", Dua asked. "Don't you know who she is?", Elton asked. The woman turned around, with a sour frown on her face and suddenly uttered three words with a more electronic voice: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f53HaH6vlrqsepI) (Soundtrack for the readers 2/2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYq1kH6krNGLoNk) "Now, now Britney, you don't have to be so rude", Elton chastised. Dua was shocked. "Britney? As in..." "Britney Jean Spears, how long has it been?", Elton asked with a friendlier, exuberant tone. Britney's expression turned from frowning to smiling, as she ran towards Elton and embraced him. "It's been far too long!", Britney answered with an equally celebratory manner. "I haven't been in these lands for a long, long time", Britney stated. Elton laughed. "Neither have I, Britney. But these lands are currently facing an unprecedented threat", Elton responded. "Is that 'unprecedented threat' the reason why the sky has a huge crack in it?", Britney asked. "Pretty much", Dua replied. "Who are you? Elton, why haven't you introduced me to your new friend?", Britney wondered. "Oh, excuse me. My name is Dua." "Dua...what a lovely name!", Britney reacted. "Thanks", Dua responded as her cheeks began to blush. "So, where's that sky-breaking 'threat'?", Britney asked. "I'll show you the way!", Elton declared, as he, Britney and Dua ventured off to their encounter with DAVE... *To be continued*

First off, not only did NO songs from The Forever Story chart, but the ONE song from God Did that I actually wanted to chart, These Streets Know My Name, didn’t chart either. Screw you Billboard! Secondly, BOTW Tie: Hold Me Closer and Golden Hour. Hold Me Closer is a very nice vibe with an awesome sample, beautiful vocals from Britney Spears and Elton John, and good lyrics, and Golden Hour is a fantastic vibe, with beautiful production, awesome vocals from JVKE, and really good lyrics. 2 solid tracks that I’m fine with being hits. HM (Tie): God Did. The second best song from God Did behind These Streets Know My Name. The production is lovely, everyone gives a great performance, especially Jay Z, and the lyrics are really good. Solid track all around, I like this. HM (Tie): Beautiful. Relaxing production, great vocals from Future, SZA being SZA, and nice lyrics. An enjoyable track. HM (Tie): Beat The Odds. Not as good as Calling My Phone, but a solid track with enjoyable production, solid vocals, and good lyrics. Not bad. Not bad at all. HM (Tie): Use This Gospel Remix. Decent track, with solid production, good vocals from Ye and Eminem, and good lyrics. Really weird to see Eminem on a DJ Khaled track, but really cool too. HM (Tie): Wait In The Truck. Atmospheric production, nice vocals from HARDY, solid vocals from Lainey Wilson, and good lyrics. Solid track from 2 solid artists. ?: Juice WRLD Did. On the one hand, the production is really good, the vocals are great, and the lyrics are fun. But the fact that this is a JuiceWRLD track on a DJ Khaled album makes the song feel really sketchy, and a little distasteful. Still a good song, but I’m not really comfortable with giving this a full-on HM. DM (Tie): Keep Going. Ugly production, bad verses from everyone, even Lil Durk, who’s usually the saving grace in these types of songs, and bland lyrics. An absolute L of a track. DM (Tie): Let’s Pray. I don’t know how DJ Khaled did it, but he managed to get a bad performance out of Don Toliver. And in addition to that, generic production, Travis Scott giving a disposable guest verse, and fricking boring lyrics. Great job, Khaled. You managed to suck out the talent from one of the most awesomely vibey rappers of the 2020s. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. WOTW Tie: I’m Good (Blue) and It Ain’t Safe. Thank you so bloody much, David Guetta, for taking I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee), an absolutely fantastic song about an blue alien in a blue world, and removing all the charm and fun from the song, replacing it with boring production, one of the most soulless performances of Bebe Rhexa’s career, and generic party lyrics. Thanks a lot, we REALLY needed that. As for It Ain’t Safe, the production is generic and bland, the lyrics are boring, and it’s a collab between Nardo Wick and Kodak Black. Because we DESPERATELY needed to see the man who can’t ennunciate and Mr. “I get any girl I want, I Don’t Gotta R*pe” on a song together. Fan-friggin-tastic. Well, this week may not have been great, but at least it was interesting.

OK I just to rant about this album bomb that I was completely disgusted. Ofc, you earn the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and that horrendous remake of a Bee Gees classic completely ruined the song. Ugh. Not to forget you have an album bomb that nobody likes it. *NO-BO-DY-LIKES-IT!* Darn! Great huh, of out of these features, why is Kodak on the song? Even Juice WRLD was on your song? Jarad needs to rest in peace and we're tired of these posthumous unreleases. Man, I watched an album episode on the Spectrum Pulse channel. Ofc, I was supposed to see J.I.D. an album bomb that *everybody* wanted to see. That guy has a potential. I have high hopes that he should have an album bomb as what JCH music said. And what happened? An overrated rapper competes with this underrated and underground rapper and unfortnately, he earn the top spot and an album bomb, but what happened? He didn't make it to Top 10 and even an album bomb. Shame that one of his collab with Kenny Mason only debuted on Bubbling Under even Surround Sound didn't re-enter thanks to that overrated album that nobody wanted. At least the J.I.D. album getting recognition that he deserves. Again, #JusticeForJID
