The limitations that the Billboard computers put on the criteria and the early cut off of November 1st put far too many low peaking songs and hits from late 1982 on this year-end chart. The singles were only given credit for their performance between November 1st of 82 and November 1st of 83. Singles got no credit for their performance in 1982 or after 11/01/83. This is why AT40 did their own year-end charts in 1980, 81, 82, 83 and 84. When Billboard changed the cut off to December 1st and other criteria changes in 1985, did AT40 start using Billboard's official year-end chart. Up Where We Belong & Truly should have been on the 82 ye chart and Islands in the Stream & All Night Long should have been here in 83. I mean how can Moving Pictures be on the ye chart after peaking as low as #29?

You should have marked those songs that peaked late in 1982 to avoid confusion. Billboard's 1983 chart year went from November 1982 to October 1983.

Actually at the time it was November 1-October 31. It changed later in the 1980’s

I'm curious how Billboard calculated the top 100. "Africa" by Toto goes to #1 and it's #24 for the year, "Something Going On" by Frida peaks at #13 and it finishes #20 for the year. Also "Gloria" is in the top 100 of 1982 AND 1983.

Longevity played an important role in the year end position. Gloria was on the charts for a long period of tine and due to timing it split two chart years.
