Who is the Goat? What determines to be the goat? I don’t see Jay-Z as the goat all depends on who you ask. A business man 21 Grammy’s Still relevant in rap Sold records He’s Lyrical To the many this does not equate to being the goat. I call it a great career and depending on what you are looking for to some he is the goat because of said achievements. Jay-Z did not sell as many records in any era when it came to 2Pac, DMX, or a Eminem. 2Pac’s music till this day is timeless/substance. When 2 Pac was alive I’ve traveled many places overseas and in Africa for instance it was all about 2 Pac. Mike Tyson experienced this and said the same very thing himself. 2 Pac’s sphere is unmatched a poet at heart he has substance which resonated way more across the globe capturing the masses way more than Jay-Z whether dead or alive. Jay-Z has never had the same record selling successes like a 2 Pac, DMX, or Eminem etc in any era. When these guys put out albums you never heard of Jay-Z. Jay-Z was tactfully smart when to release his albums against competition. Both 2 Pac and Jay-Z are lyrical geniuses in their own realm. 2 PAC’s lyrics seems to resonate way more because the times we’ve experienced in life within the states or overseas he touched many hoods in so many ways you can imagine. Sure there were better MCs skillwise but his impact is undeniable. He was also versatile. These lyrical miracle spiritual MCs didn't really have any kind of substance in their bars. Pac came with not only DEAR MAMA, KEEP YA HEAD UP but All About U, Wonda Why They Call U B***h to go with it. He made you feel what he was saying good or bad. “Me and my Girlfriend” & against all odds!!! White Mans world! Michael Jordan over Lebron had more impact to the NBA game 2 Pac could be considered the goat as he had more impact on the rap game. Rap was built on where we come from and the struggles experienced in life. There was always a message. Who is the goat? All depends on what you are looking for it seems. Me personally NYC born in my opinion it’s not even a debate for me it’s 2 Pac.

How are you gonna base all of Jay's success on one period of time in the late 90's and early 00's and ignore everything else? Yes technically DMX was more popular than Jay for just 2 years. But their careers span over 2 decades and Jay-Z is at least in top 5 of best selling rappers of all time. It isn't fair to compare 2Pac and Biggie to other rappers bc people are way too biased and get too emotional attached to those two and it gets in the way of having real legitimate argument. The GOAT of Hip Hop is the rapper that score the highest in the categories that matter the most. By those standards Jay-Z is the GOAT. He has the impact, influence, body of work, longevity, hits, catalog, bars, sales, and the overall success. He might not be number 1 at any those standards. But he's in the conversation of every one. He might not be the best lyricist. But he's one of the best. He might not have the best catalog. But he's got one of the best. He might not have the most hits. But he's got plenty of hits. And etc. Jay fits into every lane more than any other rapper.

Biggue and Pac as rappers run circles around Nas. And Nas is a phenomenal rapper but horrible beat picker. That's why Hov's catalog is more impressive it showcases artistry. Nas is not a rapper everyone can listen to once and enjoy. He's smart with his rhymes and it takes more listens to really understand his genius. Nas in the last few years has put out some great projects that ignorant people have ignored or brushed off and the media has a lot to do with that.
