bed chem, while having an incredibly stupid name, is definitely one of the standouts on this project. i think the only reason i don't like taste as much is that the chorus feels really catty, and it rubs me the wrong way. otherwise it's pretty solid.

Sabrina Carpenter made an album, and it exists. Song Recommendation: Laminate the Sky-OMBIIGIZI Man, I don't think Golden Hair by Ivan Campo is the most obscure song I recommended anymore. The music video has less than 1,000 views, and the topic video has less than a 200 views. Shame because the song is wonderful. That guitar is lovely, the singing enhances the mood, and the lyrics work well for the vibe this song is going for. I feel like I'm being hugged just listening to this song. It's a pure comfy blanket. Maybe even one of the best songs I recommended too. We might have a top five now (This Song, Rockstar by The Struts, My Muse by Owl City, A Song I Mentioned Earlier and is Gonna Talk About Again, Bright Lights by The Killers). It figured that I mentioned that song earlier, because this might be the new Golden Hair.

I first came across Sabrina carpenter back in 2018/2019 when California Music Channel introduced me to one of her indie songs back in 2018/2019...Same with the song "nightmare" by Nowhere, nowhere (which is still my all time favorite punk rock song besides "Time Stands Still" by Rush, and "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down). A bar Tipsy is still at number one because, it's a song you can listen to year round compared to listening to it in the summer. Also, Mark, one of the largest common problems with this comment section, is that there are WAAYYY too many comments from the same person posting them four freakin' times....I literally just post one comment and include it ALL into one comment. What?? Are people on phones not capable of reading paragraphs of text because apparently they could careless about someone like me typing my opinion in one comment??? Making double comments should ONLY be included when you are continuing the first comment into the second comment...But that's just me.

Nothing this week is really interesting, so I’m going to skip the ranking, and just go straight into the Song Recommendations: No Faith in Brooklyn by Hoodie Allen and Jhameel: An absolute bop, with infectious production, awesome vocals from Hoodie and Jhameel, and fun lyrics. I forgot how awesome Hoodie Allen is! Ain't Easy Being Freaky by TAMIR!: An interesting little country comedy track, with fun production, slick vocals, and interesting lyrics. Funny song from a funny dude. Big Boss Rabbit by Freddie Gibbs: An infectious vibe, with great production, awesome rapping from Freddie, and fantastic lyrics. Truly immaculate song! Taylor Swif by A$AP Rocky: A cool track, with unique production, great rapping from Rocky, and cool lyrics. Great song all around! Summer Drop by Cordae and Anderson .Paak: A fantastic vibe, with chill production from J. Cole, Anderson and Cordae killing it, and fantastic lyrics. So much fun! Pick Me (Second Attempt) by Girl In Red: An interesting little remix, with great production, lovely vocals, and good lyrics. Neat little listen! Oh, and Dead Meat made a mini-Kill Count for the Taste music video. That’s pretty cool.

1) "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" may not have been the Song of the Summer but it definitely will stay the longest-charting #1 hit of 2024. 2) "I Remember Everything" *did* last a year! "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" lasted 24 weeks and "Bulletproof" lasted 20 weeks. 🤓

Please Please Please is one of the most complex pop hits we've had in years. Key change in the second verse😲 Even more chord chances in the outro 😱 These things are basically nonexistent in today's pop music. The melody is also great and the song manages to be very catchy too. Fantastic tune! I'm so glad it became a hit.

Another thing that I will mention is that Mark's analysis of "Taste" is generally correct and that if you don't get some of the small context the song might actually be referring to the Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes relationship with Sabrina in the mix, there isn't enough deeper detail that any cheating occurred within the song itself. If anyone wants to correct me on anything I just mentioned then be my guest.

Violet Stallion's Songs of the Summer (Mar-Aug) 10.Bubble by Unbased - Unbased is a friend from one of Piran's servers. This is her best song to date. 9.Mercedes by Oscar Maydon and Becky G - I think this might be my new favorite regional Mexican song. 8.Magnetic by Illit - Should've been a bigger hit dammit! 7.Hot To Go by Chappell Roan - Olivia helped this one reach the list. 6.Wake Up by Imagine Dragons - Loom was a not so good album, but this is the one song from it that's amazing. 5.I Like the Way You Kiss Me by Artemas - The vibes feel like a man who is too drunk or high to think of how horny or creepy he comes across as, so the toxic lyrics match the production and make this song WAAAAY more compelling and replayable than expected. 4.Honey Boy by PDM, Benjamin Ingrosso, Nile Rodgers and Shesneea - Man, Purple Disc Machine are so good at this! 3.Crew by Raye, Kojo Funds and Ray Blk - The pianos jolt at me in the best way, and Raye sells this so well! Wish Kojo and Ray got more to do though because their parts helped this song's case. 2.It Boy by BBNO$ - The song I listened to the most this summer iirc, albeit not the one I loved the most. It was close though because this is so much fun! 1.Salamin Salamin by Bini - Bini are a PPop group, with PPop as a Filipino offshoot of KPop. This group have released music since 2020, and while majority of their early stuff sucked, I was rooting for them. Not only did they break out into the Filipino mainstream this year, they also succeeded the most this year, with Salamin being an amazing love song that's basically to PPop what The Feels is to KPop. It represents all the reasons why I love this group, and is so bright and warm and upbeat and joyful that it easily gets the title of my song of the summer. Ok so look. I know a lot of things related to the 100% artificial and label driven "feud" between Taylor, Sabrina and Olivia have left a lot of unnecessary and unfair sour taste in my mouth, but as a Livi I have actively rooted for Sabrina to have good songs succeed in the Hot 100. And while I'm a bit put off by her breaking a Beatles record, I am at least happy that a) she got success to begin with, and b) Taste isn't just going to be bigger than Please Please Please as a hit, but also bigger than the other song of the same name by the PDF file. Congrats Sabrina, and may none of your haters, even if they include some of my fellow Livis, ever stop you from achieving the goals you deserve to have fulfilled as a pop star and as a person. Looking forward to more from you. :) Also, wow was I way off in saying that Taste would get that #1, but Mark was right on the money with Tipsy being a hit because it got pushed properly by Empire. No complaints since the song has exponentially grown on me :)

Song Thoughts: Kiss the Sky-Marren Morris I talked before how stuff with Spider-Verse animation tends to have good music except for Wish and Arcane. The Wild Robot in particular is one of my most anticipated movies of the rest of the year along with Piece by Piece. I better see that movie on the list of every number one song and movie pairing from this year. So I was curious about this song. Before it even released, I saw it on an Oscars Best Original Song prediction list. That movie is also considered to be the predicted Oscar winner in two other categories (Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song). With that information, they might as well give it a Best Picture nomination, but that won't happen because it's an animated film. Also, Marren Morris doesn't sound like someone who'd make a song for a DreamWorks movie, but ok. Did this song continue the tradition? I guess. It's decent, but I'm not wow'd by it. It's not on the same level as stuff like Good Tonight, Fearless Hero, Sunflower, and In Love. The singing and production are good, but nothing special. And knowing the plot of the movie, the lyrics are a bit too on the nose. I can't tell if during the chorus, they have background singers, or a lot of reverb. But i'd be lying if I said I wasn't kinda charmed by it. It's certainly a peaceful sounding song that plays during the credits of a family movie alright. As well as something I can't hear without thinking of watching something with an FX logo in the corner. I think I might just be done with Oscar nominated songs about believing in yourself. There are some notable topics that I want to discuss here: 1. "Die With A Smile" is not tied to Lady Gaga's seventh album, that lead-off single is dropping in October, just a collab to promote to radio with Bruno Mars. 2. I basically agree with Mark's picks for the best and worst tracks from the album bomb, especially with the worst picks only being more solidified upon giving the album another listen. 3. Given the lack of big album releases for September, except for Tommy Richman's debut album 'Coyote' dropping at the end of the month or surprise drops out of nowhere, the 'Short n' Sweet' album as a whole might not see enough competition to push them down as quickly as some might expect.
