I honestly feel like Code Lyoko was ahead of its time in a few ways. If it came out today with the ability to show blood/have major stakes, the XANA stuff could work so much better.
@Domi392 жыл бұрын
But It DID have major stakes...? It established from the getgo that returning to the past didn't bring people back to life. People were visibly in pain and close to dying practically every episode... That's precisely how it drove home its intensity. Jim and Ulrich were inches from asphyxiating in the closet in the one episode. And Ulrich's mom and dad along with everyone at his soccer game were screaming for their lives as gravity reversed and they were flying into the sky. And I won't spoil it for anyone that may end up watching it, but a character DIES and they all have to live with that. It conveyed the seriousness and intensity of life threatening situations extremely well. Growing up my dad was the chief of my local fire station and he didn't want me to watch Code Lyoko because he thought it was too intense for me. But in fact it taught me EXACTLY how to handle myself in high stress/life threatening situations. You don't need blood to convey the urgency of an emergency.

People always say something was their entire childhood, but for me that really was true with Code Lyoko, I would watch it everyday, I’d talk about constantly, I drew the characters and villians and made my own, I even invented entire sectors and such, I was doing advance fanfic shit but I didn’t write it, just the extra world building. I’d print screenshots of the show onto paper and hang them up in my room, and then my mum would yell at me for wasting the color ink. I had the DVDs and would just watch the show, over and over. Had plenty of toys, and the video games and I still love the series a lot. A few of the threats thrown at the lyoko warriors include nano bots that wipe memory from those they infect, xana figuring out how to reverse gravity to send people to the sky to die, a terminator, using a song to put people into a coma and manipulating the weather in an attempt to make the warriors freeze to death. Code Lyoko is my favorite cartoon of all time! It had alot of realistic school situations. Stress, school, relationships, Parent issues! I think Code Lyoko handled friendship much better then Shonen anime does! The biggest problem with Code Lyoko. The writers kept reckoning character development with the return to the past! Sissy,Gym could’ve been great support characters for the Lyoko warriors. But The writers clearly just did not care :/ Code Lyoko has a very interesting mystery story! But there is a bunch of filler. The episodes where Xanna keeps on destroying everything and possessing everything. Those episodes are complete Filler! You need to watch the episodes that tie in with all of Xana, Aelita and France hopper! I still watch Code Lyoko today! The series means so much to me. 💙🖤💙 They pretty much wasted William as a character, he should have been a Lyoko Warrior for at least a month before making him all evil for the rest of the series.... That wasn't fair to him!!!! :c Code Lyoko is my favorite cartoon of all time. But I feel like it's one of those Series where the creators didn't realize how amazing the show could have been if they actually were consistent with every character.... And every choice! Code Lyoko definitely had amazing story potential but I feel like the creators kept running into holes every other week.... :/ They just didn't want to keep (SIDE) characters being consistent. And pushing them.. That's why Return to the past became an issue for the series. Some characters needed that development but they kept taking it away from them!! :c like Sissy!!! She actually was a nice person but they kept making her into a jerk by going back in time. The Creator said the studio who holds the rights to (Code Lyoko) could technically make new episodes if they wanted to, but there are no promises.
@elizabethclarke4981 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, I've always believed Sissy should've been part of the team officially. It would've been a great opportunity for her to grow as a character: being more self sufficient and a team player etc plus I think her girly personality would have fit right in and make the group more complete because we have Jermey the nerd, Yumi the tomboy, Aelita the shy girl, Odd the goofball and Ulirch the cool guy

So, I am 46, and I dropped out of kids shoes when I was about, uh, 14 or 15 I think. I think the last show I watched episodes of on TV was something like…. Tiny Toons. 1990-1992. But I had a daughter, and when she was about 6 or 7, she got into Code Lyoko, and wanted to share it with me. So I watched it with her! Actually liked it! Good memories.

Part of me is jealous of everyone who were kids and teens when CODE Lyoko was airing. Miguzi took over the weekday afternoon action block position during my senior year in high school. I was much more focused on spending time outside the house, with my girlfriend at the time, and really only watched Cartoon Network much later in the evening... so Adult Swim and Toonami's Saturday evening block. Pretty much, unless I happened to be home, I mostly saw scattered episodes of CODE Lyoko, Totally Spies, Ben10, and the later seasons of Teen Titans.

As someone living in Quebec with no cable, I spent years seeing Code Lyoko during the morning weekend cartoons. I maybe wouldn't have chosen to watch it if I had more options, but it was definitively a favorite of mine! I feel like a lot of people shared this experience as well. I rewatched it recently with a friend and even though it's not the greatest, it definitively is entertaining! Clearly thinking about using it as inspiration for a future RPG game haha

Code Lyoko was far and wide my childhood. The interesting plots, the unique character designs. It just stuck with me even if it was a bit of an underground success, it was interesting to see all the different threats and bits of plotgress each season in my own unique sort of hidden underground tv show.

It's interesting to see how derivative Miraculous Ladybug is of Code Lyoko, especially with the "big beam of light undoes all the damage done in the episode" and introducing the origin story later in the run. Kagami also feels like she takes some inspiration from Yumi

Thomas Astruc, the creator of Miracilous worked as a storyboard artist during Code Lyoko's run (you can see his name in very first episode actually) and he definitely made some references to Code Lyoko (none of them to my knowledge are fully confirmed but you can see inspirations and references) - Despair Bear being reference to the very first Code Lyoko episode - Hack-San looking like a XANA's logo - Two parter finale of s5 (The Last Day 1&2)'s Miraculized look very much like ninja's from Code Lyoko Evolution (but the inspiration from their design could very much be Squid Game as well)

Correction, Code Lyoko is half-boarding school. And as a french, the school look really basic tbh. Looks like any building you will see by going outside. Also here in France, pretty much most of all PUBLIC own state High school are like that (especially outside of huge cities). It's only rare for Middle school tho because there is so many of them (unless that are attached of linked to the nearby high school). And that half-boarding stuff is not reserved to rich students but to students (regardless of class hierarchy) who live too far and don't have time to take the bus or train to go back home. We have 3 categories of students : Externe : Those who can go outside of school when they have a hole in their schedule, and can go home to eat at noon Demi-ensionnaire (~500€/year) : Those who can't go outside of school until the end their schedule of the day and eat at school Interne (~1000€/year) : Those who can't go back home in any way and are stuck at school, whith the autorisation to go sometimes in the nearby city if their parents signed an authorisation They will go home during the week-end or during holidays. Each middle and high school usually have a student home (foyer) where the students will be able to heat up their own foods or buy some snaks around 7 AM, during their free times or at noon.

My most distinct memory of Code Lyoko is being in grade school and our teacher asking us to come up with a name for each letter of the alphabet. We got stumped at Y, so I offered the name "Yumi" from this show and for some reason the teacher got really mad at me for suggesting a "fake name." But then at recess one of the girls in my class told me that she also watched the show and knew it was a real name. I got socially embarrassed but it did mean that my crush talked to me lol

I loved Code Lyoko as a kid! The tension and the fact that they could really get hurt/die always had me at the edge of my seat. I remember Jeremy going into lyoko maybe once, but that was probably it. Also the love triangle was pretty juicy to like 7 year old me. A lot of the characters grow on you, even if you think they're annoying at first. Hearing just the instrumental to the theme song was super nostalgic for me!

This show was top tier back in the day. And I feel like you can definitely see that it inspired a lot of Miraculous Ladybug. Odd and Cat Noir, Sissy and Chloe, etc. Both being French anime-inspired kid’s cartoons with 3D animation certainly helps the comparison, though.

@ThatRipOff2 жыл бұрын
@@MimzyKuppycakez Just make sure you temper your expectations. When it’s good, it’s great. There are a lot of fun ideas and interesting plot points throughout the show. But you can definitely tell they had a lot of pressure from higher-ups to dumb it down for “muh kid’s show.” A lot of character development getting reset, episodic stories covering the same old tracks, dragging out certain plot lines way too long, and mind-numbing moral lessons. But if you can get past that, it’s worth the watch. When it’s at its best, it’s amazing. But at its worst it’s never horrible or fully unwatchable apart from a few really bad episodes.

I freaking love this show. It's probably the show that got me into TV. It's really dark, the humor is on-point (seriously, these kids are absolute roast masters), the soundtrack is amazing, the character dynamics are perfect, and they'll just randomly bring up bits of continuity from previous episodes, which I LOVE. You never know when Paco the King of Disco will be mentioned, and there's a multi-episode arc spanning multiple seasons about Aelita embracing her passion for music. How often does that happen?
