My mom made me call a radio station and request this song once. The deejay asked me how old I was and I told him 13, and he said "And you're calling to request that dirty song?" When he got back on the radio he said my name and then "I don't know about these 13 yr olds anymore!" That was 33 years ago and I still love this song. Thanks, Mom!

I'm 49 yrs old now & these classics from the 70s are SO GREAT!!! I remember riding around with my dad when I was around 9 yrs old in 1978 in Dothan Alabama in a 1972 Chevy C/10 L.W.B. p/u truck...307 V8...3spd on the column...no a/c...both windows rolled down. We would ride down old country back roads & listen to the country classics of the 70s on his 8-Track. I remember him telling me..."one day I'm gonna give you this truck"...in 1985 when I was 16 I got that old truck & was so PROUD of it. I drove it to high school in 85-86. I really miss that old truck but I miss my dad even more!!!!

A #1 hit for Billie Jo Spears on the Country & Western charts. It was the 336th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #2 on the Canadian C&W charts and #6 in the United Kingdom. It would be the only #1 of her career. My cousin had a large C&W record collection and her version of Harper Valley PTA was one of them.

I played this song to my beloved, after 20yrs, and an ensuing separation, we'd grown tired of each other and apart. Then my brother (her favorite sibling of mine) was killed in a car wreck.(just one week after my father died from a fall in the hospital). I played her the song again. We're STILL hangin-together, and back in good graces. That song (and my Father & brother's death) saved our relationship!

this song is just outstanding. she was a true country music artist. She did not need to have every note she sang way up in the sky like some of the new gals. its the dynamics that mean more in a voice. she sure had it all. plus the muisc arrangment on this is just unbelievable. studio and live. damn, I wish they would record like this again, and I'm fairly a young guy of 30. country music is disapearing due to promotion to sell to the youngest tiny poppers who mainly listen to pop radio.
@tracykingston96688 жыл бұрын
100% correct. After the 80s it went downhill. seems like the material on the radio is aimed at teenyboppers in the last 20 years or so, done by faux, wannabe, so called country bands. a few exceptions of course. That is why I don't listen to any radio station. Thank goodness for youtube.
