Right to equality . Very clever point. Society it is deeply embedded ,that girl should of lower age ,lower height than men. In fact man mostly prefer a working woman ,who is working below his position.

18 age is correct. If age increase 21 there parents suffering economily. Because all parents are not rich. Some families daily wase earnners and women's workers

Women have a major role play in the society building but that doesn't mean that they have nothing to do with economic environment . Today numbers of women are participating in workforce is just because the society is changing today but unfortunate thing is that there are many places especially villages where women are still confined to primary standard and parents even starts talking about their marraige even at the time they are born . With the passage of time we improves in this concern but its root are still unaddressed. Recently the govt has come up with an amendment on legal age of girls marraige to 21 which was 18 years of age before and 15 years before that as well. With the time we are acknowledging the importance of women education in structural shift in society . The data today shows that more than 20 percent of girls having age 20 to 24 were married before 18 years of age plus we know there are many health related concern like high blood pressure , maternal mortality , damaged organs etc are attached with early marriage and thus the amendment is need of the hour. But is it true that we have achieved banning marriage of women having less than 18 years of age ? The answer is no. Poverty , domestic violence in poor households , lack of monetary support for higher education , dowry etc forces girls marraige at the early age and that is something need to be addressed rather than just talking about legal and illigal things. Overall, things will only be legal if its implimentation is done well otherwise nothing will achieve. And implementation doesn't mean forcing but sorting out the reason behind this is the prior thing and take things upward for sure.

We know in the fast moving world in addition to hefty demand for education course hiked the cost of education and thats what govt must look at by encouraging public sector affordable and quality schools and colleges for these sections and in addition to this the govt can give financial incentives to these people to not only get their life on track but make sure that their children dont lack education due to monetary problems. Delhi schools are very great example of this....

I totally disagree with the last point made by dr khan as marriage is essentially 'not' a social contract...and its one lifetime decision(love, emotion, relatives, and being part of a family and society is not like changing clothes everyday) so you have to take this decision very carefully And elders help their children in taking that once in a lifetime decision. But since, we are relating so called 'women empowerment' with 'women should take decision for their marriages', then we decided that 18->21 to be the right age the girl will be capable of taking that once in a lifetime decision and parents will not be able to force their decision on them( for that we need legal measure and this law provides that) and also, she might be financially independent till that age and so she could bear the consequences of that decision.

child marriage is ban since independence by law but do that happen law can change nothing unless and until there is no proper measure in health, education, and safety in my village people are very poor there is a school till class 10th but school is run by only 4 teacher that is also on samvida for class 11th and 12th one need to travel 15 km and for college we need to go to district which is 60 km away here after 10th people send there son away for doing majdoori and because they can't send their daughter for majdoori so they marry them some get married before 18 some after 18 and even boys do get married by 20-21

Why adultery (extra marital) in marriage isnt prohibited ? Why prostitution isnt prohibited Why live in relationships isnt prohibited Child marriage is wrong but live in relationships, extra marital affairs, children leaving their parents in old age are noble acts ? Ppl might say live in relationships is their decision so child marriage too is decision of parents Why children kicking out their old parents dont get punished by this andha kanoon? 😠

So true mam. These people think they are empowering women they are actually laying foundation for exploitation of women . I have a cousin sister in law who got married at 22. She continued to persue her education so is her husband . So marriage isn't a problem if both are ready to continue studies and even they have a son now and still my cousin isn't doing a job but pursuing PhD . So I think getting married isn't a deterrent . The real deterrent is to stop women from pursuing education after they get married. Also is this empowerment that a woman has to earn her living by selling her body on a daily basis These things are extremely disgraceful towards women
