I know this video is 5 yrs old, but I just picked my first lock after watching this. A girl at my work locked her purse and belongings inside a metal cabinet and lost her key. This was a skill I learned as a kid. I was given a locked box on the premise that I had to get it open. It took me about 2 hours to pick it, I did not know how useful the skill would prove at the time. As an adult I rarely worry about losing keys, picks can be made from darn near anything. And If I cant pick it, a can of freon and a punch will make quick work of it.

Important to note that there is a trade-off between the methods. Raking is quite easy, and decently quick, but it can result in side-loading the pins, leading to lock degradation after repeated attempts. Picking them individually is slower and takes more skill, but it only uses vertical pressure on the pins, meaning that if it's done right, there should be no damage whatsoever to any lock. Both of them are fine for practice locks, but I'd recommend the latter for if you are trying to enter your house after losing the keys. also, keep an eye out for spool pins and other defensive mechanisms, as they can lead to a false set and require you to reset the lock. It can take quite a bit of finesse, but definitely possible.

When my neighbor was taking out their trash it was full of stuff but one thing caught my eye and it was a ps5 box. I just watched your video for the first time and only one time did exactly what you showed and I was able to pick my master lock that I had on my bicycle in about 3 minutes! I have never picked a lot before in my life and I am amazed at how easy this was. I used to lock my bicycle up with this now I realize anybody could have just stole it anyway! Lockpicking is something I'm just starting to get into. I'm wondering what type of lock you would recommend to put on my bicycle that might be a little bit more difficult for somebody to pick? The one thing I learned from the Lockpickinglawyer is that Master Lock could as well just not need a key to open it and would be as much useful.

The only way to prevent having your bike stolen is by selling it asap and buying a car instead, then you insure it and it'll take about 2 weeks till someone will steal it from ya and take it out of the country overnight. So might aswell catch the train or whatever, it's safer

I tried this for the heck of it, and it's actually easier to me than using my pick set. Plus, it's a relief to not have to worry about bending a tension wrench since I can just make another. I've found that wrapping the handles in electrical tape makes the picks and wrench more durable and easier to handle, but still works great without. Tension wrench works a lot better if you twist the handle of it, as well.
