Didn't exactly look like a good fit at the top. Would prefer to use traditional chisel methods for more control.

@@brettjones5361 Yeah, I'm old school, but understand new technology and palm routers are now available. This however in my opinion is a toll that a DIYer would be fooled into buying.

How did you cut the hole this fits into? My doors are all cut with circular bores at least an 1/8" smaller than the Ryobi tool uses, so it won't fit!

A good tool but practice first on an old door if you have one. It can chip the door - my wife was not happy with that....

Over 2 years locksmithing I never knew these were a thing. This will save so much overall time with fresh installs. I like to think I’m good at making strike holes but this will be so much cleaner than a hammer and chisel. Especially for that price! Nice 👍

If you're a locksmith installing locks on doors, this definitely is not the tool to use for the bolt or strike plate.

@Bdougs Жыл бұрын
@@masterbaits1 I believe it. Any suggestions? All in all this ryobi tool I still use at least for standard wooden doors. And aside from a handful of doors in a year, it’s done pretty decent work. Some doors looking factory finished. So anything better sounds great

6:28 rounded corners there 6:31 sharp corners appear, sneaky little bugger 😏🤭 Saw these on Amazon for a smidge over £23 and considered it but I prefer more accuracy, this seems a bit too inaccurate and I wonder how many whacks with a hammer it will take. It's definitely targeted squarely at the DIY market; so infrequent use, but I always feel like the design is half hearted and with a bit more time spent refining you'd have a solid tool. It also baffles me why they don't make a Pro range for trade. Ultimately if you have a palm router, close cut with the router and chisel to a perfect fit, remember, "sharp chisels cut, blunt chisels crush" 🤗

Great video! So I did my first interior door last night (6 more to go) and I used this tool based on your video.. Hopefully door #2 goes smoother, but the issue I had is when on the first step of striking the tool with a hammer several times on each side, it didn't imprint deep at all in the wood like yours did. It's like the latch section was too big to fit in my pre-drilled hole so it wasn't able to go deeply enough. The hole I bore was 7/8". Is the latch on the tool meant for a 1" hole maybe? Or what am I doing wrong where I didn't get a great imprint in the wood? Thanks!
@billshowto Жыл бұрын
Hi, it’s a 25mm hole 👍
@ARCAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@billshowto So I need a 25mm bit? I had read the hole to bore for the latch was 7/8". Not sure where I saw that. Guess they are very close, but that does sound like the issue! :-)

What you have'nt shown is that the latch is now further back in the door so the spindle that goes through the door to connect the handles is further back so you will need to reset the handle positions.
@evanstrain58082 жыл бұрын
There should still be plenty of room without adjusting anything, it only moves it an eighth of an inch. The only issue you would have is , if the door was originally painted with the hardware on you would see a bit of unpainted slab from the original mounting position.

I can confirm, I just tried this tool because I need to do several doors and didn't want to buy chisels because I messed up badly the first door I did with a chisel I borrowed. Maybe the next one will go better once I know how to use the tool properly, but it was really really rough. Splintered and cracked the wood above and below the chisel area. I think I didn't hit it hard enough on the first part, but I honestly hit it really hard Many times and didn't want to break anything. Thank goodness it's not something that will be seen a lot or looked at closely.
