One of my all time favorite movies!! All the actors chosen for the characters in this movie was absolutely perfect. They're so many movies that use actors that butcher the southern dialect, all these people really looked and sounded like they were from the location of the movie. I just love Lucas Black he was soo the character he played. Dwight, John Ritter, the band was great, but also the woman (I've never seen her in anything else, she was so good for this part)who played the mother was so authentic, of course Robert Duvall is one of my all time favorites, and of course Billy Bob was perfect. Superb!

I came for Billy Bob Thornton... but stayed for Billy Corgan... and didn't regret a minute of it. Corgan, "We have to have heroes. the culture out there is full of villains, but mythology tells us we have to have heroes". In 1997 Corgan saw aspects of the downfall of Western civilization we've been experiencing the past decade. I never knew how bright he was/is.

I'll add it's not just Karl Childers character that resonates and ages like wine. Sling Blade is small-town, working-class, slow-paced, south, populated with nice people. The psychiatrist, the mechanic shop owner, the single mom, Frank the boy... then you get the characters: the band members, the Frosty-Cream clerk, the Dollar-Store lady... It truly takes you to a different place and time. It's a masterpiece independent film and will always be in my personal top-10.

The reason being the movie hits the spot for me is the majority of the people were southern or at least from Texas. Growing up I knew people who had the speach patterns and the mmmmhmmm and would say things like if I don't give out first and knew a elderly couple who wouldnt let their adult mentally challenged son ride in the front of the pickup they drove even when they had room. And only a person who grew up southern and in the country could be Doyle that's people I knew from the when I'm hurting Linda to the get out my house and I'm under a lot of pressure at work. The whole bit. It's family members and I've played cards with JD Shellnut. Really got pulled over in high school with guys I played football with and told we got enough to put you boys under the jail now get yer asses home.

They didn’t mention half the cast. It was truly a star studded cast. J. T. Walsh, James Hampton, Natalie Canerday… Mickey Jones… on and on. They make it out to be this Indy film that was made with nothing…. But actually it was a star studded coming out party for Billy Bob.

The coralation between picking a jury and casting a movie are virtually the same thing. If you're client is innocent and your script is 1/2 good, the most important thing to "win" the audience or the case is in picking the right people.
