I saw Billy in his early days of touring when he came here to New Zealand. His show was at the old wellington town hall. I played the drums in a pipe band and we went on before him and played a couple of tunes to open his show so we got to watch afterwards. He was the only comedian I have ever seen that had people literally falling out their seats from laughing. I've been a massive fan ever since. Bought the recorded shows since they were on VHS,the books and the TV specials. Billy is the GOAT.

I like Billy, and sketches like this prove why. He comes up wit something seemingly simple and wildy ridiculous at the same time which just makes it hilarious. A window on a weapons grade submarine. Even with the glass technology and sealing we have now this would be insane, as well as rendering a lot of the stealth techcausing the crash to fail. The sheer impracticality is part of what makes the solution so appealing. The pick up the phone is similar to what should happen when you know there are other countries who use those waters for training. Boviously only giving the information to allies and not detailed paths, more general, we'll be playing in this part of the sandpit, you play somwhere else. I do remember the critique of the human element in one of the Iraqi wars. Apaches out on training exercise, too expensive to actually send into active battle, on their way back one of them wasn't recognised by the automated detection system so passed over to the human being. Time to make a decision 3 seconds at most, image too blurred for computer to recognise, maybe some sand kicked up and troop without knowedge of the impending return, erred on the side of paranoid, it being war and all, fired on the helicopter. I remember sayign at the time the issue was he'd not seen anything like that while monitoring the warzone so naturally fired on them, basically taking the mick out of the US making a weapon that cost to much to use as a weapon. In truth of course I felt for all involved, but that's not funny and humour helps cope with tragedy.

In 2010 the Brits launched their latest nuclear submarine HMS Astute. About a month before its launch there was a TV program where the Brit navy were bragging about its detection capabilities claiming it could detect a whale farting 200 nautical miles away.
