Love the back story about the French horror movie and finding out the lyrics in French, now I know this information. Such a great story behind this song. Seeing the lyrics on screen was neat.. he is kinda hard to understand. I saw him in a small concert back in the early 90's When you read the lyrics this is a pretty dark song.. love it!

Memories...Around 1980ish my brother and I were going to see the band RUSH at the "Forum" in Los Angeles. We had taken a rather large dose of LSD and parked behind a gas station a block away from the venue...This song came on as we were coming on...at the bridge...I snapped out of it just long enough to make it to the show...Thanks you Billy Idol.

Before starting to sing as Billy Idol he had a punk group called Generation X where he already sang Dancing with Myself, which he later included in his album as Billy, in case you are curious about what he sang when he was younger

Great song. Never knew the female back up singers were singing in French, I just figured I couldn’t understand the lyrics 😂. Everyone loves a good guitar solo, and this is no exception, but the bass, even though it’s a fairly simple bass line through most of the song, is the backbone to the song. Thanks for this. Brings back good memories 😎

I read somewhere that the song is about falling in love with a drug addict. He loved her for who she was but as he stared into her eyes he realized it was just a dream. She was nothing more than a junkie using him to get high. She was just eyes because her face was so numb from all the drugs she used. Hence why he despised her and calls her a human waste.

This song could be about heroin addiction. Notice the scene where he is putting a rubber band around his arm to make the veins pop out? But from Wikipedia it says... "n his memoir, Dancing with Myself, Idol explained he had always been fascinated with the titles of horror films, including the 1960 French film Les Yeux sans visage (Eyes Without a Face). The movie concerns a plastic surgeon who vowed to restore the face of his daughter who had been disfigured in a car accident, and this quest led him to murder victims and graft their facial features onto his daughter in an attempt to restore her beauty. By the end, all that remained of her original face was her eyes, thus making her "eyes without a face". Idol saw some parallel between the movie and the moral decay he experienced living in New York in the 1980s.[7] He said, I started to use "Eyes Without a Face" as a possible title/lyric/chorus for the song. I began to write words that, in some disguised form, spoke about my life in New York and a relationship gone wrong, on the edge of disintegrating into madness. Perhaps I was reflecting on my own touring infidelities. In a way, those can leave you feeling soulless, especially if you're already in a relationship that you value but are degrading by looking elsewhere for additional sexual kicks."
