I was not surpiised to see Billy get up from playing, you could seethe sentiment growing inside as he played it, i was glad that he went back and finished it off, i have never heard anythong that is so imotionally charged as this lullabye to his daughter, but what he sung was really loving and i think will stay with me all my life, ther is no other song that can touch this, and i doubt there ever will be its beautiful and says so much, thanks Biily!!!!

Lullaby (Good Night My Angel) By Billy Joel Goodnight my angel, time to close your eyes And save these questions for another day I think I know what you've been asking me I think you know what I've been trying to say I promised I would never leave you Then you should always know Wherever you may go, no matter where you are I never will be far away Goodnight my angel, now it's time to sleep And still so many things I want to say Remember all the songs you sang for me When we went sailing on an emerald bay And like a boat out on the ocean I'm rocking you to sleep The water's dark and deep, inside this ancient heart You'll always be a part of me Goodnight my angel, now it's time to dream And dream how wonderful your life will be Someday your child may cry, and if you sing this lullaby Then in your heart there will always be a part of me Someday we'll all be gone But lullabies go on and on They never die That's how you and I will be

I was surprised, in a very unexpected but good way, when he interrupted the song because he felt so emotional performing it. I don't blame him. This is such an amazingly beautiful song. It's hard not to relate to it, either as a parent, a child or anyone who carries love in their heart for other people. Thank you very much for this incredible gift, Mr. Joel.

When this song became popular, I was teaching middle school choir. And for several years in a row my graduating 9th graders using to sing this for their parents at their graduation ceremony. The parents cried, the staff cried, and even the kids cried! This song seemed to mark a point of passage for everyone who heard it! Thanks Billy for writing the most beautiful love song

Next month it'll be 9 years since I lost my dad to cancer. Having become a mum myself back in May has definately opened the wound of grief again, knowing how much he would have loved to have been a granddad, and how proud he would have been to see his girls (my sister and me) become parents ourselves. This song says it all, really...

This song is a beautiful way of saying that life is beautiful, and we should enjoy the little things in life because one day, we'll look back and realize they were the big things. I'll always listen to this song whenever I need a good cry. Thanks, Mr. Joel.

The longer version of the video: He couldn't finish the song, too emotional, reminded him of the breakup of his marriage and being away from his daughter...he walked off stage for a few minutes, recovered, and came back and finished the song for them...it took guts...the young audience knew it...but every one of them should have been on their feet at the end.

Yeah but also it's a live performance, doesn't have to play exactly the same as the studio version? Bear in mind he also probably hadn't played it in a while, without the music, and he mentioned it would be quite an emotional performance. He couldn't even get through it in one take... Not trying to change your mind necessarily, just saying that'd be contributing to what you heard.

It just feels so all over the place. Try singing along with it! I dunno, I just felt it REEALLLY took away from the beauty of the song. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this song, and I LOVE Billy Joel, I was just floored that he would mess with the timing like that. It didn't fit the mood of the song at all. And to be fair, Shatner's a pretty keen bean, it's not THAT harsh, is it? I love Shatner too. :D
