After that modulation on the last verse this song is SO freaking high, and Joel's all over it! He has such excellent timbre and complete control you don't even notice what an incredibly high voice he has. BTW, the music to the chorus was written by Beethoven, who gets a credit on the album. the original version was Karl Haas's theme for "Adventures in Fine Music."

@AmiMusicTree13 жыл бұрын
Some musical trivia - the theme from the chorus; ("this night is mine - it's only you and I - tomorrow is a long time away - this night can last forever") is taken from Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 Pathetique 2nd movement Op 13. He credits lovely Ludwig in the album notes. It's really a beautiful melody and I think Billy has done it justice with a successful borrow from an obviously inspiring composition.
@adamkraemer91932 жыл бұрын
In as far as the entire Innocent Man album was a nod to '50s and '60s songs, his use of a classical melody is (sort of) obviously an homage to "Lovers' Concerto" by The Toys (1965), which was basically a Bach minuet.

Billy was thinking in the mode of the 60's song "Lover's Concerto", which is based on a Bach Minuet. Since someone already copped a Bach melody, Billy figured he'd cop a Beethoven melody (and a very beautiful one at that!) The whole "Innocent Man" album is based on his favorite Motown and Stax albums from the 1960's.
