This is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. He took such a beautiful piece of classical music that's so powerful and added his own touch to it. It's a tribute to his talent and the lasting power of Beethoven's work.

Love this song. First time I saw Billy live in 1986 he closed the show with this same song. Amazing he still has the chops to sing it after all of these years.

As one who still has never seen BJ live in concert( although from Songs In The Attic to Last Concert At Shea - I'm there every time I play the live album or dvd) I say those are some lucky souls who get to see him & that band on the regular at MSG. He singing live in 2019 a deep album cut from 1983 off the greatest album that shows how much a vocal chameleon he truly is on every track- and he's hitting all the notes and making time stand still for 5+ minutes.

I think the guitarist was doubling his part
@danielcohen74914 жыл бұрын
@@micahlingle1060 Delguidice doubles billy in a lot of parts, mostly Uptown Girl (it was recorded like that but delguidice takes lead and billy can cut in and out as he pleases but he's normally in the mix fully). He also does it in songs like Big Man on Mulberry Street and The Downeaster Alexa. Billy still sings everything. Its actually a "back to album" sound, since a lot of the high vocals were doubled to create a "power" effect. Billy can hit everything his songs have to offer still, and occasionally when he's not feeling it, delguidice can double it. However, in this, its clear Delguidice is singing background. billys voice is distinct and right up front. Not in this case, no. He had a really good vocal night! If you want to hear him struggle, listen to "movin out" from Bonarroo in 2015. He just wasn't there that night and uptown girl from the same night has him really uncomfortable. They should have taken him lower in the mix tbh, he deserves to not have everyone hear him on his off nights... anyways thanks for coming to my TED Talk lol.

The drummer here, Chuck Burgi, is one of the greats. Check him out playing Beethoven’9th. On “Difficult to Cure” with Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow from the 80’s. Very gifted guy.

Here's an idea. We paid $500 each for these seats, and there's a musical legend on stage. Let's talk through the whole freaking song. Ugh.

True, he hardly ever sings it, and the last two times were both Valentine's Day or thereabouts, but I surmise he may do it at his concert on 9/10/21 in Cincinnati - the 20th anniversary of that eerily boring night that, in hindsight, every American alive last century surely wishes had lasted forever. (Conversely, on the oddly scheduled original concert date of 9/11/20, this song would have been as inappropriate as it gets!)
