This was the pinnacle of the Billy Joel Band. Liberty DeVitto (drums), Doug Stegmeyer (bass, vocals), Russell Javors (rhythm guitar, vocals), David Brown (lead guitar), David Lebolt (keyboards), Mark Rivera (sax).. Russell Javors's vocal parts with Billy at the breakdown and buildup at 4:55. So good.

Michael Grosvenor No doubt. The fallout between Billy and Liberty is quite a shame, as Chuck Bergi doesn't hold a candle to Lib. I like Mark on sax, but I also thought Richie was quite solid, too. you take this band and add the good pieces Billy has today (Dave Rosenthal, Mike Delguidice, Carl Fischer, and Crystal Taliefero), it's hard to imagine how awesome that band would be.

Lots of interesting facts about this song and The Nylon Curtain (mentioned in this thread). This may be my favorite BJ song, along with She's Right On Time, Vienna, and Scenes From an Italian Restaurant. I have seen BJ from the time he was playing solo at coffee houses until his last stadium tour. I took a 10 year hiatus (as he did)_ and saw him about five years ago during a New Years Eve performances in Ft. Lauderdale. He Played THIS SONG! I lost it completely. I saw him again a couple of years ago at Dodger Stadium and he played it again! I think he likes it as much as we do. Billy has that amazing talent to be able to sound like most tenor male singers. In the early days he used to cover songs in his set impersonating such singers as Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Cocker, Paul Simon, etc. He tells a story about Phil Ramone telling him that many of the vocals on The Nylon Curtain sound like John Lennon. (Laura, Scandinavian Skys, Goodnight Saigon). Billy said that it was unintentional, but at the time he was thinking a lot about Lennon and his genius.

From Zanzibar onwards, there is such a magical quality to the album. Rosalinda's Eyes feels like I'm watching him in a Puerto Rican band, then hanging out with Geo drinking cheap wine and from the final, rapturous moments of this song, we take a swarve, leisurely stroll down 52nd Street. It's such a gorgeous "listen in the dark" album...and wasn't it the first to be made into CD? Genius all round.

The last two times were in Philly in '97 and '99. The last time was special because he sang "An Innocent Man" and the stars must've been right and the Philly crowd which always have adored Billy and he them-- he hit the high note in Innocent Man, no stunt singer like he had started using around then when he didn't feel he could hit that note any more-- People were in tears, me included, knowing that there would not be many more people who would hear him do that live. Thanks for all the happiness, all the goosebumps, Billy.

This show is from 12/29/82. The complete concert on DVD is long overdue. The complete show was/is: 1. Allentown 2. My Life (w/the intro vamp…intro edited out of the video) 3. Prelude/Angry Young Man 4. Piano Man 5. Don't Ask Me Why *excluded from video 6. The Stranger 7. Scandinavian Skies 8. Movin' Out 9. She's Always A Woman * excluded from video 10. Pressure 11. Scenes From An Italian Restaurant 12. Just The Way You Are 13. Goodnight Saigon *excluded from video, but the performance was made into a video intercut w/concert footage and still photos of soldiers in Vietnam. 14. Stiletto *excluded from video 15. Until The Night*excluded from video 16. Still Rock And Roll To Me 17.Sometimes A Fantasy 18. Big Shot 19.You May Be Right 20. Only The Good Die Young 21. Where's The Orchestra *excluded from video 22. Souvenir and there's also the between song banter. All of that was cut from the video too.

Mike Rotch why did they omit Stiletto and Until the Night? Those were great songs! It’s like the US version of Revolver, it has serious holes.
