Jim was trained by Billy. Wrestlers are trained to pin you which is great but means nothing in a real fight. In fact, most of the Jujitsu players prefer to work from a pined position so that should tell you something. Billy Robinson learned his grappling from Billy Riley in the snakepit at Wigen England. He was a shoot fighter and a Hooker. These submission moves are strictly illegal in amateur wrestling and will get you disqualified in a match. Almost everybody was afraid of Billy especially those he trained because Billy was sadistic just as Thesz and Gotch were. When challenged they would get an almost sexual gleam in their eyes and they would get aroused. Billy liked to hurt people. Frank Gotch liked to hurt people. And don't fool yourself many wrestlers you think are nice guys have it in them and should not be fooled with. Jim Rashke was an awkward ex-college wrestler that was introduced to a form of wrestling he never trained in and didn't like. And Billy could hurt anyone at any time. Most of the Hookers were like that and policed the business for the promoters.

@@gopherstate777 in my opinion, if a pro wrestler is serious about their craft, then they need to learn how to defend themselves in the ring. You never know what's going to happen out there when you're half-naked. Usually just being athletic and strong will do the job for a fan who jumps you, hell the act of entering the ring itself is the window of opportunity to repel boarders, but to defend yourself against another wrestler mid-match is a different ballgame entirely. Suuuper old-school trainers like Gotch and Stu Hart would make sure you had been sufficiently stretched to hell and back before the work training began, and Stu did it to show that there's a better way. You can go out there and kill each other, or you can work together and make a match. Gotch trained Minoru Suzuki and that guy is intimidating by himself, but to also think that he probably has shoot training from Gotch makes him downright horrifying. Why do you think Regal is involved in the training of new WWE talent? He started off as a carny shooter in England, he had to make a living defending himself, and Triple H himself has shoot suplexed fans that stormed the ring on him, so the new boss understands the importance of self defense. Plus, it's foolish to think that Vince's top guys went to Saudi Arabia without some kind of "if shit gets real, here's what you should do" training.

If anything, a comment like that just makes Baron von Rashke look bad. Billy Robinson was trained by Billy Riley and Bob Robinson (aka Billy Joyce) in the art of Catch as Catch Can and freestyle wrestling. Billy Robinson was a revered “tough guy” in the business who was known as a real Shooter and Hooker. Before Billy went into Professional Wrestling, he competed in both Freestyle and CaCC. Billy won a few European Freestyle Wrestling championships in his day, including one where he defeated an Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Bronze Medalist. Billy was respected by guys like Lou Thesz, Karl Gotch, Danny Hodge, all the French Canadian wrestlers, Verne Gagne, etc. In Japan, Billy was looked at as one of the best wrestlers from the western world. He was placed as head coach of Snake Pit Japan to teach wrestling. Meanwhile the Japanese placed Lou Thezs and Danny Hodge as assistant coaches under Billy. Billy has coached Kazushi Sakuraba, Kyioshi Tamura, Josh Barnett, Erik Paulson, and the list goes on and on. Rick Flair and a number of pro wrestlers as well.
A very special message from Mr. Billy Robinson
