Discover bluegrass back in 1975. Got the privilege to see John Hartford, Earl Scruggs and so many others. I am definitely a sicophant of BS. Mourn the loss of Don Julian. He was the greatest mandolin player I ever saw! Ass, gas and grass forever!

Billy Springs is simply a young star born to perform magic music...a great artist who is humble enough to put his step dad in the forefront on a pedestal. Hat off son

Around the 22-23 minute mark Billy refers to a concert as being a "paid rehearsal", and then smiles that little knowing smile of his that we all know so well now. 🤣

Billy Strings stands with any player in bluegrass history for my money. When he solos , it is akin to a machine gun going off.
@tanyaraven94922 жыл бұрын
That's a whole lotta talent on that stage. I'm always impressed with Billy's ease with an audience and, in addition to his mad music skills, he has that killer smile. What a combo!

As gifted and amazing as Billy is, I really think, after watching about 25-30 videos, the mix of maturity & savvy with the free spirit,-60's & 70's influence of Don Julin, really helped give Billy the structure, the opportunities & some maturity to become a little more proficient at being in the public arena and playing for a wider audience. Would he be as successful as he is now, without Julin?? Sure, eventually, but Mr. Julin taught him the ropes & gave him driving lessons & a drivers license on the road to his current public presence & success.

All are wonderful musicians, with an extreme amount of energy. I'm a big fan of Martin guitars, I even own a few but the guitar Billy plays is the best sounding guitar I think I've ever heard. Really enjoy y'alls music, hope to see you live some day.
@danielmorris36876 жыл бұрын
Philstafford 1...have you heard the Preston Thompson guitars Billy has been playing for the last while? Thompson is a luthier out of Sisters, Oregon, I believe and he builds some sweet sounding flat tops too. I had never heard of his guitars until I saw Billy using one and I was blown away by the tone. Though I think Billy Strings could probably make a $100 guitar sound great. The young man is amazing.

How does Don stack up against Jarrod Walker, and was he ever given an opportunity to play with Billy's current lineup?
@Jay-lr3me2 жыл бұрын
I can’t answer that question but in my opinion Jarrod is one of the best mandolin players I’ve ever heard !
@wsmfp_42072 жыл бұрын
Don is an amazing player and I enjoyed seeing that duo for a handful of years, but he was to straight ahead and old school for billy. You could tell towards the end that Billy wanted to jam and expand the songs but Don wanted to wear a suit and tie and tie and play coffee houses. Once Billy found Billy Failing Don’s time playing with billy was pretty much over. He went through a handful of mandolin players and bassist over a 2-3 year period before he found his current lineup. It’s been an amazing journey following billy over the last 10 years or so
