I love hearing you play bluegrass that I grew up with. Brings back great memories of when my parents drug me to bluegrass festivals that I thought were terrible until it clicked. Music and the people…just the greatest. I loved hearing Mac Wiseman sing his songs. What a wonderful story teller of bluegrass. You are awesome Billy and I am amazed at your picking. Thanks for making bluegrass great again. ❤

I think we had the same childhood. That music never left me no matter where life led me. Billy Strings has given it new life.

Doing that thing you love to do most. And you do it so well. I dream of you playing in our living room in the Rockies outside of Aspen. You’d love it here.

The song was written by Utah Phillips, on his way home from Korea he got a dear John letter form his wife. He never recorded it because he said it was too bitter, but JD Crowe had a big hit out of it. Please check out his version.

Just listened to the J.D. Crowe version from that old album. His arrangement is followed very closely by a recording on Earl Scruggs’ “I saw the light with a little help from my friends” album. Vocals by Tracy Nelson and Linda Ronstadt… Absolutely stellar.

Growing up I had the fortune of living next to Tony Rice. I remember hearing him sing this on his back porch ever so often. It's one of my favorite tunes!
