I LOVE this movie so much! It was definitely slept on! As a mixed kid, who's parents were constantly told 'races don't mix', I loved seeing Ember and Wade's bond grow, and how Wade respected Ember's traditions and cultures. Saving the blue flame!!🥹 Also I loved that they had the male character be Water. My bf brought up the point that society is still very hard on men for crying and expressing those deeper emotions. So seeing Wade cry and express his feelings unapologetically was so refreshing for him to watch.

I don't care what anyone says. I loved this movie. It's honestly ONE of my favorites. I love it not because of the beauty, or the emotions it made me grow through, but because I kinda understand Ember. Now I don't have a temper or Asian. But I know what it feels like to try to be the best daughter. I'm the oldest of all of the kids and so because of that. I'm told what I needed to do. I had to graduate high school, go to college and graduate, get a job, help pay bills, and other things, take care of my younger siblings. And I was gonna do that, because that's what I been told to do. But after I did graduate high school, a part of me kinda didn't want to college. But when I brought that up. My family instead of saying "thats okay" or "well you don't have to go now, but you can later on" I was burned with questions. "Why don't you wanna go?", " i thought this was your future ", and so on and so forth. So I just smiled and went.. At first, everything was okay. But then.. I started to have panic attacks, I could barely sleep, I barely wanted to leave my room, and it kept getting worse to the point I missed a few weeks of school. Then.. I dropped out. Then I found out I had depression and anxiety/panic attacks. At first my family was telling me I needed to act grown and to just live with it or they'll say there's nothing I need to be anxious or depressed about. I mean some of my family doesn't really talk to me because of it. When I did drop out of college, it hurt so much when people I thought were always gonna be there for me, called me a disappointment or said they were disappointed. I mean even my own grandma told me to stop this act and to stop pretending. That hurt... A lot. Now I sometimes don't know what to do. I don't know if I want to do things for myself or to make my family proud again. Because my family are proud of my other sisters. The three youngest are going to school, the second oldest is working so hard, and the third oldest is having a baby. So I just feel as if... I'm letting them down. But I just want to be the best daughter. The best older sister. But I sometimes think, I'm not even the best sister.. It sucks. Now I'm crying writing this. It honestly felt good to let this out. Even if it was on a comment. 😭 Also the song at 20:41 when you asked who sings it. It's an artist named Lauv and the song is called "Steal The Show". Hes an amazing artist. I love all of his songs!

@leah4514 Жыл бұрын
You don't have to be the "perfect daughter/sister". No one is going to be that way. Be your loving true unapologetic self. They are used to being confined in a box, so you stepping out of that box intimidates them. This is your life. Im the oldest sister as well and had to learn that I am my own person that doesn't need to hold up their opinions just to feel accepted. You will find people who will love you regardless and no matter what part of your journey you're on. Idk if you're religious but God has given me the confidence to embody my true self and in return you'll attract those who will help you grow into that person. I wish you the best!
@doubledorkCrawf0rd Жыл бұрын
As an older sister I definitely relate to what you're saying about expectations, and I'm struggling right now between wanting to be dependable for my family and also wanting to be my own person and free myself from expectations... It helps to talk to my sisters about it, to realize that we all have our own perceptions of what is expected of us, and to gain acceptance from people of our generation for not wanting to fill certain roles...
@jadegibbs906110 ай бұрын
I’m also the oldest, and completely understand how tough expectations can be, I’m blessed for my mom for having supported me when I decided on a not so traditional career choice, but most of my extended family was very judgmental and disrespectful, and unsupportive, but I’ve realized sometimes you’re better off without them bc thats when you can finally find yourself and figure out what you love to do, I hope this advice helps, and I hope things get easier for you, lots of blessings I hope come your way

Elemental does a really good job showing the struggles of immigrant families without shoving it down your throat. My husband is a child of immigrants and this movie would hit way too close to home and way to hard for him to watch it. During the end credits, the film was initially going to depict Ember and Wade returning home with the reveal that *they had a baby made out of steam.* It was ultimately scrapped as the writers wanted the audience to settle with the characters first before such an idea would take hold.

I was confused about how they could touch, but now I think the reason is because they're being careful and not trying to overpower the other one. All the other interactions we saw between elements involved someone getting hurt because they weren't being considerate.

Love language - acts of service. Also saw this in theaters. I originally wasn't going to but I went with a group and I wished I had gone sooner because it was such a feel good movie. I love that song. (steal the show). So many good messages in this movie. Marketing for this movie and people just waiting for it to come on Disney + impacted people not seeing it in theaters. Wade is such a green flag as a partner or as a friend. As a child of immigrant parents I can really relate to Ember and also seeing how some people treat others who are immigrants with thick accents. Unknown to me growing up, others in our family were comparing their children to me (why can't you be like x?) which caused rivalries I wanted no part in. Meanwhile all my focus was on not disappointing my parents and it was a pressure I put on myself because as long as I tried my best they were happy. Hearing they were proud turned me into a puddle but the message about anger is something I'll try to keep in mind.

I missed out on this movie while it was in theaters so I watched it on Disney+ This movie really exceeded my expectations. Before it even came out, people were dismissing it for its premise and it was projected to be Pixar's worst opening weekend. And it was at first but they kept it in theaters and eventually it began a steady improvement in the box office. Honestly, I'm glad it did and I'm glad the creator of the movie Peter Sohn was able to tell the story he wanted to tell. This movie depicts a lot of things that immigrant communities often have to deal with like having to change their names, finding ways to preserve their culture in a new land, building their own communities in parts of cities that often have poorer infrastructure, and so much more. There are some minor gripes I have with the film overall but none of them come close to ruining my enjoyment of it.

They really nerfed this in the box office by how they marketed it. It gave zero hint as to what this is actually about so most people had little interest in seeing it. I'm loving how invested you are in this one lol. I think we're all surprised at how good Elemental turned out to be. I don't think the marketing team was not putting 100% into showing the film's thematic strengths, in the trailers....Like, from the promos, I knew it was cool abstract world (which we know Pixar can do well) and it was a romance... but nothing else about it's uniqueness, to draw me in y'know? I'm glad I did watch it, though.

I added "Steal the Show" to my Spotify. Such a great song that really captures Ember and Wade's blossoming romance. Thomas Newman's score for the film was also beautiful! Listening to the music as Wade took Ember to see the Vivisteria, and when they touched...ugh, beautiful. I haven't found a special man in my life yet, but I hope he will be just like Wade. His caring, kind, supporting, and sensitive nature (even the extreme side) makes him one of my favorite Pixar characters and I'd be lucky to have someone like him in my life. His resurrection definetly was the Disney part of the Pixar+Disney partnership. If Pixar was stand alone again that may not have been the case. I didn't mind it though. Him coming back by crying, one of his most recognizable traits, however was genius. I couldn't help but laugh and cry during that scene. I adored this movie and I hope more like it follow.

I’m not a person of colour, but I very much related to Ember. My family both went through a lot as a kid, especially my mum, and I constantly feel like I have to do better and have to be perfect, I have to live a good life because those I love couldn’t, and it doesn’t matter what I want. It took me a long time to accept that I deserve my own life, and I still struggle with it. Ember and her story meant so much to me, but so did Wade. His story and his experiences were also relatable. Just an amazing movie all around. The art, the story, the characters, the message. Fantastic and didn’t get as much attention as it deserved. I saw it in theatres but went into it with low expectations cause of the bad advertising (focusing on Clod and not actually talking about the story) but cried by the ending. Truly a wonderful movie.

I love this movie, it’s cute, short and gets to the point. The animation is really nice and the humor and message is amazing. A lot of people think this movie is a romance movie and while that is a part of it; the main message of family is huge and the main focal point. There’s a documentary in Disney plus of the guy that made this movie and the movie is inspired by his own life and his Korean father moving to New York and opening a grocery store and how the son wanted to pursue art as a job and there’s the typical “art is not a real job” thought with his dad and it’s really cool to actually see where the concepts came from. :)

1. The reason Ember and Wade are able to touch is because of a real-life scientific phenomenon known as the Leidnefrost effect which is when water like Wade touches a hot surface like Ember which creates a layer of steam like the one you see when they first touch that acts as an insulator for Wade, preventing him from vaporizing and by extension, Ember from extinguishing. 2. Wade was able to light the stick during the matchmaking test because he used his body as a lens to focus the light from Ember onto the stick to set it on fire. 3. I can understand that Ember's conflict can seem stupid and unnecessary from an outsiders point of view but for child of Asian immigrant parents, this is a very real conflict and it's not that easy to communicate to your parents that you don't want to do what they want you to do because from their perspective, there are only two options a) Follow your dreams and disappoint your parents, living a life of guilt, b) Don't follow your dreams and make your parents happy, living a life of regret.

@27:28 a good alternative to Embers Mom knowing when "someone is watering her down?" could be when someone is helping Ember "to go with the flow".

I felt like Disney did well with this movie, thanks for reacting to this. I love Ember and Wade are sweet together. The animation, the story, and the jokes are everything

supposedly at the end they were going to show their child which was a steam baby, but decided to wait - maybe for a sequel :P

I started to watch it, mostly because it was like, "Okay, it's a Disney movie I haven't seen yet, but meh...we'll see how it is." Turned out that I absolutely LOVED it! Definitely came out of nowhere, at me, and is one of my favorite movies of theirs, now.
