I had to totally re-learn how to laugh because of Billy Connolly. My old way of laughing was just too painful when he was performing, and I felt as though I was going to do myself some serious damage. Now I laugh from the diaphragm - much safer. 😂🤣

Thank you for every story, every world tour, every record, every show, every moment you've spent bringing laughter and happiness into this world. Several of us were crashing over at a friend's place one night after a drinking session, and I woke up early because of the light and found myself, on the floor, next to the stereo. Everyone else was fast asleep. This was before mobile phones or internet (about 1988), so the only thing to do was listen to a tape on the stereo. I found some headphones there and looked through the tapes. I'd grown up without TV, but I'd heard of Billy Connolly and there was a tape by him. So I plugged the headphones in and listened to it, chuckling silently to myself so as not to disturb anyone else. That was, until I got to 'Ivan the Terrible'. I involuntarily laughed so hard I woke everyone else up. Mr Popular I was not.

Rolled over and watched the ghost of my dad walk by my bed from foot to head and right through my bedroom wall... 58 now and the memory is as vividly seared into my mind as it was the night it happened. I have no doubt I could pass a polygraph with ease. Dad died 40 years later.... THEY DON'T FUCKING EXIST! Saw him live, I was glad when he went off stage, I had no energy left from laughing so much. Billy, Dave Allen and Ronnie Barker - unparalleled comedy. My Mum thought Billy had a "filthy mouth", but came close to piddling herself whenever he was on telly anyway.

This is pretty impressive, though the material would not come across in a transcript. This man has amazing charisma. I thought that he was tied with Patrick McGoohan for best Columbo Villain in the revived version. Subtle acting touches. At the end, ever the good sport he asks: "Mr. Columbo, can you recommend a prison with a good music programme"? And his distinct resemblance to John Cleese made me reflect on what a brilliant Columbo Villain Cleese would have made. Columbo vs. Basil Fawlty. Maybe he finally Jack Lemon'd his wife...

2:05 - This applies even more to Most Haunted now in 2022. A show which has now become a parody of itself. They are now relegated to their KZbin channel, as no respectable TV station wishes to be associated with them anymore after a decade or more of blatant fakery by their own production team, including Karl Beattie, who likes to throw knives around pretending it was a ghost who did it.

The most haunted episode that made me laugh out loud was the one in Venice. The presenters were in a small boat on the Venetian lagoon. The asked the spirits of the lagoon (in English) to knock underneath the boat. The ‘spirits’ obliged, maybe they were English spirits or maybe when you are a spirit you become multilingual!

@@junemoses5359 I remember the one where Derek Acorah and the Most Haunted team ended up in Egypt and Derek got "possessed" by an Egyptian high priest who spoke remarkably good English, not bad considering the priest in question had been dead for well over 2000 years. It was cringe worthy and you could see the museum curator wasn't remotely impressed with his bullshit.

I've had the 'a certain energy between us' line trotted out before more than a few times so allow your dear ol' Aunty Jenna to expand just a bit on what you do in those situations... after you slap them, hit them harder and run for the hills, possibly getting someone with a mental health care degree to go deal with the speaker too. Nothing good comes out of a line like that. Best case, it's a creep who is using a line that makes your skin crawl and should be scraped off their rock and tossed back into the sea - worst case, it ends with them explaining that energy is why they feel safe telling you how they really are vampires and know you connect throughout the ages. (And yes. I've had that happen. Still more normal than the guy who thought he was a werewolf hitting on me by telling me about his axe collection. While I sat on my husband's LAP and quietly prayed for an adult to come and rescue me. And no. I'm not kidding. Sigh. And no, it wasn't a halloween party. Different places/times. Both dead serious. I just wanted them to be dead. Seriously.) Harmless twat or nutjob that wants to wear your skin - they both need help above your paygrade, so run and hope the dumpster fire they are can be put out by someone else. ~shuder~
