You realise all good comedy has the same principles right? Watch enough comedians and youll soon find out almost every single one of them borrow premises or ideas from previous comedians, its only really when you get the learys of the world it is a problem, where they literally steal entire shows along with mannerisms and deliveries, a comedian using their heroes work as a base for their own shouldnt ever be a problem, thats how life works, we build on what we were given and pass it on If later day comedians didnt use material from older people or shows those jokes/premises/ideas would be lost to time, at least new generations have the chance to feel about something the way someone else did years before

I love how he just talks, and tells stories... basically just acts like himself. It's so genuine, not like these carefully scripted acts performed by so many other stage personalities. I love how sometimes, he appreciates the absurdity of what he's saying and cracks himself up, even live on stage. There's no bullshit, and it's so unique and endearing and sincere, and thus, hilarious. Truly, Billy is your friend, the kind you just enjoy hanging out together.
@sandragustafsson31253 жыл бұрын
That's what I love too! He's said in interviews that he never writes a script for his shows. He just goes on stage and talks about whatever comes to him, because when he first started he thought that everybody did that. He didn't think anybody wrote a script. So when he found out most comedians and showmen wrote scripts for their shows, he was quite surprised. But since his method worked he essentially said "Fuck it" and carried on. x)

Billy Connolly has been FULL ON right from the very beginning. Both my late parents were Glasgow born and bred (many rellies in Scotland) but moved to Australia a few years after WW2 and married here. On one of our numerous trips 'back hame' tae visit the 'ain folk' in the early 70's, one of my uncles gave my dad one of these reel to reel tapes (reel to reel tapes were all the go back then) which had on it a bootleg recording of this comedian who had recently just burst on to the scene (it was Connolly), and at that stage very, very few people had heard of him. Upon returning to Australia, I put the tape on one afternoon for a few of my High School mates that were around and said, Just listen to this guy, will ya?! Within minutes all of them were rolling on the floor clutching their sides, just about breathless, and almost urinating themselves with laughter. He's definitely one of the best stand up comedians ever.

Worked as a manager in Waterstones and we used to call the Mind Body and Spirit table the Woo Woo section. My day was made complete when one woman walked in clad in the ubiquitous caftan and sandals, swung a crystal pendulum over the table and waited for it to settle, whereupon she then purchased the book immediately below where it stopped. Which, unsurprisingly, happened to be the one directly below her hand. Obviously as mad as a box of frogs...
