Master class in drag application. From applying enough via the reel to slow it down early, to immediately backing off the drag a bit with so much line in the water (more drag with so much line in the water), to adding more drag strategically by pressing the line down on the rod with your thumb as you lifted. Billy, there is a story from the West Coast of North America, north of where I live, in Alaska actually. The story is about 60 years old, and involves a halibut which revealed itself to be feeding under the pier in front of a fish processing plant. A heavy line and massive bait were deployed. The fish took the bait and fought predictably on the extremely heavy line. Many men helped fight the fish and eventually the line was tied to a big truck and the fish dragged up the cement boat launch ramp. I was said to be more than 900 pounds. Your video brought that story back to my mind......

It wasn't uncommon for us to catch Halibut right off the docks at some of the hatcheries I worked at in Alaska. Never saw one 900lbs though. Biggest I ever saw was about 425lb.

I'll definitely call that a win. Respect for the fish. We all got to see it. And you didn't end up in the drink. People who have tied into large Chinook salmon from the bank of a river know how dangerous it can be, especially if you get spooled. With a monster like that, one slip, or getting tangled in you're own line and your going for a swim. Glad to watch it and know you're not at the bottom of the fjord because your channel is wonderful entertainment

Wow....I never thought watching halibut fishing from shore in bad weather could be this exciting. I have chased halibut all my life on the west coast USA so I know how they act when hooked. Although I have made some creative bait bundles yours was a work of art. I have been fishing from boats now for the last 30 years but I remember my old shore fishing days well.
