I’ve had my son write himself a letter once a year since he turned 10 & he’s 13 now. He seals them and I box em up. I will give them to him when he’s much older 💖 Wish my parents would of had me do it. What a wonderful gift!

Man...bro...this hits me. I would tell myself to be more patient with my Dad. He was in a motorized wheelchair at the time, and I was having to do a lot of the yard work and other stuff, and as a teenage boy, I just wanted to go out with my friends. I would give him hell, and be so selfish. When I got older, I realized he was teaching me, and making me a better person. I'm just glad I learned it and was able to tell him before he passed 2 years ago from ALS. Much love brother.

I would have written: I know it's hard right now. I know the bullying seems like it will never stop. But I swear it gets better. You get to leave that small, close minded town and never look back. You get to see so much of the world you never imagined you would. And it's still hard sometimes but you're strong enough and smart enough to make it through. Also, don't listen to what that awful teacher said. She's bad at her job, and you're more than smart enough for college. The diploma on my wall and membership in a college honors society is proof of that. PS. Hug Mama Dorothy every chance you get. And Lucky.

My Grandfather and Brad's Grandfather worked together! It was Brad's Grandfather who taught him how to play the guitar. My parents and Brad's parents went to school together at Union High School in West Virginia. Brad's Dad Doug was always so supportive of Brad as he worked hard in his early years, even driving his bus. He has a wonderful family who gives him loving support. I went to school with Brad & knew him through there and my parents. I moved away but was extremely proud when he became so successful! In Glendale WV were Brad is from it now says " Welcome To Glendale Home Of Brad Paisley" The street he lived on growing up is also named Brad Paisley boulevard. I honestly can't think of anyone from his hometown or home State who isn't proud of him! I wish him nothing but the best and continued success and happiness for his family! He and his wife are really good people who do for others and they are loving and kind people. Something that is needed in this world. When this song came out is was nice to see a glimpse of the High School I once went too! I ended up moving and graduating at another High School but Johm Marshall and the Years I was there will always be in my heart ❤

I'm only a couple years out of high school but some things that I know already that I'd write to myself at 17 is to be less shy and to push myself more in sports and to not take them for granted, because it really did go by too fast. The line “P.S. go hug Aunt Rita every chance you can” really gets to me. My senior year of high school so when I was 17-18, I went to five different funerals. There were a few that were getting older and we were kind of expecting it, and a few that were complete shocks to us. I went to a few my junior year too. It was a really rough time for me. This song has always been one that has gotten to me. Billy, I don’t know if you’ve done “When I Get Where I’m Going” by Brad Paisley ft. Dolly Parton yet, but I highly suggest that one.

I would tell me myself to slow down and take in every moment especially with my Papa (Dad). I would tell myself don't to be impatient in love and don't worry about it. That it would find me when I was ready. I would tell myself to not take every thing so serious, I would have went to a few more parties, and skipped school a few times. I would tell myself one day I would have two people (daughters) who would love me unconditionally through it all. I would tell myself that life would be sweeter on the back side to never give up on my dreams and always stay positive. Most importantly I would tell myself to love MYSELF more.

I took german for 7 years throughout middle school and high school, now I’m in college going for a minor in it (where I live is predominantly German heritage so there are lots of cultural influences and resources available to me). I had the opportunity to go study there for a month with a host family that treated me like their own daughter, and I made friendships across the world that will last forever. Even though I didn’t realize it then, looking back it’s one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Thank you for doing this one. I am class of ‘89 so can definitely relate to the words of hindsight wisdom. I guess it’s good I can’t write that letter to myself because that butterfly effect would definitely be going as it would be difficult to knowingly allow some of the scarring moments in my life occur happen. But if they didn’t, I wouldn’t be where I am and of benefit to others for those character building moments. But I do try to do the next best thing, and attempt to pass on my “letter” to my mini me’s, aka my children. Lol! Would like to say it was always successful, but I sure try. 😊

Don't listen to the ones who expect you to go back to normal, because there is no normal after that. Go see the school counselor when you need to, and actually listen because she knows what she's talking about. Go out with your best friends and keep enjoying life. It's what Mama would have wanted. If I were to write a letter to myself it would say a lot of things but mostly focus on some of the hard times i have had since then: grandparents passing, best friends of 20 + years deserting you, and dealing with the state illegally interfearing with your home life--all that can really mess with anyone's head. But when you have severe depression and axiety on top of those things..it can be really hard to want to get out of bed some mornings. My letter would just remind me that I will be ok and that everything happens for a reason. (Now, knowing my younger self--I'd take precautions so that at least some of the mentioned events wouldnt happen or at least wouldnt be as rough when they did, but I dont know of anyone who wouldnt try to keep bad things from happening in their future).
