It's a local term for a pondy type thing that hasn't always been there. Wigan council describe them as wetlands. :)

I spent quite a few years of my childhood in Warrington, particularly Birchwood and Culcheth. I remember going to Pennington Flash back then with my family. Seems like a lifetime ago now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Kieran 👍

Another great film Pity you never mention angling Pennington Flash / Leeds Liverpool Leigh Branch / Bridgewater canal.in Leigh are leased by Leigh Angling Association and has well as the many local anglers the water bring anglers from all around the UK and over the years anglers from Angers Abblette Angivene France cane over every two years from 1982 to enjoy the fishing and hospitality from Leigh Anglers fir a week Leigh a hotbed of anglers some of the Uk.greatest anglers are from Leigh Benny Ashurts and his son former World Champion and Engkand Captain Kevin Ashurst lived a stone thriw from the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Firs Lane near to Bickershaw Collery the Ashurts where also famous maggot breeders Ian Cunliffe President Leigh Angling Association

I remember the Golborne Pit disaster very well. The sole survivor [Brian] was from Garswood and received major burns to his body in the accident. Many years later he completed a marathon in Manchester despite his disabling conditions from the accident. Sadly, there was a movement to have his disability pension revoked as some believed a person with his disabilities could not complete a marathon and qualify for DSS pension.

@@BimblismUK Yes agreed, but it's important to be fairly spacific as the oposite side is mostly a nature reserve and that's where people have started to go in from.
