We just bought a 25’ Yamaha jet boat, and it’s videos like these that keep this dream alive for me. Our boat has five hours on it now, can’t wait to complete the shakedown and make this trip!!

You did a great job on this. I wish more videos were like this; not a bunch of commentary, just great views of Bimini and the crossing.

Thanks Dave. I watched countless videos prior to my trip, and often felt something was missing. I made a video based on what I always wanted to see. Glad you liked it.

28mph - 31 mph. You loose a little speed in the gulf-stream.

Any advice for someone planning their first bimini run? Looking at doing this in the Spring or early next Summer. With a 22' CC.

Hey Matt. I would plan on making the trip in the summer months for your first time. It's pretty fool-proof for the most part during June, July, and August. You can plan a longer weather window, for your trip over and the return. I would factor in two days flexibility with your depart and return dates, and make sure your crew are all ok with that. Good or bad weather may require you to leave two days early or two days late. It's important you have spare parts, nothing serious as you should have your boat serviced, and looked over a month or two prior to the trip, but little things like impellers are good to have. I think a great peace of mind is having good life saving equipment and redundant systems. I would recommend the Garmin Inreach Mini. It's a satellite receiver that can be controlled with your smart phone or directly through the device. It tracks/pings your location every 5-10 minutes and shares it with loved ones. It also allows you to receive weather information, send emails and texts anywhere in the world. I would also get an EPIRB or PLB, in the event you are taking on water and need to be rescued, and do not have the time to try and contact help. A redundant VHF and handheld navigation in a ditch bag would be important to have as well. I could go on for ever, but I think this is a good start to answering your question. I hope you visit the Bahamas, its a beautiful place and worth all the planning.

I’m going on July 11 to 17 on a formula 40 and my friend on a Monterey 335 any advise?
@frankvanamburgh38933 жыл бұрын
I’ve replied to this twice. KZbin isn’t saving my responses, so sorry for the delay. My original response was much more detailed. I sold this boat, and bought a 2016 Formula 45 Yacht, M/Y “Prosecco.” If you see me say Hi. My only advice is that planning is key. That means, having your boat looked over by a mechanic. Ask your mechanic about spare parts and tools to bring. Sometimes the smallest thing can break, and having a silly part or tool can make or break the trip. Look at me, my anchor swivel broke, and lost my anchor. Thankfully I had an angle grinder and a spare anchor swivel and I was back in action. Spares will vary by boat, so ask your mechanic.

Frank what kind of spend did you make going across
@VanamburghProperties3 жыл бұрын
Hey Derrick, if you're asking how much did it cost to make the trip across, and back, I calculated 68 gallons each way. I maybe spent 700.00 in fuel (keep in mind covid made fuel very cheap back then) including the crossing to and back from bimini, and my time cruising around over the 5 days I was there.
