This is very much appreciated, coming from a mechanic since 1972. You're a natural instructor. Its a pity manufacturers and dealers didn't do the same. Education is not given reely by the powers of the elite.Suffer them for it. Regards Keith

Thank You for the Vid. I actually had the ccv/pcv problem on my 2001 E53 X5 4.4. There are so many videos on the 4.4 engine but they mostly seem to be of the cars instead of the x series. My ccv valve is different than the 7 series everyone shows. Anyway, when I removed it, the small vac line toward the bottom and on the neck of the valve was broken. Your vid showed me where it went, to the oil pan along with bottom hose from the separator. It didn't make life easier as I then had to remove the intake to access it and do it properly instead of bypassing or improvising. Your video DID show me what I desperately needed to know in order to fix it the right way and solve a couple more problems than just the ccv problem I started with. I love my old beemer and work hard to keep her ticking. I like to think I am a fairly good mechanic but have owned American vehicles most my life. All have their ups and downs but beyond their gremlins Beemers are well built machines. Thanks again for taking the time to help others.

Please, if I could get a little guidance regarding camshaft sprocket installation. I've been watching your post on You Tube. All is ready for installing the sprockets. TDC locking pin in place #1 compression stroke, cams are locked. Is there a alignment mark procedure for intake and exhaust sprockets or do I just need to install them, torque them and use the special tool to set up the VANOS? Including continuity. Thank you.

Great video as always. I learned a lot here. Now here is my question. What are those two oval shaped things leaking oil that you mentioned at 6:00 minute time? Now I know. It is "Gasket / Flange For Vanos Solenoid 11 14 1 435 023"

The truck cut off while my wife was driving, she said that there was a strong smell of fuel. Got it towed replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay but still won't start! If I spray starter fluid in the air box it will start right up but as soon as it evaporates the engine dies! Please help

What is the sensor on the bottom of the alternator called?? I have a 2001 bmw x5 4.4 and it is leaking from the water cooled alternator sensor
@bimmermerchant11 жыл бұрын
If your loosing coolant from the alternator housing then your need to replace your gasket. If you are refering to a black sensor located on top of the transmission cooler box then its the voltage regulator and you need to replace some O-rings. Hope that answers your question.

Hello, What year/model bmw does your girlfriend have? What are you refering to when you say freeze/ expansion plugs? What symptoms is your X5 giving?
@mdion888 жыл бұрын
2001 BMW X5 4.4i. No symptoms or problems. She just hasn't been running any antifreeze in her car in a while. Fixed that real quick. I just wondered how many freeze plugs were in the block. We live in white mountains of AZ and freezes will start to occur soon. Was just being curious. Thanks for the quick response!

Where is the disa valve located on this engine? Thank you
Awesome awesome video! I actually have been struggling with my x5. In a nutshell. If I turn off my AC the truck stalls. After that it's as if the battery is dead. After a while it turns on again. What do y'all think? (Basically it stalls when the rpm drops)
@bimmermerchant6 жыл бұрын
hard to say what could cause your X5 to stall when a/c is on. Could be your AC Clutch going out and putting more stress on engine, could be a vacuum leak. To know for sure, have an independent BMW show diagnose issue. Hope that helps

I'm replacing the head gasket seals on this engine (2001 BMW X5 4.4) but there is a ribbed black hose rapped around the left cover. I was told it might be the alternator wires wrapped around the engine. I can't see a way to disconnect. Does anybody know? Please help.
@bimmermerchant6 жыл бұрын
I could be positive battery cable that connects to starter
@2GoodLookin6 жыл бұрын
That's fine but how do I disconnect it to get the gasket cover off? From the alternator it splits into 2 lines. One goes over and under the cover and engine.

hi I got 2002 bmw x5 4x4 engine I heva lots oil in my intake manuful can u tell me pls a how the oil get the intake
@bimmermerchant8 жыл бұрын
You should check the CCV located in the back of your intake manifold. Cranck Case Ventilation keeps oil away from intake and when part breaks, oil gets into intake.
@steveedwards23388 жыл бұрын
like bimmermerchant said, the ccv was my prob too. Mine just started doing a James Bond smoke screen out of the blue. After lots of research I checked it and it was bad. Unfortunately I am in the process of removing intake completely because of deteriorated hoses and seals underneath it. Good luck. If you replace the ccv be careful, the X5 is different than the cars. The Idea is the same but the parts and process do differ. That is why I am where I am on mine. Beemers have gremlins but they are worth the effort to fix.

That's why people should avoid the 4.4 V8 and go with the 3.0 V6. The 3.0 doesn't have a lot of the problems associated with the 4.4l engine namely the coolant pipe leaking issue which is a bad expensive headache. Just a very dumb design.
