Year bit difficult that one as he could have been saying get me up so he would know perhaps himself to what extent he was injured but of course fractures can have different degrees of pain levels, can't reaaly know for sure without sound but your correct it must be done with ease slowly checking rotation and mobility first. Lowish risk of neck coller here though due to mechanics of injury and witnised history of how it was obtained.

That is where you call an Ambulance. While there may not be that much evidence of injury at the time, the effects of adrenaline stop you from being aware of all the damage done. If this lad has to have time off later (potentially some months, given the highly physical nature of his job), but has not properly reported the accident, it may well have repercussions for him later. I was knocked off my bike when I was 15. No obvious problems at the time, and I picked up my bike and rode on. A month later I had severe pain in my lumber, which culminated in the muscles seizing up so I could barely walk. I had back problems for several years until an Osteopath found the reason.

@coniow
@coniow 11 ай бұрын
@@sopissedoff The issue here is more a matter of covering yourself for possible future issues arising from the accident. Any whiplash or spine injuries may not be immediately apparent. If you are checked out by an ambulance crew, you can put that in an accident report for your employer. If you fail to report it, and did not get checked out, good luck getting you treatment paid for, if subsequently needed. Insurers will use any trick to avoid paying out. If you make a claim later, they can say the injury was from another cause, not the one you are claiming for. Regrettably it is all about the paper work. That, and some folks making claims for non-existent injuries, like the whip-lash claims that some law firms want you to make, even when you did not contact them! Ask a paramedic what they think after watching this clip. Also, who takes him to A&E? The Refuse Truck?

@@anids1988 I mean clearly you’re the type of person that doesn’t know how to look left and right when walking into a part of the road where vehicles drive past. You’re trying to make comparisons between a bus and a bin lorry, where people do the job day in and out and are aware of motorists overtaking at all kind of speeds, as they’re constantly working in the road. The onus is on them to protect themself and not think because people shouldn’t be speeding I’m just going to walk out without looking lmao!! Because that makes total sense 🤣 The bin lorry left enough space for vehicles to pass, therefore he didn’t have to squeeze round any lorry. I guarantee you most bin men who use their brain don’t assume and actually look where they’re going and that’s the reason’s accidents like this aren’t common. Regardless if the driver was doing 5,10,15 or even 20mph, if he had CHECKED he wouldn’t have been struck by the van and that is the MAIN point simple minded people like you don’t seem to understand. I don’t think you should be doing your class 1 test, become a bin man instead. It’s a miracle how some people have lived as long as they have, when they think you can just walk out into traffic without looking and there will be no consequences 🤔 The bin man has learnt his lesson I’m sure and will look in future before risking his life again!

You get frustrated drivers doing daft things, reduce working space for the bin guy who had hardly any space to turn and check for oncoming vehicles (he didn’t stand a chance to turn and see that van), and you put pedestrians at risk, as the impatient drivers speed past either closer to or on the path. @@allroundlad Sorry no. The binman turned on a dime and the whole scenario changed & unfolded within less than or just about one second. One second is the minimum reaction time you can expect from a driver. You are basically asking the driver to react to the new situation in less than one second. Watch the video in real time and have a look at the timer. Everything happened in about 1 second. When the binman was doing his thing at the back of the lorry, the road was clear for the van to move along, not to mention the van was not going very fast. You`ll notice it came to a stop within mere meters indicating a very responsive driver and a very slow speed. The binman was not struck by the van, the van got struck by the binman. This is the clear uncut evidence. Usually when pedestrians hit the side of a vehicle, the pedestrian is to blame. When pedestrians are struck by the front of a car, it`s usually the driver who is to blame.

Bins on the side of the road are always a good warning to drivers that there is likely to be a bin lorry somewhere in the area. Being mindful of your speed and how you take corners is the key to avoiding incidents like this. Something drivers should be doing all the time regardless of the area you are in. One thing I learned is ALWAYS be on the lookout for pedestrians and road workers, regardless of if you are on a residential street, motorway, duel carriageway, anywhere. The things I have seen some pedestrians do, it always pays to be super aware wherever you are.

A kid was looking to cross the road and the car coming along in the opposite direction to me stopped to let the kid cross, so I stopped also. After a couple of seconds hesitation, the kid then went to step out into the road, just as a cyclist sped past the stationary car on the inside. Literally millimetres from making contact with the kid. I now ride a Boris bike to work in Central London 2 days a week. The other week I stopped to let a pedestrian cross on a Zebra. As the guy is walking across, two bikes overtake me and nearly run down the pedestrian, a 3rd manages to skid to a halt and as they do so, another bike crashes right up the back of them. Even when they see a Zebra with people CROSSING, they still don't think to slow down...

The binman should've looked properly first, but that van was going way too fast for the conditions. Even if the binman wasn't there, a kid could've been crossing the road in front of the dustbin lorry without looking, and the van would've had no chance of braking in time. With a large lorry parked on the road like that, the van should've been going through at walking pace

Best summary I've read here. I agree. Regardless of whether the workers or any pedestrians are looking around properly, to go past something that blocks your view at such a speed was reckless.

No. The hazards are on for a reason. Also the binman is already on the road as the controls are on the side and the red flap prevents him from moving to behind the lorry.

When I was a kid , our next door neighbour worked on the council dustcarts , as he moved from the rear of the wagon, he was struck by a speeding car and died later of a major head injury .

Yes the bin guy should have looked first,but still the van driver should have been reading the situtation and thinking 'what if? better slow down abit' not exactly he couldnt see a big white lorry and 2 highviz vests on a clear day!

When I pass a bin lorry I only go at 5mph, no need to fly by it at 40mph.

You know it's a nice area when the driver actually stops and tries to pull you up to your feet. 5 star rating right there

The an driver was going far too fast for a residential neighborhood, he could just as easily have hit a child. I hope the worker is ok. The van driver should lose his license for such reckless driving.

Considering the van stopped within it's actual length, it was not going too fast. The worker should have looked both ways before walking onto the carriageway.

@@ChrisPatrick-q6k yes it does. It makes perfect sense. You don't make sense though, that's an improper use of the word literally.
