Yes as Beth mentioned below. Method I use but cut a piece of my binding open it up, lay it down on my overlapped tails and cut top to the left. Bottom tail to the right of the binding 2.5“ guide and use that for my guide of where to cut I did send you a link in email. In doubt. Use a basting stitch before you cut your angled seam. If it turns and lays flat sew over angle with normal stitch , cut extra off, press lay down and sew binding on quilt. Fits perfectly. Looks so nice. I have a binding tool but never use it.

I love binding a quilt and handstitching the back. I like your method with the square ruler for the corners instead of a straight ruler. I always cut 2.5" strips and when I overlap the two ends it also should be 2 5" that overlaps. It's the best method I know of which works. Such a cute quilt. Thank you for your lovely video.

When you are ending your binding , instead of doing a straight seam to join the beginning of the binding to the end, you can overlap the two ends by the same measurement as the width of you’re binding . So, if your binding is 2 1/2” you overlap the two ends by 2 1/2” and cut. Make sure to leave enough binding not sewn down so you can maneuver to join the ends the same way you did all the others, by putting the ends at right angles and sewing diagonally. Voila! You have an angled seam and it lays flat to your quilt and you can stitch it down.

Beautiful...once again! Thanks for the close up on the hand binding part. Have always wanted to see a close-up on 5he hand stitching. Well done! You’re such a breath of fresh air. Appreciate you’re transparency in what you do. You mention your fears and concerns on an occasion. Ie the part where you mention the scary part of cutting the binding. ☺️ I always thought I was the only whose heart races a little when I have to cut the binding. 😊

My favourite binding method is to use the backing as binding, using the Quick Easy mitred-binding tool. You leave the backing material about 1.5" bigger than the quilt, folding it back carefully when you square up the quilt, which gives you a 3/4" binding. You only sew 1 seam on the front and no hand stitching. And, you always get beautiful mitred corners on the front of the quilt. Excellent for those with arthritis or carpal tunnel who have challenges with hand sewing. I, too, have never been really successful with sewing a traditional binding on with the machine. And, this method only works if the backing material matches the pieced quilt top well.

Thank you for this video on binding. I am fairly new to quilting, I am finishing the back on my 10th quilt. I haven't seen a video on how to hand sew the back of the binding. I have been using the machine for both sides and don't really like the result. I really like your method and will try it on this quilt. Thank you fro all of your work on the videos. You are so cheerful it is a pleasure to watch your videos.

Enjoyed watching your video Irene. Beautiful quilt! I have yet to do hand binding... maybe one of these days. If you're able to watch Power Tools With Thread, Becky has a great video on attaching the ends of binding. Great seeing your smiling face!

I think you’ll find that if you sew off of your corners at a 45° angle and cut your thread you’ll make a nicer corner. Then fold the binding straight up away from the next side forming your miter, then down along the side. Start sewing down the side 1/4” from the top corner.

Love your striped binding and of course your pencil quilt is adorable! Also really love your grey backing fabric with the giant polka dots! I have never tried hand-stitching my binding, but I might try it on my next project! Thanks again, Irene, for your tutorials.

Making a biased cut so that the stripes appear to be angled around the quilt is a nice look as well as the straight one you have cut. Just an idea.

Ooh! Try “The Binding Tool” from TQM. It binds all of my quilts that have a 2 ½” seam. They also have a mini to do the 50mm binding.

Question: when you quilt parallel lines, how do you know whether the spacing is adequate for the batting? I cannot get an answer to this, even though I contacted the batting manufacturer. So in my case, using a batting that states quilting can be up to 10" apart, how far apart can parallel lines be with no crossing lines? Does anyone know?

Is there a particular name for the stitch you are using? Seems your Method or extra stitch Every few stitches might relieve a bit of pressure on the thread. Interesting.

Lovely quilt binding...but you made mitering your corners and connecting your start and finish ends way more complicated than it needed to be. Doing binding completely by machine requires cutting the strips at least 2.5".

That seems a quicker way to hand stitch the binding not my favourite part my finger is sore watching you hand stitch without a thimble ouch
