How on earth did she not become a bigger film star? She had it all.

She said that she did not pursue it. She said that live theatre was like a drug.

@@mikewebber2637 Yeah I’d love to see her in a play. She just had movie star quality. Shame it didn’t really happen for her but as long as she was happy I guess.

I think she was too close to Julie Andrews and maybe Hollywood didnt have space for two of the same...if Sally was born 20 years prior...she would have been the toast of MGM

They're both absolute treasures! I only recently knew of Sally Ann Howes from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but what a career she's had!

Reading all these nice things about the wonderful Sally Ann Howes I would like to point out in 1990 she starred in the New York City Opera production of Sondheim's "A Little Night Music". It was televised and has been posted on You Tube. It's a rare chance to see her in a complete musical.

This reminded me of the Julie Andrews Hour a lot! Both are lovely English ladies with such classy distinct voices. ❤️

Liza Elliott so true! No surprise that Sally Ann Howes Was the first choice and really the only choice to be the first replacement for Julie Andrews in my fair lady on Broadway

You may be interested/surprised to see what she did just before this duet (search for Hollywood Palace 6-26, just after 43:00). Came out and began with "Just One of Those Things," a sort of song I'd never seen her do, it's fine, and then she transitions into what I find a hair-raising and very exposed second song. Has to take a few steps around to sort of recover at the end. Bing comes out and remarks, "emotional experience for everybody." Some people won't like it, but it makes me think what a lot of depth she had that she may have only fully shown in live (not recorded) performances. Along with a spectacular voice and singing technique.
