Tarentino is at his best when he EITHER writes (True Romance) OR directs (Jackie Brown). When he does both there's no one to edit him and he is too self indulgent. This is definitely his best work as a director. It helps that the book it's based on is fantastic ("Rum Punch" - Elmore Leonard)!

I like the scene where Samuel L Jackson closes his eyes and starts to think of what could have happened, for like 6 seconds, as the camera is zooming in on him blotching out everything else around him. And within that time, when he finally opens his eyes again, he has come up with the answer....that it was Jackie Brown

I like this too. It's rare that a movie will take a genuine moment to just let a character think, and show them thinking. And not thinking on the fly. Like "be quiet and let me really think" thinking. Tarantino gets plenty of credit for his talky dialogue but some of his best moments are when he's smart enough to have his characters shut the f up for a minute and let everything breathe a little.

In the 80’s, I knew a blonde surfer chick in Santa Cruz (she didn’t surf), who looked and acted so much like Melanie (bong glued to her lips, loved cocaine, a backstabber, always plotting felonious crimes), that I think perhaps Quentin Tarantino met her. Uncanny.

They aren't really a trilogy, but I know what you mean. I thought Hateful 8, Kill Bill, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood were all great too. Hell, all his movies are works of art. I don't like the man, but his movies are masterpieces.

@@yani2499 I always thought Inglorious Basterds was vastly overrated because it has a few great scenes. Much of the movie is just ridiculous and the tone changes constantly.
