In general I liked the movies better than the books except for this motif. Jason Bourne wanted out because Jason Bourne was basically born again. He had new forming experiences and was simply not the same guy as before the amnesia. The ideas presented here assume a static personality. Both of the characters think the key to Jason Bourne was his past when the actual key to Jason Bourne is the moment.
@DimitriKoul3 жыл бұрын
But the movies show that he was always conflicted. The reason he gets amnesia is because he didn't kill the guy on the boat when he was supposed to. He's haunted by the first hit he did of the couple in Russia because there was something off about it. In Ultimatum, he's shown in the flashbacks refusing to join the program because of what it fully is and he doesn't want to kill the guy with the bag over his head. He asks "who is he? What did he do?" I know that in the end he just ends up doing it but they were sleep deprived and fucked with until they complied. That's why they needed a handler like Nicky and regular checkups. They were all fucked with I think the amnesia just gave him a chance to really be who he wanted to be.
@Innomen Жыл бұрын
That definitely takes the movie into Sci-Fi land. In reality neuroplasticity decline with aging prevents such reboots. That's why mkultra largely failed. The human brain is clay, and time is a kiln.
@josephnoneofyourbeeswax8517 Жыл бұрын
@@DimitriKoul You probably forgot he had the IQ of a carrot before the drugs according to Bourne Legacy. If you go by the books it is more likely he was always a killer. If you go by the early Bourne movies, he was a patriot who volunteered. No matter how you view it, I don't agree with your analysis. But everyone is entitled to an opinion.
@DimitriKoul Жыл бұрын
@@josephnoneofyourbeeswax8517 yes he was a patriot, but he was never almost psychopathic like in the books. From what I understand in the books, he had no remorse or guilt for what he had done whereas in the movies, they straight up lie to him about who he's killing and why, and clearly shows that what he was doing was bothering him from the start. It's not crazy, they wanted someone you can root for to redeem himself. If he had no remorse or redeeming qualities, he's just a killer.

I don't like this concept. Jason Bourne was an identity crafted around being the perfect weapon. He regained his humanity by being granted the opportunity to lose all knowledge of who he is & see what he's become. He wears the name of Jason Bourne as a badge of shame, not honour. He doesn't want to be that man anymore - but he needs to double down on being that man to escape. This film however implies that Jason Bourne & David Webb are the same person - that David had no agency in what he did. That he never choose the identity of Jason Bourne, he was chosen & tricked into it. Therefore he's never been a man who lost his humanity, just a pawn always. It completely loses the core of the Jason Bourne character - true redemption - by stating he was never the bad guy in the first place.
