Insane level of creativity and humor here. The whole time she was banging on the bell, I was reacting like, why the heck would someone be ringing a bell in the middle of a life or death fight? The minute she got the top off and picked it up and realized what was about to happen, I was just in awe. The fact they could write a prop like this into a fight scene and make it so much fun. For people who don’t understand what Stephen Chow was doing… He actually put “wuxia novel” elements in his Hong Kong style comedy. Therefore sometimes foreigners found it hard to understand why people are jumping and flying around in Hong Kong movies. Imagine it is a parallel universe with people practicing “internal power” or chi-like stuff and will use their kung fu for justice, like Star Wars, then you might have a better experience while watching these kinds of action films 😊 Sometimes Stephen Chow also told his fellow actors to imitate Bruce Lee to show his respect towards his idol. Stephen himself is a lifelong experienced material artist with Wing Chun background. But he said he just didn’t get involved with “real action films” like Jackie Chan style movies.

The way stephen chow introduced the villain is really genius in writing. Before this scene happened, he was just some old man locked in a cell. Minding his own business. He's also locked in a secluded cell and very heavily guarded making us the viewers wondering what this old man did to get locked like that in the first place. And then, later, we know what his capable of. We saw him catch a bullet in point blank range ease. Here, we see his true power. He's stronger than both hero and heroine combine. Faster and more durable. The only thing that caught him off guard is the lion roar move. We saw him basically bodied these two with ease.

It's a villain trope that's been sadly lost in the sea of "cool mastermind" and "badass evil guy" characters. Just the normal looking, unassuming, laid back, generally polite guy who's an absolute monster hidden behind the exterior is one of my favourite types of villains. It mirrors a more real world aesthetic of evil. The most evil and dangerous people in our history were people you could pass on the street and never look twice. Villains like The Beast, Gaunter O Dimm, Blackbeard etc always hit for me. The Devil after all hides in plain sight.

The scene where main character (Forgot his name XD) hits the beast is very impressive. He had a choice- a nice, easy way as a gang member, or doing the right thing against impossible odds, and he chose the second. That's very good, and I actually find it better than the final fight.

a very old plot, the protagonist is a god among humans but doesn't know it yet, only after a life threating situation can he discover his true power and then conquer all once fearsome formidable foes with extreme ease, like a kid play, and claim the rightful rule over the earth. The plot is so typical, but on this movie, it works so frickingly well!!
