Young Crowley has unstable angina and was sickly until he had spent time away from his parents. He lived in the country, chopped wood, became physically strong before he returned to his parents. He still suffered from angina and was prescribed, as he had been before time in the country, it was called laudinum (morphine), it came in tinctures. This was the method used for pain in many, in those days. During travels later on, laudinum wasn't available, so he was prescribed Heroin. Heroin, was a brand name for processed morphine. It was created in Germany by Bayer. He built a tolerance.

Crowley's followers could not have "stared at frightening images and while taking LSD" at the abbey. The abbey was founded in 1920 and shuttered in 1923. LSD was not synthesized until 1938 and was not discovered to have effects until 1943. By this time the Abbey had been closed for 20 years. Similarly, mushrooms were not known outside circles until scientists for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals went seeking out psychedelic drugs in the 1950. It is doubtful that Crowley would have had access to this drug as it was not purified from the raw material until 1959. Mescaline was the most likely drug used, as accounts from the era describe the copious use of alcohol, morphine, cocaine, and chloroform, as well as the occasional use of peyote/mescaline.

Crowley wasn't all he claimed to be but he certainly had a great influence on 20th century subculture. He also had a great sense of humour. While living at Boleskine, he once wrote to the community council in Foyers, the nearest village, complaining of the level of sin and lewd behaviour there. The council duly got back to him, saying they could find no evidence of such. Crowley replied "That's exactly what I mean. It's terrible."

I've read about this guy for 37 years and this was the first person to contradict the death in a boarding house as a feeble perplexed heroin addict. FIRST TIME. I also never heard about a redemption through finding joy in family and getting sober. This account is unique. Again, I have doubts. I have read his Book of The Law, and other of his esoteric writings many many years ago. I encourage anyone to read that stuff and draw their own conclusions. The whole "Do What Thou Wilt" is only part of the mantra. There's "Love under Law", which is clearly the opposite of Christian teaching that love covers many sins, and that Love in it's truest form, rendered payment for mankind's debt to the Creator for breaking the Law. You can't "Do What Thou Wilt" without leaving a negative impact on others. It's selfishness. Is that a high spiritual or moral aspiration?
@caroliner20292 жыл бұрын
I've only heard that Crowley was a pedo. I would bet that he ab*sed his little son. My mother was a Narcissist, and a bis*xual pedo like him, and if she was still alive I'd press charges. It's rubbish that a twisted, amoral and perverted individual like Crowley would ever be able to bond with or love another person, family or not. A Narcissist isn't capable of love or bonding. They don't have object constancy, or empathy. Crowley would have been bored stiff at home with "family" and no drugs. Everyone that practices Crowley's rituals holds that the blood of a little boy is best for their "spirit cooking". As per Maria Abramovich, Lady Gaga, Hillary Clinton, etc...

Finally a decent (albeit short) video on Aleister Crowley. Although there are a few mistruths promulgated here. 1) Crowley left the Abramelin operation to support MacGregor Mathers in the Golden Dawn schism, not for lack of results from the operation. 2) LSD wasn't in existence when Crowley was at the Abbey of Thelema at Cefalu, most likely it was mescaline, cocaine, or opium that was taken. 3) Leah Hirsig wasn't the person who went to the press, that was Betty May. 4) After 1935 Crowley didn't just become a nobody, some of his greatest works were written even up until his death, such as the book of thoth and his work with Lady Freida Harris from 1939 to 1944, and Magic without tears which was published posthumously. 5) Crowley had various so-called supernatural experiences prior to the events of 1904 in egypt. There is plenty of literature/diary entries to confirm this. 6) The Goetia ritual with Rose was not in a cave, but the King's Chamber of one of the pyramids. It was done to show Rose the Sylphs, but instead she claimed to be in contact with Horus. But on the whole it is appreciated to finally see a Video that has some semblance of proper research behind it

@SomeHazyCaveman Not really, he explored the symbolism of the idea of satan, but also explored the symbolism of many different gods. Satan is for the most part a christian creation, an aspect of that pantheon. Crowley abhorred what christianity had become and the repressive aspects it subjected people to, so he identified with the adversary in attacking it. Hence the title 'The Great Beast 666'. As for black magic, he found it repulsive and corrupted, and termed it as any act that wasn't in conformity with one's will. He even took a publisher to court over being named a black magician, though he lost the case as the judge found his sexual exploits to be repugnant, which has nothing to do with whether he was a black magician or not.

@@DRholmsey What I glean from Crowley is that he was some sort of kabalist. In particular, he seems to have espoused Sabatean Frankism. This also explains why he named his daughter Ataturk. This man had all the hallmarks of satanic doctrine. This video claims that he was a failed secret agent, but I think the opposite is true. Maybe his uncle even had a hand in his induction. He probably remained a secret agent until the day he died. Mission: moral subversion. Probably he was never even explicitly told that that was his mission, yet his mission it was.

But the modern world is very far from being sane and the power structures adore and promote such freemasonic occultists and intelligence assets. It is likely Crowley was a lifelong British intelligence asset which added to his "untouchable" status. At least Fascist Italy exiled this rootless parasite and his "commune" in the 1920's. If they could’ve just let him live a normal life as a child, running around and playing, and enjoying a given amount of freedom to himself, then he would have not been easily drawn into the wickedness of the world as he clearly had experienced it once or twice in his life as a young teenager.
@theplacebeyondthelies24292 жыл бұрын
"the kind of man that he *was " the story just sounds too good to be true cause it favors this satanic new age movement in so many ways... first of all it degrades christianity, second of all it promotes emancipation and therefore a false sense of freedom, third of all this story will lead many people to the conclusion of planed parenthood, that it's fair if the government takes your children away at early ages, and they'll come out with all those stories how governments are saving children from christian parents cause they are considered as cruel or evil while they had in mind to protect their children... cause that is what you do when you are a parent and you truly care for your children... this whole world is satanic... just letting your kids get accustomed with this world will lead them into this fairytale dream, this matrix and they will have a hard time waking up to the truth once they are already involved with it... there is something called desensitizing... when you partake in certain things of this world you will be desensitized and probably even promote it as harmless, like alcohol or cigarettes or porn etc... it is basically weakening your senses to the evil in this world... imagine if you had to go through all painful experiences just to learn what's right... you can also avoid things by listening to someone who loves you - for example your parents. Your government does not love you. For them you are just a corn of sand at the beach from which they will build castles with tax income.. castles out of sand cause Jesus is the truth, and everything will turn to dust one day... and none of them can take their money with them... that's the greatest joy of a christian - knowing that Jesus wins.

You forgot to mention his entry into the OTO by Theodore Ruess in which he eventually became Ruesses successor as outer head and reconstituted it with thelema as it’s central philosophy. He also founded the A.’.A.’. Which was his spiritual school. Not everyone that was involved with Crowley ended up having their lives destroyed. Karl Germer was Crowley’s successor in the OTO and the AA. Grady McMurtry became a student of Crowley’s during World War Two and was Crowley’s successor of the OTO after Germers death in 1962. McMurtry had successfully expanded the OTO in the United States and was the first to mass publish Crowley’s works to make them available to the public. Israel Regardie was also a student of Crowley’s and was a practicing psychologist who published works based on Crowley’s teachings. However, Hubbard was never a student of Crowley’s and never met him. Hubbard was involved with Parsons at the Agape lodge in Pasadena California but it was a short lived relationship. Hubbard took some of the ideas and practices of thelema and twisted them into what would eventually become Scientology.

@alaricgoldkuhl1553 жыл бұрын
Crowley had some out there ideas, but when you read his work it is not so obviously crazy. Mostly he talked about internal transformations through magic ritual, that it is to transform the mind of the practitioner. To dismiss him as mere superstition ignores the massive influence he had on some of the greatest minds of the 20th Century. As for "magic", Jimmy Page went to his house and wrote Stairway to Heaven in 15mins. He said "it was like something was guiding his hand". Even if you say that it was Jimmy's own brain reacting to the location, this to me is what is meant by "magic". It might only happen in human brains, but that doesn't make it any less remarkable.

The full quote of the pagan philosophy is: if you harm none, do as you will. That also includes harm to all creatures, including yourself. Sadly, it's often misinterpreted.
@ScrappyKitty15 Жыл бұрын
In the Book of the Law by Crowley it does not say that. It says: 39. The word of the Law is THELEMA. 40. Who calls us Thelemites will do no wrong, if he look but close into the word. For there are therein Three Grades, the Hermit, and the Lover, and the man of Earth. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. 41. The word of Sin is Restriction. O man! refuse not thy wife, if she will! O lover, if thou wilt, depart! There is no bond that can unite the divided but love: all else is a curse. Accursed! Accursed be it to the aeons! Hell. 42. Let it be that state of manyhood bound and loathing. So with thy all; thou hast no right but to do thy will. 43. Do that, and no other shall say nay. 44. For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect. To him doing what you want no matter is what was important, because someone’s will was perfect. He in his lifetime hurt many people, so he didn’t adhere to the pagan from of do as you will. He adhered to do as you will no matter what. Either way, do as you will, is still a totally selfish philosophy. Because you take into account only your desire, even when you say you’re thinking of how it won’t hurt others. We can never a human beings hold to that because we are self centered beings and will always make excuses to do what we want for our own benefit no matter what.

@James May I don't think people regard Stephen Hawking as particularly cool either, but what both of them did was fight against commonly long held beliefs that made them philosophical giants, Crowley met with nothing but opposition his whole life and livd it the way he wanted to in spite of this, anyone who rebels against ancient mythology as real history or fights against established systems of belief in anything doesnt have to go up against what he did, so yes that does make him an interesting and celebrated character.... whether or not you subscribe to his beliefs (I personally do not but admire his tenacity) is your right to express as you see fit. In Victorian England, people were not allowed to do this without serious repercussions, social outcasting, jail, etc. I currently live in Turkey where they arrest journalists for tweeting bad things about the government and are held without trial.

You are mostly correct. I would like to recommend you to the books: Aleister Crowley The Biography, by Tobias Churton, and Perdurabo, by Richard Kaczynski. At one time Heroin was prescribed for the treatment of Asthma. There was no LSD in Crowley's lifetime. The Book of Abramelin had a ritual for the Knowledge and Communication of the Holy Guardian Angel. There are references in Crowley's writings that the HGA was a Personal God, hence Aiwaz was a secret name of Melek Taus, the god of the Yazidis. "Do What Thou Wilt" does no mean "Do as You Please". It means go deep into your Unconscious Mind, find your True Will, Identify with it, and bring it to the Surface to affect your actions. And he had had spiritual encounters before April 1904.
@trenthuggary82655 жыл бұрын
thank you. LSD was first synthesized in 1938 when Crowley would have been 60+ years old. @13:00 "he encouraged his followers to take LSD" claim... in 1920? 18 years before it was discovered? Now that's a neat magic trick

Sandolz Labs and a famous bicycle ride is the origin story of LSD 25. I don't know how many versions there are. Argot mold inoculated in a medium of organic rye and liquor, preferably in a glass (Pyrex) 8x8x2 inch pan filled 1/2 way. Either in a clean room, and/or covered in nylon. No light for 48 hours. Check mold growth. When the mold hairs reach the top of the pan, scrape the "gak" off the top and put it in test tubes. Spin in a centrifuge until clear liquid separates. That clear liquid is LSD 25. There's a recipe that is made with marigold seeds, but I am not familiar with that process.

Playing for children is usually encouraged and usually the more energetic team games as it promotes health (the body being the temple of God etc). Long countryside walks are encouraged where possible in some of their churches as are picnics on Saturdays. Some are strict tithers some are not. Some have the same rules on that as the Salvation Army. IE you can attend all you like, but you are not a full member until you tithe. Even the strict tithers will treat people as visitors rather than members who don't tithe most of the time (every time I have seen). Interesting to learn these things about his life as a person living in his day. I like the way you presented it. And, then in his older years after all those attempts at conjuring an extraordinary way of life failed and his money ran out, he discovered what everyone else around him had known all along, although it was something he had never had : the happiness of belonging to a family that valued enjoying life as a group instead of just as selfish individuals living together. THAT part of his life I did not know about until now, and it restores my faith in his ultimate humanity in spite of his previous self centeredness.
