It is a great one off guide for Getting rid of bacterial infection minus the headache. Great resource! Thank you for posting it, Dr. Mike. I noticed an inaccuracy that is often mistakenly propagated about the MOA of Beta-lactam antibiotics in your video. If you get a chance to see this comment please consider revising the video. Here's what I mean. Though probably clinically irrelevant, the Beta-lactam antibiotics do not break the bonds that the transpeptidase forms between the peptide chains. The Beta-lactam ring is structurally similar to the two amino acid residues ((D-ala-D-ala)) at the end of one of the peptides to get crosslinked. The transpeptidase enzyme (aka PBP) gets inactivated because instead of binding to the D-ala-D-ala residues they end up binding to the Beta-lactam antibiotics (Penicillins, Cephalosporins, Monobactams (Aztreonam) and Carbapenems. So they prevent cross-links from forming but not destroying the ones already made (those are gradually broken down by the cell-wall remodeling enzymes. The ultimate result is a weakened cell wall which causes the cell to lyse as water moves down the osmotic gradient and pops the cell. Anyway... Thanks again!
