Biondo Tardivo Di Trebisacce -
Very low acid, good sugar content, juicy with a strong orange flavour and smell that perfumes the air (and hands) long after the fruit has been finished. I'm very happy with this variety.
Trebisacce is a town in the Calabria region of Southern Italy.
'Biondo Tardivo' translates to 'Blonde Late'.
So this variety is translated to 'Late Blonde of Trebesacce'.
Incidently, the town 'Trebesacce' translates to 'Three saddlebags' .

Healthy looking citrus Dominic with an attractively shaped canopy. Thanks for the tip regarding the straw products to deter slugs and snails. They have been an absolute pest this year. Also good idea with the coke tin labels.

Thanks, Mike. I'm hoping the canopy will fill out more but this year I want to leave the flowers and fruitlets on. I should really remove them but I'm curious to see how the fruit turns out. Yes, Strulch is a fantastic product. A single bag pretty much covers all the plants I have, but I buy two bags because it works out cheaper,.

Beautiful plant, Dom. Few flower aromas beat citrus blossom fragrance, and orange blossom fragrance especially. The bees seem to love it! Good use of the aluminium from the drinks cans. "Waste not want not". Saves having to buy the aluminium labels.

Thanks, Gary. This is such an amazing, rare variety of citrus that I actually feel honoured to have it. (If that makes any sense). The people in the town of Trebissace in Calabria, Italy, hold an annual festival called 'The Feast of the 'Late Blonde' to celebrate this fruit. I want to attend at some point. You're right about citrus blossom and it's perfume, both insects and humans, love it. It's one of the reasons that growing citrus is so plesaurable. I got the aluminium can, plant label idea from 'Virginia Fruit Grower' ... His homemade labels have lasted years so definetly worth making them rather than buying.

Your Italisn pronounciation is getting impressive Dom. A lovely looking plant and very obliging of the bees to arrive right on cue 😁. I'll be interested to see how successful the strulch is

haha. I don't I have the Italian accent so no doubt it sounds odd to native speakers. I do love the country though so should practice the language more. Strulch is great stuff but it's not a silver bullet, Other 'best practice' needs to be followed to reduce snail numbers in the garden ... but for me, it's definetly proved beneficial.

It's looking incredibly healthy! I remember your taste test from last year. Hopefully, the fruits that develop on it in your garden taste just as good 🤞 I should probably look into getting some Strulch, it sounds like it might be quite helpful for my container citrus trees 👍

Thanks, Peter. I'm happy with it's progress. It seems to be filling out a bit more now. The fruit was excellent quality but it was grown in Italy, so I'm hoping I can grow nearly as good here. Strulch is great, I use it for all my plants now and can't recommend it highly enough. The cheapest way to buy it as far as I can tell is to purchase 2 bags from the online store beginning with 'A'. 👍🏽

I love the idea of straw mulch. I wish we had a product like this here. It would be great for my citrus and strawberries. I use bark and pine cone on top.

Thanks, Sam. This mulch product is fantastic. Its cheap and a single bag covers a wide area . The company calls it 'mineralised straw' and say as it slowly breaks down it releases nutrients back into the soil. Bark and pine are excellent mulches too .. I've bought citrus in Italy and France that have had a covering of bark on the surface. It seems to do a good job. 👍🏽

@@MoebiusUK I actually use Fir bark as mulch and in my citrus potting mix. The product in UK called “Zoo Med RB-8E Repti Bark”. The bark last for years and citrus feeder roots seems to like it.

The plant loks very healthy, what do you feed them with?
@MoebiusUK
@MoebiusUK 3 ай бұрын
Thank you. . I usually feed with a very low dosage of soluble citrus fertiliser that I purchased from the store beginning with 'A'. The fertiliser has an NPK of 18-18-18. I only use rainwater that I collect from my waterbutt because the water in London has high mineral content. In addition, every once in a while I will add fish emulsion or liquid seaweed to the feed.
