Does that cTDP *actually* work on the regular CPUs and not just on the APUs where this is an advertised feature? If it does, than it would be massively helpful if you could do some testing at some settings like 65W, 80W, 95W and check what the boost analysis looks like for those settings (and also it the power consumption actually fits the setting). TechPowerUp started to produce immensely helpful boost analysis diagrams, where on page 16 of their Ryzen 2700 Non-X review you can see a terrible drop in boots frequencies with 5 or more active threads. If one culd buy a 2700X and tame that alittle bit, then the 2700X would be a lot more attractive for energy efficiency aware builders.

Thanks for the detailed walk through on the BIOS. I have the Gaming 5. MicroCenter knocked $50 off the board with the Ryzen2 processors when they launched and stock on boards was very limited at release. The Corsair DDR4 3000 CL15 from my Intel system would not run past 2666. Sold that kit with the Intel setup and put in a GSkill TridentZ 3200 CL16 kit (Hynix based). XMP works like a champ. Samsung b-die prices are nuts. All in all I've been extremely satisfied with it running my 2700x at stock. May not be a good choice for OCing but for stock use I've had no issues at all and would recommend. Temps are spot on and it's been perfectly stable for 3+ months.

SVM = Secure Virtual Machine, called also AMD-V extension (e.g. in CPU-Z). It is hardware acceleration for virtualization on Windows and Linux so you want it on if you are using Hyper-V, Docker, VirtualBox, KVM, etc. You can have it enabled all the time - I do not know if there is any drawback if the SVM is enabled but not used.

small correction: docker doesn't belong in that list. but yeah, don't know any drawbacks either.

To add to this, the IOMMU is a thing that's useful for VMs, you can use IOMMU to share hardware directly with a VM, such as a video card, like in LinusTechTips's X Gamers 1 CPU videos. Level1Techs has some videos on IOMMU for AMD, though I think it's all 1st gen & threadripper. Also bios updates can change how well things do or don't work and some boards might be better than others.

07:15 The op-cache basically stores already decoded instructions in case you need to use them again. Keeping that thing enabled significantly increases the performance of loops and also improves the performance of SMT because Ryzen is bottlenecked to some degree by the decoder so being able to supplement the instructions decoded by the decoder by already decoded instructions in the op-cache allows it to occationally do more then 4 IPC for the core as a whole (a single thread never is held back by the decoders max limit of 4 but two threads might occationally be, this is one of the tricks AMD has up its sleeves vs Skylake to beat them in multi-threaded IPC as Coffee Lake, using Skylake arcitecture can only decode 4 instructions pr clock cycle and can't retire more then 4 either, while Ryzen, using Zen can retire 6 meaning that if the core is feed more then 4 IPC it still can deal with that) Anyway, dissabling this could *theoretically* help with extreme overclocking. But unless you have a code that don't benefit from that in any way you're probably going to experience a reduction in performance. If your code is latency sensitive (games and music for instance) then leave it on, if your code got any loops that's smaller then 16 B leave it on, if you're using both threads of the core, leave it on. You should only really dissable it if all you care about is frequency and you don't care about performance at all, or if some *major* security issue is discovered with the op-cache and keeping it on ends up just being unacceptable. 7:49 You might occationally improve performance even without overclocking when doing 4+0 in 8 threaded workloads or workloads with less then 8 threads in use provided that the threads communicate a lot with eachother. Obviously you also lose any performance advantage that having *more* then 4 cores might offer, so not *that* useful, still if all you're playing is things like World of Tanks or some such... That said, I'd just use thread affinity myself instead... The situations where that helps are about as rare as the situations where dissabling SMT helps is...

23:51 IOMMU is *very* usefull if you're doing viritual machines and want the VM to have direct access to any hardware connected to the motherboard. Doesn't have to be harddrives at all, for instance if you're running a Windows guest OS in a VM *inside* a Linux host OS and you want to game on it you'll need to pass through a GPU to Windows if you want good gaming performance inside the VM. And perhaps you want specific USB ports or SATA ports to be connected to the Windows VM instead of the Linux one, IOMMU is what makes it possible to do that kind of things. IOMMU isn't set up particularly well on Ryzen, but at least it's there in the first place unlike of the alternatives...

Nice one m8 thx. like to see more on the pbo progress also when you get a min on the aorus g7 z370 bios walkthrough and your whole overclock with the delided 8086k but thx gr8 stuff. Really annoyed with the CH7 it seems overpriced and same old same old, all they did was turn up the voltage to make it work as gd as the aorus x470. I think the strix -f would be one of the best bets esp. if you yourself find that all you really need is a good vrm and the pbo override options, set it and forget it at lvl3 maybe a little bump to bclk. Now if that's the case for best performance then its been made really easy and as such we can focus on a gd vrm, gd feature set, then get to work on memory speed & latency, which takes time in itself. I'm wondering if that's your opinion here also, knowing the insane amount of options in bios esp. on asus boards it would be nice to cut through the crap and just get to the part that matters. Just checked the price of the x470 stix-f kinda expensive for what is so again asus tax here in the u.k. think i'll pass on asus all round again was the same with my z370 went aorus g7 asus boards just way too much, apex X £300 lol.

I read that "High Precision Event Timer" must be "Disabled" for a better cpu performance. SMT Mode = Enabled for Hyper Threading. And is very important that "CPU Control Mode" be set = PWM for a better control (presicion) of fans. "Temperature Interval" = 2 is ok.

unless you are afraid of pissing off a roomate ... and you intend to overclock the idea that u need "precision fan curves" is kinda silly ...u set them to manual put them on 100 and move as much air past the hardware as possible at all times. Fan's are cheap just use them ...the amount of power they draw is horseshit as well vs the price of the hardware. I built my system on a budget in the summer of 2018 . Definately better stuff out there processor wise with Intel but for 140 bucks on the CPU and 240 on the GPU i can't complain. But again I play games So I have headphones and don't care about noise lvls as my gaming system isn't at work where im concerned about other people's reaction to the sound. Hard part with This motherboard and Ryzen in particular is memory OC. Good news is Yes u can now with new bios updates hit 3600+mhz speeds but you are better off going with a lower frequency with SUPER right timings ...not simply the base 5 everyone lists but ALL the subtimings ...tweak and tighten All of them and you will actually notice FPS gains in video games up to 8 frames in my experience . More importantly you can solve most stutter issues in intensive games like BF5 as the frametimes tend to improve . Ryzen 7 2700 (non x) OC to 4.275 ghz all cores 1.36 VCore 240mm Push/Pull Config AIO Avg temp with 5 hours Of gaming = 56C , Gskill 3200mhz cl16 OC to 3333mhz timings Tightened to CL14 Full tower case cuz ...don't be a bitch bruh u need those radiator slots n fan slots. Buy yer sister the "Mid tower" which translates into Bitchmade punk tower. Gift yer mom a mini ITX tower cuz she is yer mom n doesn't know that its stupid. Put a bow on that shit n never speak of sch nuttless things again cuz yer a man , not some console gamer who has to ask mom if there is extra room for a 2nd controller in the living room. Yer a god damn PC gamer , that means you have TWO Testicals and can use both of them in the decisions you make. Budget or not you go ballsout with yer frames out son. No 30fps locked pre lowered setting BULLshit like those scuffed ass console gamers have to endur and most of the itme are too dense to even realize it. Oh Gigabyte GTX 1660 TI Graphics card , 144 FPS on Bf5 High settings where it helps ( Lighting , Mesh , Texture Detail , AA ) * Yea i see u in that bush mfer , whats good?" Low settings for stupid shit like undergrowth and terrain. Looking forward to wanging out with a new AMD Graphics card when money allows. Till then I'll see yall in the trenches .... PS planes suck.

10kHz BCLK stepping for Software Defined Radios (or soft modems) is very 'cool' however I'm not sure that granularity is beneficial for most other uses (or ADC's with built in clock gens). Also, if you're within 10kHz of stability on your comp, it probably isn't daily usage stable with hotter day ambient temps. 4 sec Power button, is super legacy, lol. If you're running an OS that ignores the power button and lacks a 'shut down soft mode' (Like DOS v3.0), you can set that to turn off the comp if the power button is pressed for 4 sec. Great vid, Thanks for the what is in there vid, this works. B)

Once win was installed I then installed the Gigabyte utilities and that updated the Intel WiFi driver that was causing all the problems. Once that was installed I could then drop back into the Bios and bring all cores back into action. Apparently this is an ongoing issue for many with the 3900x and I resume might be even worse for the 3950x

As a former X370 K7 owner, Gigabyte was the biggest supporter of me switching to the MSI X470 M7 AC. Twice two different BIOS revisions bricked my main BIOS just with basic multiplier, voltage, and XMP profile adjustments. New BIOS releases just feel like a public beta test rather than an official release. I bought the K7 in October of last year and ditched it not long after Zen+ launch. The entire time I used the board, RGB Fusion proved itself little more than unusable. There was one update during that time that fixed instant crashing of the software, though it would then crash after adjusting any lights. GG Never buying nor recommending another Gigabyte board in the near future at the least. As suprised as I am to say it, MSI has been on a completely different world for me on AM4. It's been nothing short of great in my experience.
@boblister61746 жыл бұрын
same as me late 90's early 2000's there quality was questionably getting worse so I stopped using them tried the X370 K7 for my ryzen build nice feature list for the price. But I hate there newer bios hiding everything removing useful voltage setting for stabilizing ram even a few bios revisions they had to pull completely off there ftp because they were at the point of frying chips with to much voltage caused by bugs with certain offset values(1.55V from certain negative offsets). I'm still currently running it sense I don't have a need to upgrade my chip with the zen+ gains but have not gone past F20 because of loss of performance from there bios's getting worse and removing features. Even then I'm still thinking of going back earlier for my ram to drop the Trfc back under 500 (hynix ram was a pain with first gen ryzen) as well as some other sub timings that will not drop lower in f20 then they would in F7a or F10.
@not_a_samsquamsh67776 жыл бұрын
Bob Lister I just stuck with F4 for most of the time I had the K7. Anything higher added about 10 amps for some inexplicable reason. It was enough to ramp the fans up on my R1 Universal, which was annoying in an otherwise quite silent system. Then F6's 1.7v bitch slap debacle put me off of f6. F10 and F20 were the BIOS revisions that bricked on me. Thank god for dual bios with physical switches; at the rate Gigabyte is going, they need it.

Late replay but I heard that you can just downgrade the same way you upgrade your bios so try that.

I have two Rx 580 8gb. It seems as if only one is working. I have two monitors, each plugged into an Rx 580 via DVI cable. The monitor isn't detected.. Is this a motherboard BIOS issue? orrr..

I wish I could have some of the BIOS features of that board in mine (which is a GA-Z170XP-SLI, not the greatest, but it was cheap enough ^^). Specifically, could I somehow edit a BIOS to include the fan control features of that board into mine?! That'd be great...

I’m getting BSOD constantly, like almost daily, and I can’t figure out why but they’re always 124 errors. It’s always related to hal.dll and pci.sys and of course ntoskrnl.exe

My gaming 7 wifi x470 freezes and stutters for a couple secs or so when navigating through the bios. This is a brand new setup and happened on the first ever bootup. Help!
@ivanstoltz56495 жыл бұрын
i found that if you press the delete button near entering the bios it causes weird glitches, if you spam the delete key like im used to with older motherboards try just pressing it once when the intro logo pops up, or use the fastboot app in windows to reboot into bios and relax till your'e in, if you still have the issue, you might have to update the bios
