@@cclaussen it is funny BUT thats how you get them interested since they see their people as part of their flock. Flocks eat together. I introduced new foods (or stuff she hasn't tried in a long time) to my parrotlet this way. I've had her since hatch and co parented her as a hick so we r both really closely bonded. She trusts me when I eat in front of her and then say “wanna try some?” and offer it to get she is brave enough to try it! My NOT tame parrots are fearful of trying to new foods because they don't have thatctrist with me that she has.

@@Alararar try lactose free cheese or vegan cheese ( my guys like a very small portion of that). I think they seem to know when I am getting anything dairy out of the fridge ( I’m lactose intolerant but my spouse isn’t & he loves cheeses) so life is constantly putting the brakes on stealing from assorted dinner plates.

My quaker parrot Bruno is crazy about cheese and butter, I have to be careful when preparing food for myself because he is able to grab entire bread slice with stuff on it and fly away with it. He also loves lyophilized fruit and veggies as a snack, but honestly he is slightly weird, he loves vegetables way more than his food and usually it is all the way around with parrots.

Tiny amounts of cheese and yogurt are both generally okay treats for lactose intolerant animals (and people), because the bacterial cultures essentially pre-digest the lactose so it's easier to manage. Also, loving the editing in this video :p

There is an African Grey in Kallethea,Athens, Greece in a Pet supermarket. I wanted to buy him sooooooo badly! I had recently finished Alex and Me by Irene M Pepperberg and I felt so sorry for the alert, little bird alone in a little cage. I also saw an African grey in a smaller, dirtier cage in Chios. The owner SAID he lives in a bigger cage in her house. I hope so. He didn't look even remotely stimulated. People should not be able to buy these without an interview to prove they know what they are getting into.

This is actually SOOOO helpful!! I have a picky rescued 36yr old Grey 9who knows what he spent most of his life on) and a somewhat picky Conure. The Conure's breeder pretty much only fed seed/nut mix and fresh fruit, so it's been VERY difficult to get them to eat anything decent!

I'd be intrigued to see a list like this for popular homemade food/snack recipes if you're up for that in the future. I fondly remember making "bird bread" with my mom, it was basically a sort of bready sheet cake with peanutbutter mixed into the batter, plus corn, broccoli, and probably some other stuff i'm forgetting, but it's basically totally customizable to your birds' tastes. Then just cut them a lil piece for a treat! iirc there's no added sugar or anything like that outside the peanutbutter, but I haven't had the exact recipe in decades now.

God i made the mistake of giving my grey Zupreem and it gave her a crop infection from the high sugars not digesting, and rotting in her crop. It sounds like it hasn't changed at all. Gross. A few years ago I had a live stream for my budgies and i decided to try millet. Now, millet is a common grain for humans in some parts of the world, so i knew it would be at least all right, but it was REALLY good and all i did was boil it until soft. Tori's giggle fit after Dalton chomped into the seed stick like a corn dog is probably the most first time I've seen her not be deadpan. "i have not met a bird that doesn't like (Nutraberries)" my grey has never liked them
