Love your channel. Have a bird of paradise outdoors. Looks good but moves forward and can't seem to straighten it. Any recommendations?
@Mycityplants2 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! Seems that your Bird of paradise plant might be leaning toward the light... If your plant is not in the ground, you may either repot it and position it upright during the repotting process or turn the plant 360 degrees to make a full rotation, allowing it to straighten over time. Once the plant is upright, remember to rotate it frequently to prevent leaning. You may also support the stems by using stakes to keep them upright *** here is our video and article about how to use stakes: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-straighten-bird-of-paradise-plant/ Green Cheers!

If you're new to the world of Bird of Paradise plants, what's one thing you're excited to learn or try after watching this video?
@alleznancy Жыл бұрын
Hello ; I hope you're doing well and I like your videos , particularly your plant care tips, I should mention that I'm relatively new to caring for Strelitzia Nicolai. I recently acquired a Strelitzia Nicolai, and unfortunately, due to my initial placement in direct sunlight, some of the leaves have developed sunburn and turned brown. However, my main concern is a leaf on an exceptionally tall stalk (approximately 2 meters) that has also turned brown. I'm unsure about where to make the cut to encourage new leaf growth. Should I cut it at the base, or if I trim it about 2 cm below the brown part, will a new leaf form there? Could you please provide some guidance on the best way to trim a brown leaf on a long stalk without compromising the plant's overall health? I want to ensure that I do this correctly to promote new growth. Your expertise would be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to any advice or tips you can share. Thank you in advance for considering my request.

Hi there,love the videos. I have bird of paradise and I live in Arizona (desert) we had a rare frost few weeks ago. My plant was lush and now has yellow and brown leaves. I think it’s from the frost and not under or over watering. I now know how to judge watering thanks to you. Do the leaves come bk or would you trim? Highly doubtful we have another frost with temps hitting 70° this weekend.
@Mycityplants9 ай бұрын
Hi! Sorry your Bird Of Paradise is not a happy camper at the moment. Leaves that are damaged by the frost or yellowing/browning for any other reason, do not come back :( If the most part of a leaf is damaged, remove that leaf. Spring is in the air and your Bird Of Paradise plant will shoot out many new leaves soon! Green Cheers & Thank you for watching!

I just got a bird of paradise plant and had it in a spot in my living room that doesn’t get direct sunlight, but my living room gets pretty good natural lighting overall. It was there for a few days and one day I decided to move it closer to the window where the light is much stronger. I wasn’t keeping an eye on it and by evening, the stem on the largest new leaf completely bent over. I’ve moved it back to its original spot and propped the bent leaf against the wall for a couple days now, but it doesn’t seem to be getting stronger to stabilize itself. Can anyone tell me what went wrong?!
@MycityplantsАй бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! It sounds like your Bird of Paradise plant experienced some stress due to the sudden change in lighting conditions. Here are a few thoughts on what might have happened: - Light Shock: Moving the plant from a moderately lit area to a much brighter spot can cause light shock. The plant may have struggled to adjust to the increased light intensity, leading to stress in the new growth. - Leaf Structure: The new leaf may not have developed enough strength to support itself, especially if it was elongated while reaching for light. - Watering and Nutrients: Ensure that the plant is adequately watered but not overwatered. Stress from improper watering can also affect leaf health. If the plant wasn't getting enough water or nutrients, the new growth might have been more susceptible to bending. To help the plant recover: - Keep it in a spot with bright, indirect light until it stabilizes. - Consider gently supporting the bent leaf with a stake or tying it loosely to help it regain strength. - Monitor the watering routine to ensure it’s receiving the right amount of moisture. - If the leaf doesn’t recover, it may be best to prune it back to encourage new, healthier growth. With time and proper care, your Bird of Paradise should bounce back! Green Cheers!

Hi I want to know if you have ever came across a Root rot problem with a bird of paradise plant if then what are the steps to take care ?
@Mycityplants6 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! Overwatering is #1 issue for all type of plants and Bird of Paradise plant is not an exception. Here is my video about How To Save an overwatered plant: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-save-an-overwatered-plant/ Also, I would recommend using the Soil Moisture meter www.amazon.com/dp/B014MJ8J2U?tag=mycityplants-20 for establishing a proper watering frequency for your plant. Here is my video about How To Use this tool: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-use-soil-moisture-meter/ Bird of Paradise plant's soils should be tested once every 7-10 days and watered when the meter reading is in the 4-5 moisture zone. Hope this helps and your plant will recover and thrive! Green Cheers!

You cut the old inside plastic luchuza pot. Do they sell the inside separate? If you want to re-use the outside pot?
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, Lechuza does not sell inserts separately :( That is why it is important to repot Bird of paradise plants before they get too root-bound to save the pot and re-use it. BOP needs to be reported once every 2 years or so. 🌱
@patriciahernandez591710 ай бұрын
What if you can’t Lyft the planter to discard the excess of water from the saucer. Or if the plant doesn’t have any saucer at all ?
@Mycityplants10 ай бұрын
Hi again! You can remove the water from the saucer with Baster (amzn.to/3tPUb0g) or paper towels. If the plant is dropped into the decorative pot (no drainage hole) and you can lift it/take it out, the you can also use Baster or paper towels to remove water. If the pot has no drainage hole and the plant is potted, there is nothing can be done. Green Cheers & Thank you for watching!

I have a beautiful bird of paradise plant that keeps growing but unfortunately it's smothered with gnats. It's very difficult to get rid of them even though I've changed everything
@Mycityplants5 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching. Sorry your Bird Of Paradise is under the attack of gnats. The main reason why they are coming back after you have changed the soil is that you most likely overwatering your plant still. Also, the proper light exposure and good air circulation is very important for the soil to dry faster! Please watch my videos about - How to save an overwatered plant mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-save-an-overwatered-plant/ - How to get rid of gnats mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-get-rid-of-gnats-in-plants/ I strongly recommend using the Soil Moisture Meter amzn.to/3xHcXZr to establish a proper watering frequency. Here is my post + video about How to use this tool: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-use-soil-moisture-meter/ ** When to water plants chart is provided in this post. Wishing you lots of Green Luck!

How difficult is it really to care for this plant? Is it sensitive to being moved around?
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
In my experience - the bird of paradise is very easy to care for. Important to remember that this plant grows fast and needs regular repotting (once every 2 years or so) + good light! I have moved my plant between spots and it adapts to its new location easily. 🌱
