I went to clean off bird poop from my Tesla - because sh$t happens. :) After cleaning the poop off, I found they left stains or etching on the paint. Everything I did to remove them didn't work. After some searching on the internet, I found a solution that makes no sense but it totally works.

Being a bald man, I don’t have a hair dryer, so I bought one today just to try this. I was convinced I’d wasted my money. But, it worked! Exactly as is shown here! Removed about 8 etchings from my blue MX. Thank you so much.

Just wanted to drop a comment and tell you thank you so much for this video, it saved me! We have a brand new M3LR, and with less than 150 miles on the clock a bird pooped right in the middle of the hood. It’s like they know. . . I tried other various methods, and the etching would not come off. I was watching videos on polishers and polishing compounds, which i figured would have to be my next step, although drastic and I was pretty nervous about doing it, for fear of messing something else up. I was just about to say to heck with it, I will just live with the etch, but then found a similar video that talked about using heat to remove. After watching that video, I then searched for others. Yours was the first to pop up, and i was happy to see that it was on a Tesla, which as you know are notorious for not great paint. I watched your video, and decided to give it a go. Grabbed my wifes hair dryer, ran an extension cord, and started slowly heating. At first it didnt look like it was working, but it turned out i was being too timid, had the hair dryer to far away and not heating enough. Moved it closer, and in the span of less than a minute, the etching started disappearing before my eyes! I stopped periodically to check it, and then applied more heat. All in alll, took me about 5 minutes of carefully heating and checking, and now the etching is GONE! Thank you for the video, and I am stealing my wifes hair dryer to include it in my car cleaning supplies going forward . . . ;-)

I too was reluctant to believe a hair dryer heat would remove nasty bird poop stains from my brand new Blazer. The stain was etched in and the size of a 50 cent coin. I heated the spot moving the dryer up and down and it removed some of the deep etch but not all of it. I didn’t want to overheat the spot. Then I took a mild 3M polish and while the spot was warm I applied the polish to the stain and like magic it buffed up the clear coat perfectly. Like new! Etched stain all gone. I had to look at the results 3 or 4 times to believe what I had done. It works! I’m thrilled! Thanks for the great awesome tip!

I had multiple HUGE bird bombings on my new Model Y today when my wife was shopping. By the time she got home, I just happened to see it when I went out to rinse the car and the big stain spots had already set in. I tried the hair dryer…no luck. Then all the other “do this” suggestions from KZbin which did not work. Then I borrowed my friend’s heat gun…and voila, stains are no more! So thanks for the pointing me in the right direction!

Interesting approach so thanks for sharing. I'm surprised just having the car in the hot sunlight doesn't do the same thing though. I thought that it's either of two things - some volatile component of the bird dropping is absorbing/adsorbing into the clearcoat and the heat is 'boiling' it out or the clearcoat surface has been 'micro-etched' and the heat is allowing the clearcoat to reflow and smooth out the surface again. I thought clearcoats were crosslinked (usually not able to reflow) but I haven't followed paint chemistries for some years. A good outcome though whatever the reason. Cheers

Well yes, and thank you. Hundreds of spots from one flockin' flock resolved. Body shop told me a 4 grand repaint was the only option. But there must be some conspiracy--detailers etc obviously must be aware of this-technique--and use it--but likely pretend they spent hours buffing your car. Actually I DID spend hours with the dryer myself, as these birds were particularly vindictive. But my car tipped me well

Hi, just did this on my model 3 (blue) and it worked, in that the white mark went, but I can still see a slight haze/dappling there. It’s barely perceptible though, and certainly not visible by anyone but me (my wife just rolled her eyes when I said I could still see something)! 😂 so I think it’ll probably do, certainly until I get around to getting the car polished at some point. Thanks for the tip.

Funny cause I came across this video searching for remedies to remove bird diarrhea. I keep my vehicle clean 98% of time , sleeping the other 2% . The stains are so noticeable and irritating to me that I was just about to buy $300 worth of buffing equipment & compounds to remove 3 spots on the hood that no one notices but me. 3am I’m outside with the wife’s blow dryer to my surprise this actually works . I think instead buying a DA polisher I’m going to Walmart purchase a nice hair dryer for my wife 😂. Thanks for the bird dropping hack

I get a stain from a bird poop today on my brand new Tesla Model Y (with ceramic coating on it), I'll give it a try with this method. If it works this would prove me that ceramic coating is fun to get water beading (easy to dry) but not useful at all against bird poops as they sell it. I'll let you know. If it works you've probably change my mind about ceramic coating ;) Thanks for sharing this trick with us.

Didn't work at least with my hair dryer..for me got the surface to 83°C at least four times and then let it cool & repeat 2020 Tesla model 3 Ocean Blu Pearl .. I believe heating up n letting it cool several times is the preferred method ? which I did... so it would have been helpful if you had measured the surface temp while you were doing the job so we can see what the temperatures get up too... So what is the safe maximum temperature the panels clear coat ?

These are pro solutions and good ones at that...... however it was a long weekend, a massive amount of Bird crap landed on my car and I did not want to let it sit for days or a week feeling it may do further damage. I had a white car. (Not sure what the outcome would be for a dark paint car?). The chunky part of the poop I got off. Not issue there. What was left was light green stains literally that looking like ink or something. I tried soap and water and a sponge. No change. I tried Turtle wax and some buffing. Did not help at all. I tried Baking soda and water. Did not do anything. I tried Baking soda and vinegar. Nothing. I tried Goo B Gone. No change... no effect. NOTE I chose a small bird poo stain for all these down near the side front fender in the most inconspicuous spot to test all these. In case any of them left some damage or abrasive marks in the paint. I recommend the same. If the situation allows for that. Finally what worked? A mixture paste of Oxy Clean Powder mixed plain hot water. Not so hot that it burns your fingers. I mixed it to a wet version of a paste. I tried applying and rubbing the stains using make Up Remover pads (those white round ones).... I tried a cloth.... it seemed the best way to do it was using my plain old fingers. I would apply a dollop and simply firm but a gentle firm.... rub it with my thumb or fingertips around and over each poo splatter. The more you kept rubbing the fainter and fainter the stain got. It does take some elbow grease and time. It took me around 45 to 55 minutes to do around 35 - 40 splatters ranging from the size of a dime to the size of a pea. But they all came out. Every now and then I would mist the whole area with water. You do not want the paste dry or chunky.... nor too thin.... a little wetter than toothpaste consistency. After I rinsed and rubbed everything with a soft towel and you could see some of the areas where I rubbed with the oxyclean but I am sure a going over with a good car wax with hint of rubbing compound would even out the small few areas I could see a bit of a difference in shine. Would I recommend this for anyone with a prestige car or Hot rod or show car? maybe not? But your everyday homeowner with a run of the mill regular car, SUV or whatever should find this to do the job. Again it is not the work of a pro like this author here but it worked enough for my liking on our white Honda Accord. Hope this helps. Note get bird poop off a car as fast as possible. Every day or hour your leave it lets the high acid content in Birds poop permeate the clear coat and even into the paint if left long enough. Cheers

So.....I've tried this. No luck. Even with a pro heat gun. I believe this only works if the etch damage is fairly new. I've tried polishing and it works....but then a week later it reappears. If this method fails you'll likely need to sand it out.
