The main pilot talking sounds exactly like a pilot I used to fly with in the Navy (SAR) a lot of years ago. He was a really good helicopter pilot..... I wonder if it's him because he left the Navy to become a commercial pilot for Britanna/Thomson. That was 2002 so he'd certainly be a captain by now.

Bird strike. Normally, the engine won't surg or stall and the engine monitor won't show any weird data. However, sometimes the N1 vibration rating may reaches a high number and the N2 may stall. Nice video especially 3:50 Range Rover Voque safty car!!

Wow, you could see that bird go right into the intake at :17, and then see the engine sputtering flames just before he called "Mayday." I'm a bit surprised he opted to go on to another airport! (Many airports have considerable grass at the airport, a lure for birds.) Interesting, thank you for posting.

I'm quite well aware that aircraft could have flown WITHOUT that engine, I just wondered why he didn't return to the airport he had just taken off from instead of going on to another airport, with flames coming out like that! Perhaps he was HEAVY and preferred the next airport due to take-off/landing weight issues, I don't know what his thinking was. OF COURSE at Vr he wouldn't abort, that's just common sense!

He didn’t land at a different airport. He took off from Manchester and landed at Manchester. He was offered the alternative of Liverpool but declined.
