That UAL captain is a stud. Dude was on point every step of the way, even double checked runway and changed to 4R for the extra length. Really switched on.

The pilot was on it - knew what they wanted and double checked. Decided on the longer runway and confirmed it. Had their info on hand with SoB and fuel. Even told tower they would clear the runway without being asked.

I still don't understand why information cannot be passed from one controller to another, Granted, in this case it was not a big deal, but in a high workload situation, repeating souls and fuel onboard multiple times would be very annoying to me. I wish one time a pilot would say, "Just like I told the last guy and the guy before that, yes we are declaring an emergency, we still have 140 souls and 23,000 lbs or 3.5 hours of fuel! And yes we still want runway 4R and yes we still want emergency equipment standing by."

In this case it’s because the EWR area controllers were moved from Long Island to Philadelphia this summer (note the “contact Philly approach 119.2”). When everyone was in the same building this was an easy shout across the room. Now it requires a call on the landline which takes time and requires the other controller to answer. Now it’s just quicker to ask the pilot the same question again.

There are several. Mallard ducks are very common around here. The mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), a dabbling duck, is widespread in distribution and its range encompasses both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. The birds in the northern parts of the breeding range exhibit migratory behavior. For example, birds inhabiting northern ranges of North America migrate south to Mexico or further south to Central America as well as the Caribbean. Mallards have been observed to fly as high as 6,400 meters (21,000 feet)
