We love your work man. For me I detect just a shade of Ingmar Bergman-esque fatalism in your (or your character’s) approach to fishing with your mates that all of us feel but few acknowledge. The beauty of a grayling’s dorsal against the bleak reality that your pursuits have dire stakes as far as ego and family commitments go. We can all relate I’m sure.

Lovely video Rolf! I love how you can combine fishing with birding and your other lovely nature shots in your videos. Fishing is also largely about knowing and enjoying your environment, not necessarily the fish. Great to see you out with your kids, on your channel you might not always catch the most impressive fish, but you show the realistic life of combining fishing with being a father in a day to day life. Where time is limited and there is other important stuff to attend.

Poured myself an amber ale and put in a snus to watch this treat and heck it delivered! I really admire your ambition to learn more, it's something I feel I should do also. It helps to have little kids who relentlessly ask you about everything when you're out in nature. Sädesärlan is a favourite of mine, the way the move their tail up and down as the move around. Also, you're right to blame to pike for being lousy hunters :P

Another masterpiece! Your films come closer to the experience I try to have than any others. USA pike tend to slash prey before eating it. Try a strip set to avoid pulling the fly away ( and tangling in the trees behind you). Pura Vida

Oh I love your films. I have been birdwatching longer than flynfishing. I used to be very serious when I lived in South Africa. Even did bird banding and kept lots of lists. Now in New Zealand I just enjoy it alongside fly fishing. It's just great to be aware of what is around you. My kids are starting to enjoy it too especially lists. We often make lists while driving to school. See how many we can get. Fly fishing and birding goes well together. Not sure what camera you have but the Sigma 150-600 for emount, the new one, works great for filming birds with my A6700. Tight lines and look forward to the next one. Btw did you do birding while you were in South Africa? So many species to see there!

I follow your work since the videos from Jazz and Fly Fishing. Love your storytelling and videos. Regarding the pikes you didn't hook I believe it was because your were trout setting them. Give it a second after the strike and strip set it. Keep the videos coming ;)

As and expert in everything and an internet jackass- may I suggest: Open the hook point past parallel with the shank with pliers, sharpen the point often with a sharpening stone that is a part of your kit anytime you are fishing, and let the fish get a hold of the bug and turn its head- and then just lift the pole. Great film making regardless of genre.

I just started birding also. I don't know if it is available in Sweden, but the Merlin app from Cornell University has helped me immensely in id'ing birds. But, I am also very competitive about stupid things, so I'm trying to see and document all the birds...

Lovely video, stop trout setting when you fly fish for pike Rolf, just keep stripping until they’re hooked! I used to live in Val de Bievres in France, literally Beaver Valley. It sounds like a Californian porn film but really isn’t sadly.

you should probabbly set the hook on pike with the line, not the rod. Like, pull the line, "srtip set", rather than raising the rod to set the hook. You get stronger hooksets doing that.

You lost those fish because you trout set. Keep a tight line, wait till you feel the weight of the fish, then strip into him. Don't lift your rod. You're pulling it out of their mouth.
